When I see stuff like that it reminds me of when I first got into bmx. Tinker was kicking ass with Jeff Watson at the skateparks about the time that pic was taken.
Happy Days :LolLolLolLol: Love the Moto 3's they just look the business :daumenhoch:
Bet Dennis and Rick will be chuffed that you've dug that one out Matt :daumenhoch:

Great picture! But then any picture of a sidehack is a great picture.
I had already retired from racing by the time that pic was taken. So I do not know who the two riders are. I am sure Rick will know.
Let me tell you something, the first two corners at the Rancho downhill were the BEST 2 turn combination for a sidehack in all of BMX. After a flat start and a long 1st straight, the first turn just seemed to fall away down the hill. Carved into the earth at the bottom and bermed high at the top, it was plenty wide enough for 2 hacks to be side by side.
Here is a wide shot...

This shot is between the first and second turn...

That would be Rancho local Robbie Kirkum and Angel (?) Rodrigues. Robbie must have been in his 20s when that pic was taken cause he was already old in 76 when I met him! Robbie and Alan Brickey (and others) used to do the Lakeside, Rancho routine. They took that hack out of retirement as you can probably tell from the single stem and absolutely kicked ass that day on the "newer" generation of hackers.
Robbie changed from pilot to monkey and could do both just as good
I'm also pretty sure that Dennis raced against Robbie (in hacks) at a big race in San Diego sometime in 77 (with Red/Ruiz winning of course) :)
In the 81 race, My old hack pilot Mike Hardaway trophied that day and I believe Johnny Johnson doubled against some big names. I think I actually made it into the semis that day
Here's s few pics of hacks at Rancho

Robbie raced a few times with one of the Sieber bros who are riding the MM-1 hack in this picture. Red probably remembers the MM-1 hack from the Grands at Devonshire...:)

This is the same race as the one with the original picture. That's the legendary Crofoot brothers biting hard in the background. Kirkum/Rodriguez put a killer move on the first place hack in the second corner. Dennis and I raced against Kelly Crofoot (his brother was a spectator) and Gork this spring at the Roseville nationals
Bonus question: Who is the photographer (the cat in the white shirt and backwards hat) in the picture?
Red is right. Rancho had THE best first/second corner for hacks. I absolutely loved those corners and I still can feel the rush of laying it all out there at 35+ MPH. To me, winning at Rancho in a hack race was the high point of my a Facebook group.
Hey, that panoramic pic of Rancho looks familiar. :)

We have a funny way of showing the "love". How many times have I pitched you over the bars of our hack? :2funny:
That is an outstanding 3 shot sequence of the 1st turn at Rancho. Check out the speed!!! And I believe that is a lower age class of hacks.
WOW!!! I can look at those pictures and feel the rush!

Like Red said, those are intermediate or maybe even Junior hacks too! The big boys went way faster.
This is a pic of Ritchie Rippee from the Parson's construction team. That little dude was insane at Rancho

I do not know if some of the people following this thread have not read mine. But sinse this is about side hacks, I have plenty to throw in.
I like this shot, it just has that agressive, get after it attitude.
