Title: hoffman big daddy
Post by: rarman1 on August 03, 2007, 11:13 PM
hi all,

i just got my big daddy from the US, i have wheels for it and decals (thanks YGT)

i want to build up a parts list for my build and would like to know what your ultimate mid school parts list would be i.e. cranks, bars, tyres etc, even frame colours as it needs paint

I always liked Big Daddies in that dark green colour...  It would be nice to see one done as a Kevin Jones replica   :daumenhoch:

Post by: rarman1 on August 04, 2007, 02:26 PM
yeah i like the black one dave (was gonna buy it myself :'()

and i've tried to find pics of a green one but no luck, so if anyone has any scans of kevin on his, would be appreciated :)
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: TwoBobRob on August 04, 2007, 03:18 PM
No scans I'm afraid, but if you go searching for Dorkin'  videos from the mid school, particularly Wheelies, you'll see the bike on those   :)

the one i got has kevin jones decals.....you never know rar ..you may have a chance again ..lol

is kevin jones the rider with the peregrine Q bars ?
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: TwoBobRob on August 04, 2007, 09:34 PM
Kevin Jones is a bit dorky looking, longish hair, old.   :)   I recall there was often a red seat on his bike, one peice crank and plastic pedals. I think...  I'll find summat on youtube for you,  hang on...

Dammit, can't find owt.....   someone will be along to help you out soon enough   :)

Here is a pic of Jones on a big daddy.

I painted this yesterday. It's just a rider.

I like the green and the black looks good too. You can't go wrong with q bars or kneesavers. A lot of them ran 1 piece cranks, or 3 piece GT/ profile or GT power series. ACS RL edge tires were/are the best in my opinion.

Thats bloody typical   ;D ;D ;D

Picture of Kevin,  no red seat, no one piece and no placcy pedals.....  dammit!!    ;D

Post by: almasterb on August 04, 2007, 10:32 PM
Ha Ha. You're right though. In Wheelies he did have Grafight pedals and a red Kashimax seat, but I don't have a pic.

Flatlandfuel.com  has the complete Dorkin DVD set. It's the best riding from 88 to 2000 if you haven't seen them yet.

I've got a sticker scan if anyone needs it.  Someone on VBMX got them from me a while back to get some made.  He may have extras to sell.  I'll look back and see who it was if anyone needs.  Let me know.

they are really cool rides, i find myself getting more into mid school as i missed those years
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: Capt Canuck on August 10, 2007, 06:51 PM
I really like the mid school stuff better. Although I rode a Kuwahara Bravo pro for a couple years in the late 80's. Not to big on the Haro's with the rear framestands.(what were they thinking)!!

Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: rarman1 on August 10, 2007, 07:02 PM
yeah the rear framestands is the killer of haro in those years for me too, so pointless, although i rode bmx's from 81 my favourite was my gt world tour from 85-88

if its the jap version it might not be worth the shipping cost.
unless it stays rearly rearly low, plus he wants it collected i think
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: almasterb on August 22, 2007, 09:22 PM
It looks like the OG frame to me, with the coaster tab below the chainstay, and that headtube decal. Looks like 2 cable guides on the downtube and the boxed gusset behind the bb. It's hard for me to see clearly though.
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy

Looks like a POS to me! All the parts look crap, £800 to £1000 my arse!
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: harris on August 22, 2007, 09:25 PM
i have asked for a good id on the frame from him but no reply
and as laz said the parts are low\end  but could possily be us frame
that and forks would be only bits worth shipping
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: harris on August 22, 2007, 09:27 PM
if i was fitter i would deffo ship for you
im kinda tied up with a recovery so at this
moment in time i cant rearly be of help

Post by: almasterb on August 22, 2007, 09:32 PM
That's alright, thanks anyway. Yes, the parts are crap thats for sure. I'd really want better pics of that frame before bidding, just to be sure. But if it is what I think...i'll tell you i've been looking a long while for one.
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy

Title: Re: hoffman big daddy

could it not be a sugar baby frame set as the parts would ring more true as a lower end setup
Title: Re: hoffman big daddy
Post by: almasterb on August 22, 2007, 09:46 PM
It could be? But I haven't  seen a sugar baby with dropouts like that. Strange it says collect only but also 30 to post?
