Title: redline proline cranks
Post by: rarman1 on August 10, 2007, 07:53 PM
hi all,

i've got some redline proline cranks but they came with euro bb, i've seen on alans they do a sealed us bb kit for 20mm spindle,

does anyone know if this will fit properly ?

thanks,
rob

Both my sets of Flights have different size axles so I'm no help on the measurements however, Aldi do a digital vernier caliper for about £8  :daumenhoch:

I could be wrong here but is the spindle raised after the splines, if so then i would imagine it is a 20mm spindle . :)

i think i'm in the same boat.
my set of early 90's flites have a non sealed BB, the problem i have is the chainwheel spacer has an inside diameter smaller than the spindle diameter. so i'm thinking i may have the 20mm spindle.
what i don't know is do all crank arms have the same size splines so all i need to do is get a nice sealed BB and put my cranks on them?

to be honest i'm tired of pulling the flites off and putting the one piece in just to go for a ride  :-[

You'd better get on to Redline and let them know...

 :D :P ;)

Also, the flight cranks with the floating spindle on a sealed bottom bracket some times came with a very thin top hat washer, I think this reduced the internal size of the bearing from imperial to metric ( or the other way around)...  not sure on the dates though ???

Custom riders also do these if the 20 mm is too big, which is nice.

im deffo gonna contact redline cos these proline cranks aint 19mm.

cranks and 19mm a/f spanner

19mm spanner
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/v255/rombloke/DSCF3190.jpg)

ok the spanner fits over the splines...so i guess they are 19mm.

but where the bearing sits the spanner does not fit over.....so i was right

redline prolines do take a 20mm bearing....
