Hi folks :daumenhoch:
Since the Epic meet on Sat, I've realised that my Adidas Samba are totally inadequate for protecting my feet. So now I'm going to invest in some decent footwear that will hopefully look after my tootsies.
I'm a corporate whore so have no issues with Vans, DC etc so would any one be able to provide any recommendations.
Many thanks
Paul :)

i ride in a pair of duffs, £30 from tk max :daumenhoch:
-
2 main categories:
Thin so you can feel the pedals BUT not really any foot protection (e.g. old style vans)
Thick with plenty of upper padding, air bubble in the sole to soften the shock when you jump off and hit the floor feet first, BUT you cant really feel the pedals as much (e.g. most DCs and Osiris)
Most shoe companies make 'fat' and 'thin' shoes
-
gucci loafers for those with a full race spec Hutch :LolLolLolLol:
-
DC's :-X
-
just got my Extreme Direct catalogue through the post this morning.....ALL vans are £29 :daumenhoch:
-
get yourself to soccerWorld dude, they selling off all the converse and converse style shoes from as little as a fiver. i got some baseys from the officers club, once again just like converse and a fraction of the price, 4 years of riding withem and the raggier they get the better they feel. im not one for thick soles personally as i like the confidence of knowing exactly where my feet are on the pedals, so id say baseball boots, cheapo, vans, converse etc, everytime.
-
the bamba and samba you got in the 80's had the vans waffle soles, they where cooooool :daumenhoch:
-
Sneaker type Shoes like VANS etc fit snugly onto DX type pedals like a dream. - The hightop variety also have a reinforced heel/ankle part which offers a lot of protection.
Thing is, people are riding a lot of larger pedals now like the PRIMO ones etc.
These sort of pedals feel crap with Vintage trainers as they dont fit roud all the studs on them and its just clumsy feeling.
For newschool larger pedals, all the chunky skate shoes fit really well.
IM personally a sucker for the black suede & gum sole look for modern skate shoes.
If your on a budget, get hold of some MASS produced modern "sell out" AIRWALK from a crap sports shop like "sports world" £12ish
Otherwise TK MAXX is full of loads of awesome rare designer skate shoes, often which you cant even get in a london boutique skate shop. Usually priced at £30 max
-
try some manolo blahniks.... :D
-
I just wear a pair of chunky dc's that i dont mind putting a hole in as i fall off my bike.
-
i got girly ankles, so any high tops for me :2funny:
-
Bof swears by patent cubans :daumenhoch:
-
Adidas forest hills for me a good compromise between thick and thin sole and a good compromise between looks to - only a small foot here so the skate style DC's etc look like boats on me :LolLolLolLol:
-
i (like many on here) bought some Vans Rowley XLIII's from Crazy Craig......they feel great! and very reasonable price too :daumenhoch:
-
iv got a pair of orchid lurkers they were well cheep most comfy things iv ever worn grip the pedals well to
-
Cheers all for the replies, plenty to choose from and some good suggestions :daumenhoch:
Gonna go with something along the lines of a toe protector/spongy sole however I suppose no shoe can protect your feet fully.
R.I.P my Sambas
Paul :)

Paul can't remember what type they were but i had a pair of vans skate trainers a while back with a solid rubber toe across the front a bit like you would find on a pair of hiking boots, good solid fronts so you could jam them over your front tyre in the forks like you were while trying a bit of trevs flatland school, but really light and comfortable.

as i only ride OS
i only wear OS trainers
in my experiments trimm trabs dont grip at all
forest hills are very grippy along with stan smiths and nike wimbledons borg elites
plus borg elites work well but a tad to grippy
and im sad to say my vans are ok but grip better when the laces are undone
ask anyone who raced me at MK this year ;D
-
I like to ride in either my 12 hole Dr Martins, or a nice set of Cowboy Boots ;)

Get down to "Schu" (I think thats the spelling) on New Street in town Paul. Thats where I got those Vans I was wearing on Saturday. Sturdy, comfy and light. They've got a good selection, try em all on and take your pick. :daumenhoch:
-
Went to TK Max in Brum (thanks bmxmatt for the shout) and they do indeed sell Duffs for £30, bargain. Not bought em yet, I've seen some lookalikes called Airwalk......should I avoid?
CJ - popped to Schuh and they have a good range...just a question of price is putting me off at the mo.
Paul
-
Airwalks are BMX/Skate shoes from long before Duffs. Everyone rode or rode for Airwalk from the late 80s through to the mid 90s.
-
Why not go Bare foot with Hutch Beartraps !! >:D
-
Paul.....just get some cheap Airwalks if all you're going to do is ride in em? people spend far too much on shoes because it's a 'brand' thing, and they worry that they have to wearing the right name or shoe.......who cares about names!! try em on and if they feel good then bobs your uncle :daumenhoch:
i'll just take the pee out of ya next time i see you at Epic/creation ;)
-
Paul if price is an issue, I bought these today for work. £6 from Matalan. Dont laugh.

-
CJ - Matalan ain't bad bud, I've been there many a time for some great bargains, looks like you got a good deal there :daumenhoch:
Well after much looking I decided to go for Airwalks from TKMax £20 (apparently retail price is £55). Feel nice and comfy so far and will hopefully do the trick of looking after my feet ;)

WTF happened to airwalk?
seems they sold out to some random chinese factory over the past few years. Seems the only place you can get em now is in cheap sprts shops, and theyre a bit clompy too
-
like the OS Vans myself. not excessive in the cushioning department (understatement) but awesome grip on flatties. lack of cushioning isn't so much of an issue on my downhill mtb though!
-
:LolLolLolLol: Are you millipede man?
-
How do you find em Paul? i bet they're better than your Samba! :daumenhoch:
-

Nice and comfy mate :daumenhoch: At first they felt a bit weird as they look quite wide and have a bit of a sole, but getting used to em.....don't think they'll improve my ridin though :(
-
VANS VANS AND VANS :4_17_5: you cant beat a waffle bottom ;)
-
