Title: Freewheel removal – which direction?
Post by: Stevo on July 22, 2007, 11:20 PM
Guys, I know this might be a daft question, but I want to make sure I am turning the ACS freewheel spanner in the right direction – counter clockwise. The freewheel locks when turned clockwise, so it must be counter.

But, it is proving tough to remove, even with the right tool.   :(

I am trying to remove an ACS claws freewheel from a new style white Tuff – haven't seen much action either. I have added WD40 to help also.

Cheers

turn it the way it spins to remove it

if the freewheel is really tight, clamp it in a vice, and turn the wheel off the freewheel

they undo the normal way (counter clockwise)

sometimes they are a little tough, but they all come undone in the end
put a tyre and tube on the wheel, so you have something to grip on

Managed to remove it after a lot of effort. BMX maintenance is tougher than the Gym sometimes.  :D

Thanks for the pointers lads.
