As you may know Stephen Murray the English rider was badly hurt and has broke his back, there is a fund started to raise cash for his medical bills.
Uncle Buck from Hayes and BMXTALK has asked the OS racers if we would like to attend the British championships in August. No prizes (Maybe) definitely no points, but a great day for a very needy cause. We need to act fast and make sure a many as possible will be going, time for everyone, not just the OSSS riders to get the bikes ready.
There is also going to be an auction of Old school memorabilia and parts, including the very first prototype MRD frame.
Please put your names down if you want to race the Brits in the OS class, and help Stephen.
We will only take 40 riders now, so only 1 reserve place left. Entry list will be kept open for as long as possible, but dont leave it too late.

The Brits will be HUGE and a real family affair so we can make a weekend of it (loadsa beer n misbehavin ::)) :LolLolLolLol:
Also it's a great way to raise funds for Steve who is a top bloke, if he was in our position he'd do it for us :daumenhoch:
I'm off to do some sprints in prep for our biggest race yet :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

-
Somehow I just know that Matt & James will want to go to Burnham and that being there I'll have to join you guys for a trundle around. So, count me in for last place but the knowledge that my entry fee will be going to just a cause will make it all worthwhile. Humps

wheres burnham on sea for the benefit of us northerners?
-
wheres burnham on sea for the benefit of us northerners?
Im afraid its at the bottom of the UK, M5 motorway passes close by, just underneath Wales. Remember its over two days so you could easily camp and split the travel over two days :daumenhoch:
-
Map here http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/maps.shtml
-
Not more talk of bmx campness gonna have to get myself a pink bike :-*..........................just like Gary72 :-[
-
Nothing wrong with a bit of pink ;)
-
As long as it isn't a bit of brown we'll be ok. :LolLolLolLol:

Yeah stick jason harvey down coz you know he never f**kin comes on here :P
-
Ok all names now added, I spoke to Uncle Buck earlier, race entrance fees are being waived by the BCF but we will pay £20 to race this money will go directly to the fund :daumenhoch:
-
Is it OS racing over the 2 days?
-
We dont know yet!!! The invite is for the two days, just waiting to see if we will be racing both days :daumenhoch:
-
Hey guys,
I have asked the powers to be at British Cycling and Burnham BMX Club if it will be ok out of politeness, but sure they wont have any probs as its more added to the party over the weekend of the brits.
At the moment it will be just practice sat and racing sun, but there is talk of a nat race being added to the mon, but will have to keep you posted on that one.
As Webdawg says its a great place for the family, by the sea and all that and loads of us go for the week or a few days before, loads of good campsites up at Brean and cheap B&b's close by..
We are working right now on setting up an ebay shop to sell off all the donated goods and OS gear and will keep you posted when that goes live, all proceeds to Stephan Murray Fund..
-
Thanx for clarifying Scott, i'll get the Ratster to put a post up in OS on Talk too as i know there's loadsa peeps on there that would probably be up for it.
The more the merrier :daumenhoch:
-
Go on put me down , I must be insane :idiot2: :idiot2:Racing at the nationals !! but what the hell :)I shall be on the rarther small but light Race Inc , Most of you girls and boys have seen me racing the old lady @ Bourmouth 04 and Braintree this year.
Regards Kevin Hotplate.
Ps could we see Monkey biscuits do his first race. :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:
-
It's taking shape nicely. 6 more riders and there will be 4 full gates of 8.
-
put me down for the o/s race as i'm gonna be there anyhow as my 3 boys are doing the brits already
:4_17_5: Chris Beagley
-
IM UP FOR THAT, PUT MY NAME DOWN. :daumenhoch:
-
Blimey have you seen a couple of the names in the list on Page 1. Tim March & Mike Pardon!! Oh well, there's always 3rd place!! Must be a few more to add to the list yet. Humps
-
Looks like I'll be seeing a lot of Mike Pardon's backside next season in 40+ Cruiser and OS then!
And it'll be an honour to line-up on the gate with a legend like MRD. I'm sure that even with his worn out body he will still kick our arses!
This OS Brits race sounds like it's gonna be a lot of fun. I might even sack off 30-39 cruiser at the Brits and just do this instead.
-

-
ok, now I'm interested in racing, for fun. I haven't raced before, EVER. I'm 35, fat and have a raleigh burner.
is it dangerous? ie can I get round the track with having to do mental jumps?
I have a snow boarding lid, might be able to borrow a full face lid and I have some gloves.
someones gotta come last right?
I'll check with the wife and make sure we ain't got anything on, she might like a couple of days by the sea side.
put me down provisonaly. Joe Towey, plate 71.
-
someones gotta come last right?
Hey buddy there's a hierachy on here for being last so don't you try muscling in on my action!! ;) I'm very much older than you, definitely overweight but you've got me on the Burner thing so we'll just have to thrash it out at the back of the field and may the best man win!! Definitely get yourself a fullface for Burnham cos it's a hard surface if my memory serves me well but better still stay on the bike and keep well away from stray elbows!! You'll have the time of your life and even better for knowing that your entry fee will be going to a good cause. We need to rally round for Stephen Murray's Fund as he'll have some tough times ahead. Look forward to seeing you for a wobble around. Humps
-
I'm i the process of trying to get Craig Schofield to come as well. I know a man who know's him kind of thing so fingers crossed. He's a top bloke though so hopefully he'll be on the list quite soon.
-
The question has been asked.... :daumenhoch:
If Craig is free I know he will do his best to attend, he has made it to the Burner Bash for the past two years and has always been a gent... :coolsmiley:
Dave Hall (Beard)
-
Just heard from Craig and he is definitely up for coming along, but will CONFIRM next week. 8)
Hope thats okay... :)
-
Of course that's OK and hopefully he'll gather together the Braintree Posse and get Sid Salisbury and Jamie Vince along too. Tony Slater will already be there chasing the 40+ cruiser title and maybe he can be persuaded onto an OS ride too. That would be awesome!! Humps
-

Don't worry about having never raced before. Just take things at your own pace and have as much fun as possible.
This race is all about taking part (and having fun on old bikes), not about who comes where. And it's for a very good cause.
-
I'd really like to come. Can I get a lift off anyone? I'm near Wateringbury, Maidstone, Kent. I'll share petrol costs :)
I can't jump, can't pedal fast and I look awful but hey, I'll go the way :)
-
i have got to back out early as im having my other hip replaced a week earlier than the race
so not sure if i will be upto it .
but i will pay the money for someone else to enter the race for me .dan
-
Dan, Im sorry your gonna miss it, I hope the op goes smooth and you can come and watch :daumenhoch:
-
i will do me best,no driving for 4/6 weeks so will see if my mrs will drive me over.
gutted
-
Dan, I think we are gonna hire a bus, so if she can get you to London, I will take you down to Burnham :daumenhoch:

sadly mrs JT71 has said I'm not going to Burnham as we have a wedding to attend.
which i'd rather not attend, but since we've had like a years notice it'd be rude not to.
how much is the entry fee? I could donate my fee to the cause anyway, and what about prizes?
I can send a pair of 1/2" thread black widow pedals towards the prizes if that's any good.
can who ever is arranging pm me please.
kind regards Joe
-
No probs Joe, I will find out where to donate and I will post it up later tonight. Cheers Tony
-
iam deffo up for it. even if i have to ride me burner. please put my name down ;)
-
Ill be there with John Stockwell.
Hope its ok to ride my 1983 Floval Flyer (its the one I won the Brits on it 1988 :P).
I havent got a 20" either, unless my alloy Torker with 1 1/8" steerer counts as Old Skool ?
-
Because the race is such a one off and we are raising money for a really important cause there shouldnt be a problem :daumenhoch:

Andre' Eames.
Matt
-
I see Martin Parker has dropped out (BADBMX thread) and I question whether Shane 82 is still game as I hear he's talking of selling his bike(s); confirmation required Shane or Mark. Any more dropouts?? Humps
-
Ive just left Shane and he said he was still up for mk and the brits :daumenhoch:
-
Gutted Martin dropped out, That does leave two reserve places left, lmk asap if you fancy it. Dont be shy, this is a one off chance to help Stephen Murray and to race at the British Championship... :daumenhoch:
-
Lets fill these spaces asap boys :daumenhoch:
-
In the event that we get a sudden flurry of real Old School riders putting their names forward I'm happy to drop to a reserve place, or even out altogether, if a BMX legend wants to be on the gate. I will be at Burnham anyway to watch Matt rolling round on his cruiser doing the big jumps in 16-29 and James giving his all in Expert 14 and maybe in Cruiser 13-15. I'll still put my money in the pot for the cause anyway. Humps
-
Al, for what you do for the old school scene, I would rather you did start mate, you deserve it more than most of us. If there is a few more entries then I will open the 6th moto. :daumenhoch:

Registeration Saturday, racing Sunday. The registeration and racing are subject to change, so please book both days to be there :daumenhoch:
-
Ive put my name down to race .... Like humps, I be there anyway with my boy who will be racing..
I was going to bring my " 1979 " Decoster Mongoose ::) ::) Its got a coaster brake :-\ But my man worry is the Motomag cast wheels, with a 13 stone old man bouncing down on them !!
Dont suppose , for a minute I am even going to get the wheels of the ground , but dont want to end up in a pile of swarf !
Do you reckon they will be OK, for agentle roll round ???
-
of course more the merrier,pm ratty
you cant get much old school than a decoster
and specially with pedal back brake and motomags 8)
-
pretty sure we have some spaces, like Steve says PM Ratty, he'll sort ya :daumenhoch:
Look forward to meetin ya there
Nikki
-
It would be great to see the Goose on the gate, I wish we didnt take it so serious sometimes and got some of our shiney stuff out, but hey we like to race the old stuff, just doesnt stay shiney for long.
As for the mags, they will be fine, perhaps add a normal brake for the day if you can, either way you will love it :daumenhoch:
-
Cool Al, You're in :daumenhoch:
-
i would like to go to watch, any info on tickets etc?
-
I dont think there is an admission charge, theres usually a car park charge and programs at regionals are usually about £2, so expect a fiver at the Brits.

Just had a panic and had to check the first page to make sure i was registered :uglystupid2:
Done a bit of training tonight, went for some sprints and uphill riding on the new school park bike running 30-11 gearing, stopped and had a redbull and ice pole.
Got some strange looks riding with an ice pole in my mouth just like when i was 10. Thirtysomething on a BMX with an icepole and a blue tonge. :idiot2:
-
can you sling Josh back in tone, i'll cancel him from he 7's with the south committee in a min

I am gonna have to pull out of the Brits. Hope its not too late for someone else to take my place. Have a good weekend guys and gals.

sorry Ratty, iam out of action after a crash at the Nationals. Will be there from Saturday morning though
cheers Mike
-
Im Sorry to hear that Mike, Hope you mend quickly mate.
Be good to see you Saturday, If you can still sign the plates we are doing for Muzza that would be great :daumenhoch:
-
Yeah ratty it will be a pleasure to sign them. I will get Alan to bring a bike and ride that would be a good sight..

-
If Alans coming down anyway, ask him if I can put his name in your place Mike, even if he just rolls round with Tim :daumenhoch:

Tony, there's an e-mail from Phil Townsend winging it's way to you regarding the riders list for the weekend. Humps
-
its nearly here boyz :daumenhoch:who's going there friday
-
I have been here since this morning, getting that gate wired >:D Its not as scarey as daggers :daumenhoch:
-
you bleeding liar.....i wouldn't put it past you :LolLolLolLol:you'll need the practice ratman :4_17_5:
-
OK, now the post-mortem. Loads of names were down to race and I've confessed my reason for not actually doing the deed but I was at least there and paid my dues, just too s**t-scared after practice!! But what excuses from the others who said they were going?? Go for it guys. Humps
PS: Non-attendance fine is £50 to the Stephen Murray Fund I reckon.
-
It was a shame that we only managed half the names on the list.. Tbh, the track was a scarey mo fo which could account for a few drop outs, I had messages from fiolas lovechild, Keith Wilson, Tim March and Mike Pardon, all of whom had good reasons for not racing. I wouldnt beat anyone up for not attending as they missed a fantastic weekend of BMX, Perhaps next year we can have a massive turnout of OS.. :daumenhoch:
-
I've heard the rumblings of Old School classes being run at Nationals next year.
This could be about to go big time. :daumenhoch:
-
Still only rumours at the moment Zipps.... But watch this space :daumenhoch:
