Walked past a bike shop in Chelmsford on Saturday and sitting in the window was the new Raleigh Aero Pro in all its team livery.
Took me right back to the 80s. Done a massive double take! :LolLolLolLol:
-
did you get a close look? i see that thing almost every day and the build quality looks worse each time!
-
To be fair Rhys didn't look too closely at it.
I'll check it out next time.
-
They've got the team burner in one of my local bike shops, had a look today. Looks the part (as in it looks like an old burner) but you wouldn't want to ride the thing in anger. Very heavy, tubing very thin, stupidly over-priced @ £250.
-
I was stood next to one yesterday in a Raleigh shop, the bloke said that there is another one with better parts and made in less numbers on its way ???

He's talking out his arse. I know exactly what's coming and it's very similar.

The bars are wrong as the rake is terrible but the frame is fine and it's thickness hasn't been caled into question as far as I know. Considering it's a very limited edition with Skyways and a great retro color scheme then i think it's very good value for money.

anyone got a pic of one of these?

Whats on the way Zippy ??? another burner re-issue :-\ ive got one of these still boxed up and it will stay that way for a while yet, as my mates got one and the parts are cheap, not even tange grips just copies! nice frameset and wheels though. The welds are alot neater than the old burners
-
Just been looking at the picture and wondered what brake pads they are using. They look black, they haven't got original tuff pads made have they ?
If they have I'm off to the local dealers sharpish ;)

They are sweet grips... yes they were copied from the original tange grips, but have had the Raleigh logo moulded into them instead... and in most people's opinion they have been one of the few plus points (frame & forks aside)... nice soft compound as well...
Original CAD drawings...

Can't fault the frame and forks.... (mind you... I am a little biased... ;) )

To be fair i didnt see that on the pads :-[ the brake pads are just tektro black pads nothing special. :P
-
I've bought one to leave in the box. Seemed like a bargain at £249 to me, considering about £70 - £80 of that is the Tuffs.
-
Just race prepped mine for the Burner race at MK. :daumenhoch:
-
Shame about the brake pads, although saying that they ought to be fairly good on tuffs can't sell a new bike with nasty brakes.
I had a look round a few burner sites and they are also doing the up to date version with an alloy frame, doesn't look too bad.

beard you flash bastard! ;D

I take it you helped raleigh with the new burner then? :coolsmiley:

I take it you helped raleigh with the new burner then? :coolsmiley:
Depends on whether you like the idea of the new bike or not... :-\
If you do, then YES...we helped.
If not, then I have no idea what you're talking about! ;)
-
Yeah i do like it mate. I wouldn't have bought one otherwise :coolsmiley:. There is a few things i would have changed though. Why didnt they stay more faithful to the original parts? I guess it would be difficult sourcing some parts, or they were trying to keep the price down, :-\ i think it would have been a better bike. just my opinion :daumenhoch:
-
It was all in the cost really. Raleigh commissioned new toolings for the stem and grips, and that cost a fortune...we've seen the figures!
If they had done the same for the brakes or seat etc, the price would have rocketed past the £250 that some people have said is too expensive anyway. People forget that only 450 were made, so there wasn't many pieces for them to get their investment back. The truth is that some of the parts had to be sourced from the catalogues from the big manufacturers. Some parts were pretty much spot on (like the seat clamp), others we had to pick the best option available.
Raleigh are actually letting Beard and I design a bike of our own based on the frame from the 25th Anni Team Pro...this will be limited even further, and will hopefully be out early 2008 8)
-
that new burner frame is pretty good
the old aero pro was good too, except for the pathetic rear dropouts
the new one could do with canti lugs though, and a 1 1/8" headtube ;)

WOW  I want one, put me down for one of them beauts :daumenhoch:
-
Lets be fair great Frame and wheels but corners have to be cut to make them affordable . White Skyway pads are £15 quid each , as for a true retro crank these can be very expensive . Personally can't wait to get mine and start specing it up Total respect to Raleigh for Doin it !!!! . :daumenhoch:
-
Beard and DaveMac, who has Number 0001 then? What name is on it?
-
Nobody knows who has number 0001 yet. :(
-
Are Raleigh doing a competition then? A bit like Willy Wonka?
Get the number one frame and get a tour of raleigh HQ ;D
Watch the oompa loompas going to work on mini burners...
-
that would be quality!!!
-
The numbers on our personalised frames aren't production numbers, they denote the membership we allocate through Burnerworld so that Raleigh allow us to sell repro merchandise.
After we struck the deal with Mervyn at Raleigh, I made Beard membership number 2, me number 3, but number 1 is Craig Schofield who supports as at Burner Bash every year :daumenhoch:
Of the production bikes of the new TAP, it was pot luck what we got. I think Beard got #000074, and I bagged 000008 8)
-
Who got Brard 0001 then? The MRS!!!!
Thats how it works in my house
