Ah Frosty, that's my mate Ralph Tribe, (he's riding Baby Kong, the same night I went off the side of the ramp and into TLB's camera equipmet). Ralph was wicked on ramps way ahead of the times, he used to rip it up in the performance bowl at ROM. There's also a good pic in BAB at Livingstone skatepark, he was getting some big air in the main VERT bowl. He quit BMX early on to persue birds and beer I think. Nice find.

Hey Paul,
I'm trying to get his email address. For now I can tell you he used to live in Cheam, Surrey, he now lives in Kingston. He must be 37 years old. He was never sponsored cause he quit before the scene blew up, but was well worthy of sponsorship, very rad indeed.

Yeah mate, you well know him! He used to wear a plastic skate stylee lid with a peak and it extended down and covered the ears as well. Might have been a Jofa, can't quite remember.. I also remember him wearing red Oakley braces as well. Spent most of his time airing the performance.
The only Ralph I knew at the time..... ;D

I remember a magazine, someone wondered who this unknown guy was who'd been ripping up the ramps at a comp. 'Lost Tribe' was the header.

Rob, spot on, great memory. He had a dayglow green pro-tec (Only guy to wear that colour), Jofa face gurad and red oakley braces.

The reason I remember Ralph is because I used to get him and Dan Purcell mixed up when my mate used to show me old photos..

there were so many of us went off the side of BabyKong into Tim Leighton-B's camera's (or into Damon's mum's garage doors) at some point or another that I can't work out who you are but I would love to know...Damon? Tony? Steve? Fulla? Roy? Jason? - all absolute top A1 blokes one and all. Last I heard half of you landed up in Venice Beach LA - nice one - bit sunnier than here, right?
Who's still riding out there? - real names please - apart from Jason Lunn cos I know he is still awesome on both a bike and a skateboard - shit he was always annoyingly brilliant though wasn't he? yeah I'm old enough to admit how good he was now ha ha - as well as the Cheam mob who's still riding or back into it Dave Currey? Craig? Pikie... god forbid that nutter from Gillingham who could do 8 foot airs out of the Gillingham over-vert casule bowl... can'r remember his name quite but he could do one-arm press ups with two small adults on his back!! Charlie? Errol? - clearly Billie Stupple as he seems to run this site - well he was always an inspiration, right? - first time I ever went to Rom he was riding and it just totally blew me away - there was him and afew others like Danny and they were just years ahead of their time - I can remember it like it was yesterday... Those were some of the best times - not that I've had a bad life, in fact I have had, and still have, a bloody great life due in no small part to the life's-a-laugh-attitude I learned with the Cheam, Ashtead & Rom Crew - things like taking the piss so much out of the well 'ard Millwall fans' fag-inside-hand smoking technique on the way back from Rom after a match. Set me up for a good life - happily married, 3 great kids, living in Kingston, still a happy subversive (think industrial sabateur) ! ha ha
Although I left my old Curtis next to a skip in Cheam park 20 years ago (stupid as just the skyways on it would probably be worth a small fortune by now) I just bought a new Haro (which I have already nearly killed myself on) partly because my little boy, much to my happiness, is already rejecting crap conventional sports like Rugby in favour of a skateboard and a BMX - meaning he and his mates will be needing a lift to skateparks and stuff before long - oh what a shame ha ha.

How do I load pix up onto the site? I still have all those RAD's with me and the Ashtead Crew in APART FROM THE MEANWHILE MADDNESS MAG! AGGHH - can you believe it - I had forgotten about that shoot until jut now when you mentioned it . I think I could probably work it out fairly accurately through as it was after the first Baby-kong shot but before the GT test at Rom shoot - let me go did them old mags out
I can load them all up if only I knew how!!

I never met you Ralph. I started riding in the early 80s but I didnt really started meeting more people till after you had stopped. I met Damon a few times, not that he remembers! haha.
Those pics from meanwhile really stuck with me. The tables were so over flat and you all looked strangely relaxed. It was almost like the pics were fake, they were that good. I have got all the early BMX Action bikes. I will flick thro the them till I find it and I'll post them up.
(Oh, to up load pics you gotta open a photobucket account (or something similar) and paste in the link to the pic. There is a thread all about how to do it on here somewhere)

Ralph - I'm Rob Steele. I don't know if you'll remember me or not. I was the bloke who did rampstalls and kickturns all day long down in the reservoir....
The Gillingham lunatic would be Glyn Lewis. He pops up from time to time, but I've not seen him since the late 90s now. Pikey Paul Davis was riding through the 90s, but I've not seen him since either. Dave Curry is a member here and owns a bike, its just hard to get him out riding these days!
You may remember Danny Purcells riding buddy Pat Glavin? He's riding, been back on it about 4-5 years now. Chris Young is about, but hasn't made it to Rom yet. Thats all I can remember at the mo. S&M Alex is Alex Leech.
Oh yeah, Marco Lara turned up at Rom with his son back in the late 90s riding a fully tricked out PK Ripper. He promised to start riding regularly but I've not seen him since..... :(
did you ever ride that big outdoor vert ramp in the childrens nursery in New Malden? I rode there all through 96-97. Paul Meacher (don't know if you know him) was a regular there and has gone on to be a cracking vert rider. He's on here also. :)

So, in that photo of Stupple airing the clover. The lad on the far right of the picture in a light blue top - that would be Pikey Paul Davis. He hasn't changed in 20 years either, still looks exactly the same.
Just left of centre next to the black lad, that looks like Steve Vinoah to me.

Oh Ralph, help me out. Do you remember Andy Heath? I always thought he was one of those characters that people never forgot, but ask as I may, I think only Stupple and me remember him. I'd like to know what ever happened to him. :)

I thought the same thing - I remember Errol being a giant - big hands! - definately him though. The kid with Red protec and black Jofa face guard is Damon - I think he was stading on Tony's shoulders! lol.

this other pic always makes me laugh - it's a centrespread from the flimsy (Northern lol) and grim "BMX Weekly" (booo) but my entire bike and body had "BMX Action Bike" logo's plastered all over them - I think they published the only shot where they weren't completely obvious. How shit was "BMX Weekly"???

You're not the-boy-Ross with mohican-like haircut I remember skating/riding that rather nice indoor half-pipe in Snake-City (think that was the name of the shop - near market square in Nottingham)... could pull off nice (bike not skate) stalls to fakie?... Broadmarsh Banks??? etc

That was "King of Concrete" (or "King of the Skateparks") 1984 - me, Tony and Damon, although shitting ourselves generally about competitions (too intense, too much pressure, too much like hard work in comparison to jams basically) turned up psyched up and ready to enter... only to find you had to register ages before the event and couldn't sign up on the day... pretended we were pissed off about it for about 5 minutes then agreed we were happy as larry - lol - so we could do the jam without the pressure of the 2 minute run.
Regret it with the benefit of hindsite though as this was the second to last time I went to Rom before packing it in (stupidly) - there was one truly amazing final shoot that we did there afterwards with Tim Leyton-Boyce which was the very last time I went - perfect blue skies, almost empty park, no pressure... everything clicked... the biggest airs we ever did there probably, all over that Park and all variations that we knew of at that time... I saw these pictures on slides at the BMX Action Bike office a few days afterwards and they were truly beautiful but never got published... swiped a couple but lost them since... shit I would kill (well... pay lots) to get my hands on the full set now... anyone know where Tim L-B keeps his archive??? lol
In fact does anyone know if Tim LB is still alive?
I knew someone who knew someone who still knew him when I worked at Getty Images a couple of years back - tried to make contact but... silence... maybe he never forgave me for nicking those slides lol - what a truly top geezer he was - we have so much to thank that guy for... along with all UK skaters... if I met him again I would buy him endless beers....
