Title: Redline Proline 24" Vs Felt Sector 24.........
Post by: Pro-tec on September 11, 2007, 07:19 PM
Can the great and good of Rad help me out with a dilemma here?
I'm going into 40+ cruiser next year having got back into it via the 07 OS Summer Series and am torn between an 07 Proline and an 07 Felt cruiser as my steed.
How do they compare spec wise? and what is a flip flop hub, as fitted on the Felt?
Thanks in anticipation.
PT.

"what is a flip flop hub, as fitted on the Felt"

A flip flop hub just means that there are 2 threads on the rear hub for freewheels, one on each side. One of the threads is normal (16t and up). The other is smaller so it can take smaller teethed freewheels (14t and 15t). It means you can run a smaller front ring (lighter) and have the same gearing.

Its not a new thing. Most high end Old School hubs were flip flop.

Ah ha!! just as I suspected. thanks for that. The Redline runs a cassette though......... Options within options...

with a cassette you can run even smaller rear sprockets so you can get it even lighter (you get to loose a fair few chain links too). Also, the "freewheel" mechanisum tents to be better on a cassette cos the paws are wider and closer to the middle of the hub. Having said that, if its a crappy cassette then a normal screw on freewheel might be better, esp if you dont wanna run a small gearing anyway.

If the choice if from those 2, I'd go for the Redline. Rear cassette, Rhyno-lite rims and the 'Rad-favourites' Proline 3-pc cranks would swing it for me.

Have a look at the Haro SX24 as well - there are a couple on here who have ridden them and would recommend them

I had one of those Haro SX24's and it was perhaps the most underratted cruisers out there. The spec list was really good as well.

I had an SX24 as well, but I wanted something for bombing around on and it wasn't really big enough, so I sold it and bought a 26"er
