in your opinion what was your best bike set up
what worked with what and what didnt come up to scratch.
what snapped easy ,and what was bullet proof.

My mostest best set up (even though it looked a piece of sh*t) was
in about '93
Skyway TA frame painted ghastly British Leyland Beige
S&M pitchforks (unbreakable!)
Wilkerson airlines upside down stem (good stem but never wanted to come out again!)
Haro Kneesavers (after my Peregrine Q bars snapped and nearly killed me by impaling themselves in my chest!)
Pale blue Jive handles grips (they worked best when they were just about to wear through to the bars)
Generic £4.99 headset which was always 'hand tight'
GT Power series 3pc chromo cranks (they were bullet proof and never ever came loose)
Redline 42t Flight ring (that wasn't too keen on disasters on the mini ramp!)
Blue 9/16 Shimano DXs (they are still going strong)
Shocking pink Hutch chain (snapped more than any other chain i've ever owned!)
Peregrine Superpro 48's (what can I say about these....they went and went until they started going rusty!!!)
Black Tioga Comp Sts or ACS RL Edges (with 2 tyres on the rear and 100psi)
Odyyssey RX-5 lever (great little one finger lever with potts mod locking button)
Odyyssey Pitbull rear brake (with a bit of attention these work incredibly well)
Superlong generic brake cable (with POP Swatch strap as a cable holder)
Haro Double bolt seatclamp (a design classic)
Bully seatpost (it held my seat on and didnt bend)
Skyway Hotseat (went through a few of these until I realised that it was just a £5.00 Velo kids seat so I bought them instead!)
Big 'Defunct' sticker on the down tube and a 'Sheep' sticker onr the bars
Man, I loved that bike......it was always at the point of falling apart but it was fantastic to ride on mini ramp or street. I had to have the toptube welded a couple of times and was forever unbending the dropouts but it didn't matter
Oh, and it was an '04/84 model!

from 89 to 91 i rode a gt agressor. strange beast, not very strong ended up with bent forks and very bent drop outs. couldn't air it to save my life. i don't know why i bought it, think i was impressed with bashguards at the time. parts wise it had some stuff that i really liked.. super pros, old 2 piece gt performer bars and jive handles

Here's my early 90s ride. Much the same as other bikes on this thread, and loads of bikes at the time.
Loads of chain protection, 2 tyes on each wheel, 80s cranks and pedals, Knee savers, pitbull and super pros.
Im looking to rebuild this bike quite soon. I just gotta clean up all the re-welds that the frame ended up having.

It was a little bit of a fight. I did it for 2 reasons:
1) Most tyres being really crap, esp on the side walls. Any peg grinds and you would go through them in no time. You could also use a tyre with holes in it without the tube popping through (how cheap does that sound?)
2) It meant you could hang an air without puncturing the tube and killing the rim every time
The problem was that you couldnt get any pressure between the two tyres and they ran like a soggy sponge! It was best to use a smooth tyre on the inside, and sometimes cut off the bead first.
NB: Funny story.
A few weeks ago I took apart an old bike that has been sat for about 12 years. It had araya aero rims on it so its usually easy to take the tyres off (no levers needed). I did the front, no probs but when I went to do the rear it was a bit of a struggle. It turned out there were 2 tyres on it. The best thing was, the inner tyre was a blue comp 4, pretty much unused! I need a blue comp 3 for a bike Im building, and that is close enough!

i ended up doing that when i tried it! it felt like heavy and sloppy to ride to me so i stuck to popping primo v's with too much pressure! that shit used to make my ears ring like!
did anyone ever use the old "stuff the tyre with grass trick" to get home? :LolLolLolLol:

redline flights (left arm 177mm, right arm a re-welded 180mm, right arm 177mm flight thrown over shrewsbury spine in disgust when i broke in half when i popped out onto the platform)

(rain man now stops reciting the parts he had on his bike 13 years ago)

I used to run a worn GT freestyle tyre in mine, They were always a barsteward to get on the rim but I never found them sloppy when pumped up to 100psi. In fact they were rock hard and ace for doing lip tricks etc.
They were especially impressive when they decided to blow up in style occasionally!
