I was just looking at Jimmyp's thread about his Kuwi ET (looks fooking lovely Jimmy) and was wondering what are peoples favourite time when building a new bike??
Do you enjoy finding the parts?
Do you enjoy the preparation?
Is it the very end of the build when you add pads, numberplate or chain (or other finishing touch)?
Personally I love the time when I have everything in front of me ready to start, Frame powdered or chromed, all parts cleaned and polished and laid out on the living room floor (If my missus is reading this, I actually build them in the shed love ;) ).
What is your favourite time and why?

i enjoy finding the stuff .
restoring junk to nice condition
and build wise i like to find all my spanners after :)
-
I'm a bit the same, I like waiting until I have all the parts for the built, I rarely start it unless I have all the parts ready to put on. Then its building it and finishing it that gives me the greatest pleasure. Paying for the parts is the worst part!
-
when you get that last and crucial part and can begin final assembly.
-
assembly for me
its when the dream takes shape
you think you know what its going to look like , but then it turns out different lol
that feeling of it all coming together and then the finnished build is sitting there all nice an shiny

i fookin hate building bikes me, ive got all the bits i need for two builds, a ghp and an elf dblx and i really can't be arsed, the best bit is thrashin the fook out of em when they are done :daumenhoch:

For me its when I collect a new freshly powdered Frameset & put the decals on & it looks mint.
I always like the look of a mint un-built Frameset, just like I used to see hanging up in the bike shops BITD :smitten:
Sometime when there built, the magic goes :( & I start to look for another :-\

Receiving parts from Mr postman, turns boring days into exciting days...yep I must have a sad life :LolLolLolLol:
I now enjoy all aspects of a new build, from initial idea, sourcing parts, cleaning/restoring them/getting a good bargain and the final assembly where you can just sit down with a cuppa tea and admire what you've done.
My first build I wanted to get done asap but now I'm more relaxed and enjoy the build process throughout no matter how long it takes.

Defo assembly for me too, being able to build it up and watch it take shape.
Although it does give you a buzz whan you finally find those rare parts that you have been looking for on the bay or on here for about 10 months :LolLolLolLol:

i love hunting down all the parts but most of all i love restoring the parts, polishing painting and making things for resto :smitten:
-
Love every aspect of a build, but finally sitting on your dream is unbelievable after 25 years ::), and riding them is even better :smitten:, brings back so many OS memories ;D
-
i like the bit where the frame n forks are freshly painted, you have the shiny new headset in, and it's time to fit stickers
after doing that i can pretty much stare at what i have done for weeks
it becomes a display piece, without being a whole bike in the way
-
I like the restoration of otherwise crappy bits, final assembly is a close 2nd but my fave is riding it oncit's all together. I used to want to build carpet queens but I just can't resist getting on the buggers :idiot2:

I like the hunt for the parts and finding the elusive last bit, but then the wheel building sort of starts the job for me, but the most nervy bit and one I um and ahh about is whether to actually put those nos decals on at all :uglystupid2: Sounds a bit dumb but once you start they need to be right!!

when they are sold
