Title: New School Flight Help Please
Post by: Haro82 on September 16, 2007, 02:34 PM

Just got some new school twin pinch flights. I might be being a bit stupid here but what is the blue shim that comes with them for ? I presume it goes over the bb spindle inside the BB but why would you need it ?

Any help appreciated .

Cheers
Andy.

It's there to stop you 'pinching' the bearings when you tighten the crank arms on. You can do without it, but it depends if you want free-spinning cranks or not.

Ahh, I understand now. It just looked to me that it was a little bit big, so I was thinking that when I put the bottom bracket cups in they might not fit snug on the bottom bracket with the spacer in.

I better put it in then  :daumenhoch:

Cheers for the info, Moose.

you might need to trim the spacer down if it is a little bit long so that your cups and bearings fit flush. Did your cranks not come with fitting instructions?  :LolLolLolLol:

the fitting instuctions are unbelievably bad anyway, i reckon they were written abroad using a translator.

Check some of the old flight insructions on here or check on line. The BB cups are not supposed to sit flush and the instructions point out that an overlap is common. If you don't use the sleeve you can damage your bearings.
