i prefer trying to air on a proper quarter with a bit of vert on it.  on mini's you have to pull out too much to stop hanging up.

So, is that your target for tonight at Charlton?

to be quite honest, i'm not that fussed about trying to air at charlton anymore.  i didn't really want to ride mini's when i got back into riding as i wanted to ride something with a bit of vert.  charlton is just a bit of fun.

trev  wtf do you mean charlton is just for fun,  i think the only person that could say that is  Scott  M.    get a grip and ride ya bike some
Title: Re: How to do airs
Post by: Trev on June 27, 2007, 06:28 PM
i am riding some.  i'll be at charlton tonight.

but my point is, that when i got back into riding, the only thing i wanted to be able to do was airs.  it is harder to air on a mini than on a quarter pipe.  i've recently learnt peg stalls and feebles and have even done the volcano, but none of that stuff will give me the same buzz i'll get when i learn to air properly.

Post by: TwoBobRob on June 27, 2007, 06:37 PM
Trev,  I was known for kickturns and nowt else when I first rode.  I came back to riding wanting to be a vert rider.  Wanting to do airs. So I built a vert ramp and rode it. When that ended, I found another vert ramp and rode that. When I didnt go there I found another park with a vert ramp and I rode there.....

Do you see a pattern forming?

Buy yourself a fullface lid and get yourself to fooking Skaterham.   :knuppel2:

Unless you can find a vert 1/4 pipe somewhere thats 8ft high or higher, it's time to put your money where your mouth is on a vert ramp.

Once you're halfway decent on vert then you can call miniramp a bit of fun......   ;)     :angrysoapbox:

See you tonight.  :)

shouldn't all riding just be a bit of fun if you're not competing??

Bowls is a bit of fun.

Tiddlywinks is a bit of fun.

Picking peanuts out of poo is a bit of fun.

But if you are going to call Charlton a 'bit of fun', what does that make your sessions at Rom?  or your roadtrips to other parks?

The other night at Legacy you all had a twist session remember?  out of that wee 1/4 pipe at the end of the park.  You all got a good sweat on, you all crashed a few times and got up, and you pulled some really nice 360s.  You put the work in and got the reward.  In my book, thats the fun.

You'll seldom see me riding and not grinning through the session, it's a fun thing to do, but bloody hard work.

Perhaps I just thought you were being a little condescending y'know?  I call Rom my 'fun' session, but I still try hard when I'm there.  I'm just a bit allergic to concrete these days so I'm not likely to try owt big there...

I think what I'm trying to say is you will never, ever learn to air with 'a bit of fun' attitude.  We're too old, life is too short sadly.  :'(
Title: Re: How to do airs
Post by: Trev on June 27, 2007, 07:19 PM
all riding i do whether it be at charlton, rom, legacy or any other park is fun for me.  i don't compete anymore, so i don't have to practice for hours on end just to make sure i can pull my routine cleanly.  if i don't feel like riding, then i don't ride.  if it starts turning into a chore, then you can bet your bottom dollar that i will stop riding.  like you say, we're all getting old, so i would not waste time doing something in my spare time if i didn't enjoy it.

by the way, picking peanuts out of poo doesn't seem like fun to me...  ???

i don't care much for bowls or tiddlywinks either...
Title: Re: How to do airs
Post by: TwoBobRob on June 27, 2007, 07:32 PM
I think we might be misunderstanding each other.

Of course riding is fun you big oaf, thats the first and for some, only reason we do it.  I'm in love with it. And I agree completely, the minute it stops being fun I'm packing it in.  It's happened to me 3 times over the years.

But if you want to learn airs  (like you said)  then you are going to HAVE TO put some graft in.

trev you can learn to air the charlton ramp, the same as any vert ramp, just carve it more, its not that different

also we have a nice 7ft quarter in brighton with vert on it, for that up and down feeling  :)

trev mate i feel your pain. superfly paul spent about 2 hours solid trying to teach me to air the charlton ramp, and in the end i still couldnt do it. and he probably wanted to kill me. we agreed that i'd have to unlearn old skool up and down the ramp airs but i seem incapable of doing it.

anyway for dunmow location check here http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=16056.msg171217#msg171217 (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=16056.msg171217#msg171217)

BUT

the skatepark seems to have been rebuilt and the quarter is gone!

Not me, the foot is definitely not right (although it is the right one) hence the lack of riding on Wednesday night.
