Title: Skyway Wheel Types
Post by: jody on September 18, 2007, 09:59 AM
Hi,
can anyone tell me the difference's with the graphites when compared to the standard Skyways, and whether they are stronger and better built, and how can you tell if you have an old school build and age (steel, alloy flanged, plastic hubbed)  :daumenhoch:
                                                                                                                                                       Thank You, Jody.

The Graphites cost about 6 times as much ;)

The old skool Graphites will be Black & have a Gold alloy hub, they are lighter, but I don't think they are as strong.

Be carefull if your thinking of getting some as the new ones can be made to look like the old ones with copy alloy covers that go on the hub.

Im sure someone will post some pic's, Im at work at the mo, so unable to.

Hope this helps  :)

The graphites look different close up , the material used looks a bit lighter ,but its hard to spot unless you have 2 up close

old graphites also have a mixture % written in the rim in white, alas so do normal ones only different writing so again you have to know what to look for
Graphites had a few revisions and have diff hubs dependant on age

there a few diff types of older tuffs
starting with tuff 1s which had a moulded hub like the later tuff2s

then steel hubbed tuff2s,followed by alloy hubbed then moulded and again a few different revisions within this

campy hubbed graphites are probably the most desirable

and alloy hubbed in the tuff2 ,again this is and I am sure will be debatable LOL

my understanding is that each graphite had different ammounts of " graphite" hence the percentage writing in white on the inside of the rim which is lighter in colour BUT i have seen really dark ones as well which look the same colour so dependant on the amount or percentage used it does vary the colour as well as the actual look of the wheel, which looks swirly and kinda mottled

although i am going on a lot of evidence from photos and others comments

having only seen a few graphites myself its all guess work and reserch
