Well done Daniel!! An offshoot of Standard called the Rock Island bike co. with Joe Rich at the helm planned to make a whole range of gear (frames parts etc) but fell at the first fence having pushed out a few sets of budget pegs!
It was a 'blink and you missed it thing!' Alex was too busy on the west coast!
-
Rock Island Bike Co! Yes, I totally remember. It was going to be a "budget" parts offshoot of the very expencive standard. Then Joe and Luc-e were going to run it. I thought at the time it was strange for 2 of the hottest riders to be at the top of the budget side of standard, as it was likely they wouldnt be using the stuff.

talking of small just started companys that just fell of the map
does anyone remember "country"
i bought a stem in around 1998 as had to fill in a form
and asked to send a feedback in after a short while .

Country bikes? Craig Stephens rode for them. He gave me a red mesh hat with a truck on it. It was pretty cool but the hat was so cheap it was horrid. I tried to get a shirt too for a mate who is into county music but I never got it sorted.
I think that Craig still rides for them but I aint sure. Ive not seen him for ages.
-
Then i congratulate you both! You mid monkeys!
-
damn it I was too late ... I never actually saw any ribco stuff appart from faxes saying it was comming.
-
country bikes are still going http://www.countrybikes.de but there more into the distribution side dealing with macneil and profile.craig still rides for them and the last i heard he was getting a signature frame but that was a while ago.
-
I spoke to Craig about his sig frame (a while ago). He said that he wanted it in Denim finish! Hardy joked and said he thought they would probably do it ... as it wasnt like they would have to do many anyway! ha ha.
-
nothing would surprise me when it comes to craig ::) i'm meeting him for a few drinks next week so i'll ask him whats up with country.
-
Can you say Hi from me, Ive not seen him for ages. He used to live in Oxford and we rode together quite a bit.
I gather he is quite "Rock n Roll" these days!
-
yeah will do,craig is rock n roll alright ;D don't know if you use myspace but you'll find him here http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=36703295
-
yeah i knew all about ribco... but i've been "last man standing" at a wedding for the entire weekend so i'm only just compos mentis.. straight edge? more like wobbly middle.......
-
Due to the grade of stainless used Ribco pegs appear a little duller in colour or color if your american. still they was cheaper than standard pegs so for grinding ledges etc why pay more? bought several sets from Colin at Get Pedalin in Colechester, and still using them today.

Colin @ GP was a top man! we used to get all our stuff mail order from him :daumenhoch: where's he at now?
