When I got back into BMX, I really didn't like new school style very much. Now my attitude has changed, after riding new school bikes and being more into the new school scene, I must say that I am impressed with the bikes and components and new school definately has a wickedly cool style of its own.
Now the 1 thing that really disappoints me about new school is the number plates, what happened? Bitd, number plates were cool and very much a fashion thing. I must have had every style at one time or another, Zeronine, Haro circuit board etc etc. These days it is just an ugly piece of plastic that does not seem to fit the style of bike or on the handlebars at all.
Where did it all go wrong?
-
I am with you on that Mr Stiddards!
I am also not down with the colours either nowadays, although, they do seem to be getting better.
It amazed me at Bournmouth just how many race bikes all look the same!
-
The colours do seem to be getting there again Orb, just need a nice chrome new school race bike now. BRING BACK CHROME!!!.
Although I did just build a black new school cruiser so I am just as much to blame.
-
with you there sean, i got round it by running my oldschool bars and putting an oldschool plate on.
-
Sounds good Darren, though you would have though that something other than the square ugly things that exist today would be used by current racers. Cruisers are even worse, I am thinking of getting a red mini Uni plate for my cruiser at least it would be different.
-
go for a custom one, have heard these guys are good.

You got me thinking now how my new 24" would look in chrome
with an MRD mini plate.

woohoo...eye candy.... those pro necks look tasty too.....
-
I've only just got back riding but I picked up a mag the other day and every frame in it looked the same, single top tube bikes, one advert looked like the same bike in twenty different miserable dark drab colours just different prices.
-
when i got back into bmx in 1996 the bikes were still "exciting"
some were still fruity!
but by the end of the 90's they all got a bit samey.
nice n strong now though. with good hardwearing components.
-
I will take those bikes built of scaffolding seriously when i am at a level where i can snap what i am riding now.
-
then youll never ride one.
-
LOL
seriously though, bikes have come a long way since i got back into it
looking in a 96 bmx magazine at the GT "pro world tour" - that was 900 QUID - and it had SCREW ON PEGS and a caliper front brake. you get a lot more for your loot nowadays.
shit even some of my newschool mags seem "old" now. not "midschool". thats a stupid phrase. like "prequel"
-
the one thing that i don't get about newskool riding is studded belts and your trousers half way round your ar$e cheeks with primark pants giving it large? in our day this was reserved for builders and general mongs :-\
-
general mongs, lol
-
