i have been going through my mid school bikes and stuck on the dirt bros
do i leave it or just totally refresh it ,but only identical to it is now.
tyres are kinda shot so i have got to do a little to get it to a ridable safe condition.
your thoughts please.dan
-
Make it ridable, no more! Just take yourself back to the 90s, and pretend its your rider
-
Phew! I thought you were going to break out the TA stickers for a minute!
I think it'd look great with a spruce-up, some new tyres etc. :daumenhoch:
-
.....and they are a fantastic ride! :daumenhoch:
-
im kinda thinking the same, just was not sure of how far to go .
spruce up then that will do me .
-
New tyres, new cables, true wheels, clean, regrease, dial brakes, all i would do.
-
Yep, what Laz said with the addition of fresh grips.
-

that dirt bros is a slice of bmx history :daumenhoch:
theres an o/s survivor on your site i keep going back to dan, it just looks so right,
-
I would say get rid of the gyro and just have a rear, straight cable.
You also might wanna change the chainring to a disk n ring with a sprocket pocket (pref the early white one). Or, I have got a chainring that might be better than that oddy one. I'll take a pic for ya.
-
Make it rideable
Then
Buy a lumberjack shirt and some Ghetto Wear cargo shorts and hit the streets with it!
-
youve got a lot of stuff to be getting on with dan, give it a clean, and think about it later.
-
where is the pic Dan?
:) DINGO :)
-
i will find one
-

-
yes tappered forks come pretty standard i think.
i do fancy 3 piece cranks but aint messing with it.
-
the 1pc suits it well!!
if i had a TA frame i'd ride it
-
its an XL so even better ;)
-
sweet

Dan, I'll post you the chainring if you want. Give you some time to play with it. Its a nice ring, but you really want a sprocket pocket on there. The early white one was just cut out of a sheet of plastic, not moulding at all. Maybe you could make one (or a few?). I THINK i might know someone who has one you could copy from.
The reason people used a 1pc was because the chainring "bolted" on to the spindle with the bearing race. On a 3pc, the chainring is just held in place with the crank arm (and the bolt to stop it spinning). If you were doing sprocket pocket grinds with a 3pc the whole chainring sometimes folded over, esp if it was a crappy ring. A 1pc holds the ring in place much better and makes it less lightly to fold.
-
sounds a plan mr leech ,i will get a few guards made if i can copy one .
-
I made one myself but with 4 fixings instead of 5. This was so I could bolt it to a flight ring as that was one of the few chainrings with a 19mm hole in it. The top hat washer made the chainring more lightly to fold over. I used a white plastic chopping board but Im sure you can get a sheet of white plastic that will be better.
I'll lend you an old white Havok sprocket pocket to draw round ... but I want it back! :knuppel2:
-
nice one ,and no worries about returning it :) you no me.
-
Mmmmmmm
Sprocket Pockets...I love a good sprocket pocket...
Everyone get's their hands on your rings Alex.
-
I might as well just set a "help yourself" date and open the door to my shed.
It would save me some time and some postage!

-
everything always comes back around, even the front brake is coming back in with new riders
whats next ..
-
Oh, and Ive still got those pegs, the PA crank Flightring and DX pedals, the redneck stem and the wheel set. And probably the pad set too.
-
i thought so.
a 'cut' above the rest mate.
-
alex rough guess ,how thick is the nylon as i might order a sheet 4mm or thicker
-
I'd go for around 10mm Dan.
-
yes Laz, 10mm / half inch. I will measure it tonight
-
cool o i have got a local firm up the road ,might do some custom jobbies :daumenhoch:
-
i found a local chap that will cut some in any gauge.
doing a few plain in 1pc crank and will mess about with a few
something like this , but cut nice and more even just a paper mock up with plain disc

That's never gonna stand up to any grinds Dan. Paper cuts, yes. But grinds, no.

Thats the S&M sticker i need for my Gay Bars!! Mental Jimmy's! Are they still going?
-
You need one of those yellow ovals? Ive got one you can have, and maybe a Gaybar sticker too. PM a postal address and they are yours.
Mental Jimmys ended when S&M took over the whole unit they were sharing. Mcgoo moved on to bigger and better things ... and JP didnt.
-
Thanks Alex! Did McGoo start Snafu?
-
Yes, or he works for them or something. I think Snafu are actually owned by a rich woman from the far east.
-
....sounds about right. ::)

that's my old one!!! I won it at KOC in 91!! I was trying to remember what the black letraset letters said that I put on it but to no avail
-
ha ha, thats great. I thought the letters were just the HAVOK name but its even better that its something you put on there!
I got it off a bloke in manchester in about 94 who said he got it from someone in ireland. Oh if a sprocket pocket could talk!
