PERSONAL PREFERANCE ZED,I HATE WIDE BARS SO I LOB A BIT OF EACH END BUT ITS DOWN TO HOW COMFORTABLE YOU FEEL. :daumenhoch:
-
TNT Retro Bars are very nice, I've had a few sets in the past and they are really good. I use Crupi Pro Aluminium bars at the moment.
-
Bigger the better, can get yer elbows out further for berm warfare >:D :LolLolLolLol:  :daumenhoch:
-
cut or not ? berm warfare sounds good nik :2gunsfiring_v1: or comfort ? i cant decide  :-\
-
I was always told (can't remember who by) that your hands on the grips should be in line with your shoulders, i've always done this and took a lot of flak a few years back from the narrow bar/fashion riders now it turns out that wide bars are best! Fookin sheep!
-
i was told that when i raced road bikes, and it works, but i was once told by a ex bmx racer forgot his name , that he was told by his coach that wider is better , for all out elbow action :-\ , i could cut a inch off of both ends ? :-\

Whilst I'm not talking about the same thing, I'd thought I'd let you know that if I cut an inch off, I'd only have an inch left ! ;D

29" are wide bars m8. I've never used any that width. Mine are always around the 26"-27" range, which i've always found comfortable. I've tried bars around the same width as my shoulders and felt unsafe to be honest.
Taking an inch off each side won't hurt. Then you could always remove a bit at a time 'til you're happy.
Wider bars for a bit of elbow action can be cool. But b.i.t.d the thought was bars should be narrower to minimize the chance of tangling up and wiping out into the bends. ??? G.

They is wide mate! but you could always take off the grips and move the levers in a bit and see how it feels? if it feels better then lop an inch off..........that extra inch can make all the diference mate! ;)
Oh and get those weeds cut down!! :daumenhoch:
-
cheers guys ill hack a inch off , and rob that weed is a nightmare it grows and grows  and i hate gardening :2funny: OK im off to get the hacksaw out :daumenhoch:
-
Paul, the wider the bars, the more leverage you get, so as you pull on the bars you force the cranks down harder. But unless you are gonna do out and out racing then do whats comfy :daumenhoch:
-
Personally, I like MY handlebars wide !!! :LolLolLolLol:

they probably feel wder than they are due to they look wider than they are coz or the low crossbar 29"is standard for pro bars and i have no probs with that width at all, those bars are probably spot on that, Its just an illusion
-
if ya ever break that bike mr pickle giz a sout on them bars please :daumenhoch:
-
no worries mate.....think there could be a queue though mate :daumenhoch:
to be honest if i did break and sell the f+f the bars would be the one thing i keep as they're sweet to ride with!
-
its all an illusion :daumenhoch: i suppose its because im use to not so wide bars  i soon got the hang of them today , just 29 seems wide , ???

-
Right I'm not one to go by rule books as some of you know. ;) But just so I can beat Humps to it here's the British cycling take on handle bar width:
4.14.2.1 Maximum width of handlebars on both standard bicycles and cruisers shall be 74 cm (29”).
-
so i just get in there foxy :daumenhoch:
-
i like wide bars. i weld extra bits onto mine.
-
"26 inch wide for years :daumenhoch:
always have always will,
wide bars feel more stable to me but too wide and i start feeling like its affecting my pull-up to hop,
theres alot of sense in what papa standard said about the shoulder/bar width,
down to personal preference really,
there was a kid at the park the other day with un-cut lumberjacks plus bar ends to make them wider! the kid was proper small though :LolLolLolLol:
your picture isnt that far off zed!
speaking of which, wheres the pic you promised me dude?
i'm forced to wear beards that he made me till i get a new one :-[

i always cut my bars so i get a straight pull
and if you are getting a straight pull at 29" then you are one wide motherfooker
also if you can get a straight (or near to) pull, then you can also get the "x" :)
cutting the bars to suit your shoulder width makes sense, but do what feels comfortable
there are no set rules here. trends and fashions are for the fence watchers. the actual riders set up their bikes for riding

27" sounds sensible Paul , I've always ridden bars around 28" wide .
I bought my Supercross 24" off a guy who'd cut the S&M cruiser bars down to something stupid like 24.5-25" , thing was a friggn' deathtrap because the front end had a mind of it's own and constantly felt as though it was going to tuck under kinda . Another 40 sovs spent at Alans for new S&M's ;)
