As most of you are probably aware, Stuart 'Pepi' Winder passed away a few weeks ago.
Jamie Cameron, a very close friend of Pepi, is currently trying to raise money to fund the burial of the said legend.
As things stand, Pepi will be cremated and put in an unmarked shared grave. However, if £1200 can be raised by the end of next week, then he can be buried in a more dignified manner.
Jamie has organised a light hearted jam at Horsham Skatepark on Sunday 23rd September 2007 to help raise funds.
Alternatively if any of you would like to make a donation of any sort, please PM me ASAP. Paypal accepted and every single penny raised will go towards his burial fund. Unfortunately we are on a very tight time scale, so prompt action is required.
As the majority of us on this site are 80's riders, I would imagine that Pepi would have been quite an influence on many of us. Please help one of the UK's biggest BMX legends have a decent send off. It's the least we can do.

An unmarked grave for Pepi? This is a sad prospect. I don't think this can be allowed to happen. to one of the BMX pioneers in the UK.
I'll be helping out for sure.

I've just spoke to Jamie and the money is required by midweek, so it doesn't give us a lot of time to raise funds.

this the saddest thing i've red in a good while.
its a pity we never knew a bit earlier about this as i bet it would have been raised easy if a few of us with good parts had put up an ebay auction in his memory :(.
-
why not have an auction on here i will put some parts up for it :daumenhoch:
-
that would work if the money went straight to the paypal

yeah, it's a real shame about the short notice as i'm sure just us on RAD could have easily raised that sort of money.
but we're not giving up yet. we've still got a few days and it only takes a few minutes to log onto paypal.

Here are some video clips of Pepi to remind you of what a legend he was.
BMX Beat 1985 - Freestyle Run - Final (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqKQwkA_GXQ)
Poole National 1986 - Ramp Run - The first ever Candy Bar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBHDJ0qHNQ)
BMX Beat International 1986 - Ramp Run followed by Flatland Run - Final (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L91yOy4MMY)
and more recently.... footage from Circle BMX DVD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bocy0o94oaY)
The Poole National clip is actually someone's own footage of Pepi's run which is from the other side of the arena to which the UKBFA released video was shot.

Yeah you can get a grant from Social Services to pay for a better funeral than the standard "porper's funeral" they give to people with no assets or immediate family. We thought this would work out but I got the forms and it turns out the money is only payable AFTER the funeral. We also had to wait for Pepi's body to be realeased by the coroner and now that it has we want to bury him ASAP and with some dignity. I never had to deal with sort of thing before and people usually get leave from work to organise such matters so we're cobbling things together as best as we can.
We'll probably still apply for the grant after the funeral and use that money to pay for a nice headstone. Unfortunately we can't bury him in Horsham now since that's another 2 grand.
-
the cost of these things is a joke.
no wonder you never see a poor funeral director.
even a head stone would be something to mark the fella being here on this planet.
no marker at all just aint right.
-
details for paypal please so can pay

Im going to make it to Horsham with Durty Den Wingham tomorrow for the jam & put our few ££££ into the fund.
I have a NOS Skyway trucker/mesh cap & a pair of NOS Wilkerson Signature ODI grips, boxed with decal, if any of you guys want these then I will have them with me tomorrow & whatever I get for them will go into the fund, ok? More the better....

How is this doing now Trev ???
we're at the £250 mark from RAD donations with a couple of people promising to donate tomorrow. dan's bike is currently at £280.
i will check with Jamie in a bit and find out how much has been raised so far. I imagine he'd have well over £500. I'd say in total, we should be well over a grand by now.

Cheers guys. I don't want to jump the gun but thanks to this board in the last few minutes I think we're raised all money we need if everyone (not on this board but in general) keeps to their promise. Amazing.
-
Nice one guys. I'm glad everyone's done their bit.
Speaking to Jamie earlier, I suggested if there is anything left over, it be kept to one side and put towards a nice headstone in a years time. So although it would appear that the target has been reached, any further contributions will be gratefully accepted.
I'll try and keep you informed of any developments.
You've all done us proud. :daumenhoch:

It is really sad when someone passes and there is no family to speak of. I applaud the people that have organised this and iwill donate today.
I am assuming there has not been a date set for a funeral yet?
-
Funeral details should be sorted today hopefully...
-
Really sad news :(, was watching some of Pepis stuff from 85/86 after hearing the news and to think what the future holds, what a real shame :(

I sent in a $300 donation from the Jenkins family yesterday. I rode with Pepi back in the day, he was a great rider and a great person. I am sorry to hear of this loss to our community.

Just to update you all....we now have enough money to pay for all the funeral arrangements. We should have a funeral date tomorrow but things have been somewhat complicated since there is an inquest ongoing and the DC in charge is on paternity leave. Piers (who together with his brother Hugh have helped enormously to make this happen) spoke to the Coroner (or someone at their office) today and they hope to confirm when the body will be released tomorrow. It may be the case that the funeral wont be 'til next week since we thought the inquest was over.....it isn't. The funeral will hopefully include a service and since Pepi had no family (bar a cousin he'd lost contact with) the vast majority of the church will be available for the many BMXers Pepi befriended over the years. Obviously we'd like to see a good turnout without overcrowding the church, so we'll try to manage things as well as possible to achieve this. I hope that somehow Pepi can see what so many people have done for him - he'd be overwhelmed. I can't thank this board enough since without your help we'd have been well short of of the money needed.
-
I'll be there Jamie. Well done for everything you guys have done to acheive this fella.

Well done fellas raising the funds for this.
-
I would personally like to thank everyone who has donated so far.
I've already mentioned Andy Rufell who has made a nice donation. But special mention has to be made to another one of our Stateside residents. Ross (tricknuts) has also donated a large amount and deserves special thanks for his outstanding generosity.
Thanks to everyone else who has chipped in too. You've all done a tremendous job. You should all be proud of yourselves. It brings a great sense of togetherness within our "small" community. I for one am proud be part of a fantastic group of friends. :daumenhoch:

thanks Dan.
was a lovely turn out today. was a good mixture of old and new school riders there. the majority there were riders as you all know pepi didn't have any family barring a girlfriend and one cousin.
amongst the mourners were names like Billy Stupple, Dave Young, Mike Canning, Dennis Wingham & Zoid.
Other RAD members included Radhab & Steve 1275.
Big Props to Jamie Cameron & Piers Chapman for making this happen. On their behalf, I'd like to thank every single one of you that contributed towards making sure that Pepi got the decent send off he deserved. You've all done us proud.

Nice one Denny.... You seem to have a great stock of video footage... Keep 'em coming mate. :daumenhoch:
That second one, jamming with the rad lads, i remember seeing that on TV accidently and recording it. I watched that so many times but had completely forgotten about it. I was even sad enough to record that cheesy background music and rode to it once at a UKBFA contest.... :-[

out of curiosity i just joined this site tonight and was saddened by this news.
i knew pepi through dave young and competitions in carlisle, i remember staying over at maccy's house one time. i also had the pleasure of winning a high air contest on a space ramp at liverpool, with dave young and pepi winder standing on top of the ramp measuring the height of my airs.
great to watch the footage again and sad to hear the news.

Only just heard about his death a week or so ago. Sad news indeed. Use to compete with Pepi, always a good laugh,he even put me and my girlfriend up at his house after the '87 Worlds finals in Carlisle.
Gutted to hear we've lost another rider.

Hey, Its Macky, Very sad indeed, ive been racking my old brain as to who you are ( Joe Carney? ) i probably shouldn't say this but untill recently i had that whole liverpool comp on video including the high air comp and pepi and dave young's demo but my house got flooded in jan 2005 and i lost a ton of old skool vids and pics.
Anyway welcome to the site although pretty new myself.

how did pepi die? how old was he? :( :(
-
Hi to all the people involved in this site. You'll have to bear with me as Im new to this forum thing. I have just logged on as a new member today and I cant beleive the very sad news about the passing of Pepi. I rode bak in the day! they were such great times. I cant get ova some of the names on here. I never reached the heights of some of you guys but I still cant let go of the whole scene...even at thirty-seven. It's at times like this that it makes you realise what a special time it was..My name is Antony Yeomans and I rode out of Derby with the Ashley Wheatley and the Nottingham Guys...Sibbsy, Donovan to mention but a few, even Bestwick bak then. God Bless you Pepi and to all you guys. Antony.
