its right though isnt it? in both senses of the w-o-r-d :LolLolLolLol:
dont tell me you wouldnt think exactly the same thing if they were model trains!
"oooh! ooh! look everyone! look how great i am with all my "hordings" lined up! i hope youre all suitably impressed AND jealous...................i love it when people ..........get .........oooooooh!"
:LolLolLolLol:
i'd rather see 1 nicely restored bike like that guys red/TA in the resto section than any of this "jizz fodder"
i get the feeling that some "old school bmxers" are more into the financial gain than "bmx" as a hobby :daumenhoch:
sad.

Have to agree with most of your points Joe, model trains :LolLolLolLol:
I've never made any money, everytime I sell something it's almost always for less than I've paid ::).

well said dude,
for me this one will always be known as......
"the OBVIOUS collection"
so i'll be completely honest,
i find myself going cold when i see these "moneybags" bikes, the hutch's, jmc's,loopy rippers, gen 1's,etc,etc
it just seems indeed like the obvious thing to do,
"right i'll build a really shiny, expensive bike and then i'll in some way be accepted as a "serious old schooler"
theyve been done to death!
evertime i see another ripper finished, or an auction for a $10,0000 fooking jmc/hutch/whatever, i literally groan with boredom :daumenhoch:
i've had more interest in seeing the likes of the silverfox, the aero freestyler, the rickman, the more obscure stuff,
like that free agent chrome number at mk, an oddball but really well done!
the thread about the holeshot, i'm actually waiting to see if someone finds one :smitten:
lets be honest, its a status thing isnt it? :LolLolLolLol:
"my hutch is worth.....blah,blah,blah"
but remember, any chump can go straight out and blow a huge chunk of cash on an over restored bike with all the same old boring parts on,it wont bring you any credibility though.
and as for this cats "collection" :LolLolLolLol:
its a joke really isnt it?
boxes and boxes full of brakes?? pads lined up on racks?
its not a "collection" its clearly "STOCK"
all this "ive been collecting and rumaging for years"
reads more like...." i'm going to want a big fat payout for all this soon you know"
and who's going to be paying out eh?
us.

I must be feeling ill... I find myself agreeing with you...
How about we take a trip and we liberate all this NOS stuff and redistribute it over in the UK... kinda like BMX Robin Hoods... :coolsmiley:
-
Dont knock the collectors too hard, they are as much part of this hobby as the racers, or the flatlanders and freestylers. You get moneybags and pousers in all walks of life, just like bitd, I would be riding my mongoose 2 with no matching parts and the local rich kid would turn up on a brand new KZ1, it didnt make him better than me, but it didnt make him an arsehole either!!!
I still like to see the NOS stuff, just the same as when I went window shopping at Alpine sports or Superbike.
But I gotta say, I washed the filth and mud off my Redline today, and that bike gives me so much more satisfaction than any shiny nos bike that may be lurking in some collectors loft :daumenhoch:
Each to their own

Could not agree more, Some very harsh opinions on this post. Cant knock someone who spends his life collecting old music albums, or war memrobilia or lets say old bmx parts. I think some of the posts on this thread say more about the poster than anything else ::)

i'm on the fence. i couldn't agree if it's a collection or not. a collection would mean he would have one of each colour, type etc. i don't know who he is on ebay but i reckon he'd be doing alright ;)
-
I think most of that gear is long gone, it seemed to me that he just got into buying up old bits that were only going to be junked if he hadn't bought them. When he mentioned shop owners saying 'take the lot for $100' it had a desperation to it on their part. I personally know a guy who runs an old bike shop in Bushey and when BMX went boobs up here he junked a skip full of parts that he couldn't afford to keep.
No one knew there wuld be this revival, the internet etc. To keep his business afloat he had to buy up the next big thing, mountain bikes, or go under.
My point is (I think) is that this guy is showing off what he HAD.

LOL
THE collectors are as important as anyone in this scene and to be fair its what its about to a lot of people , just cos you look at an "over restored " bike and dont like it then cool , to you this scene is about something else , which is good as it needs all sorts to progress
but to me just cos it costs a lot dont make it something to scorn
you guys need to see whats being spent on other " collectible " items to put some of the old BMX prces in perspective
jeez plastic toys are all the rage these days and some of them go for real big money , different strokes for different folks
thats an amazing collection , of stuff and to be fair he could sell it all today for market rate and so what
should he sell it for less cos some may think he is profiteering , we live in a market economy not communism
heres an idea on other collectibles that cost way more than bmx , to show that its not just bmx that gets money for something that could be percived as overpriced
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Amos-James-Jarvis-Full-Set-NOKIA-Figures-Rare_W0QQitemZ130145822495QQihZ003QQcategoryZ348QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem
and some of these toys can go for 1000s of pounds
its an odd world

somtimes i wonder why some comments are made! I'm glad my life is not so black and white.
-
i had the chance of a zeronine freestyler a year n a half ago, it dangled in front of my face for on ebay twice and was then re-listed at an even lower price of $89 BIN and i went n got a sport instead, B@STARD!
that profile is bling as fook
any way he's got the wrong decals on his GHP, fookin amateur :LolLolLolLol:
-
I sold him all that lot last week for a tenner.,,, old stock and that ...
Dont think there a market for that old stuff anymore
-
LOL
apparently theres a bikes shops stash somewhere , just awaiting the right person to find it lol
