while in a + E tonight, webdawg was trying to make me come round after being out cold for a bit, the focus was on history! Not normal history but history with a BMX theme, Ie, how many times you ended up in hospital through BMX, do you know any gay bmxers, whats yur best memories of BMX etc.... Lets hear your views :daumenhoch:
-
do you know any gay bmxers
flaz is always happy.... but i don't think that's what you quite mean....

Crashes (there were plenty :-[)
Alvaston National, jumping into the bombhole and landed face first in the metal grill at the bottom, smashed me full face hemlmet and broke my nose :crazy2:
Slagharen Challenge Cup, first doubles, launched off the first one, mid air collission resulted in me landing on my neck and K/O ing myself, BIG headache :LolLolLolLol:
Farnham National, manualling out of a big set of doubles and forgot to put the front wheel back down :idiot2:, landed on me arse, a trip to A & E revealed a fractured pelvis
Wigan national, jumped the triples out of the first corner, caught the back wheel on the top of the third, front of the bike went down, i'm over the bars and faceplanting, K/O'd again, 4 front teeth gone, broken collar bone, fractured shoulder joint, fractured wrist, cut me head open and broke me nose again
-
twice for me one was knee cap snapped in two no hander endo in the rain
plus rode 3 miles to get home whilst holding me knee cap
mcmark was there lol
and 2nd was sheffield snapped collar bone
-
I wasnt even at Sheffield Rhys but when i heard you were on dirt on slicks i couldnt stop :LolLolLolLol:
-
Crashes? well had a few 'offs' but my worst one was when my (wet) Fuan 8 grips decided to come off mid air sending me face first into the tarmac! also a beartrap style pedal taking a huge chunk out of my shin revieling my shin bone....35 stitches and a lovely big Y scar on my leg! :daumenhoch:
Memories? my best memories of BMX as a youngster are just 'Living' for BMX! when i woke up in the morning i just wanted to get out on my bike........meeting up with friends that loved it as much as i did! cycling to the local shop and dreaming of owning the TA or Redline hanging up behind the counter! making ramps with old wood we could find and milk crates full of bricks! laying in bed (and this is sad i know but i can remember doing it as a child) pretending to be riding my BMX using my fingers as the bike and doing jumps and airs..........also remember getting the p*ss ripped out of me when BMX Bandits came out, as all the other kids used to sing 'BMX boys have a lot of fun....or BMX Boys take up the B*m! :-\
Salad days!!! :daumenhoch: :4_17_5:
-
Nikki, what about when you knackered your knee?
I was only in hospital once with a broken wrist, but that's when I fell off a seesaw :( rode home on my bmx though.

:LolLolLolLol: forgot that one, 35mph from 8ft in the air onto concrete, the syringing fluid off without painkillers was nice.

when i was a kid, i was doing a backwards nose wheelie on a trick ramp - where you endo on a ramp and release your front brake and roll backwards down the ramp on your front wheel. one time, as i went to endo, my front brake cable snapped and i headplanted the ramp hard. knocked me out cold for about half an hour. the funny thing was, my mum saw it from the kitchen and saw me lying there for half an hour and didn't come out to check on me. when i finally made it back to my house, my mum said she thought i was just having a rest. >:(

worst crash was 8 years ago, i was doing a manuale in the days i could do them ;D the ground suddenlt when down hill and my bike flipped, i caught my right foot on my peg and twisted my foot backwards :buck2: i tried to get up , but it was facing the wrong way, a ambulance picked me up, while i was in a-e the nurses were laughing at me, because i crashed on a bmx :-\ it got worse as they put a cast on but then realised that they had to bend my foot back before the cast set, it hurt big time, any way 3hour op, and a plate and 6 pins later, and 1 week in hospital, and all done, :daumenhoch: to be honest ive broken most things on a bmx, ribs thumb, both little fingers, elbow, and a bent spine but that was when i came off my motorbike :uglystupid2: its all good fun :4_17_5: hope you are ok tony what happened ?

-
:LolLolLolLol: your not wrong trev , i think i should stay away from bikes :LolLolLolLol:

me and my bruv(94 performer) were on our way to the local park, and being all rad en that i asked him was his chain tight enough...so he checked whilst peddling....
chopped the ends off his first and second fingers as they went round the chain wheel....he crashed, got up, picked up his fingers with his other hand, told me to mind his bike and ran off ...towards home.....i was about 10 i think.
as i got home wheeling both bikes, my dad went flying past in his massive blue granada estate, on the way to A+E ,where they proceeded to sew em back on....
i was fairly fortunate...i have an excellent in built sense of self preservation and always mardied out of the hard/scary stuff....
just ponced about on the sidelines with the nice threads and the nice bike...( not much changed there then, except for my now manky threads :LolLolLolLol:)

ended up seeing a doctor for nine months for regular check ups.
slammed from a barspin. bar end went into me todge. 20 mins later i tried it again with the same outcome. lay for about half an hour. lazarou nearly called an ambulance in between laughing. anyway the outcome was i trapped blood vessel in the 'big fella' and could only cunjour a semi on for nine months. worse time of my life!

Oh i thought of another! i was riding along and thought that my chain was a bit loose, so....as i was riding (yes actually turning my pedals) i thought it would be a good idea to see if it was loose with my finger!....needless to say it went all the way around the chain wheel and made me cry! :'(
-

Dylan Clayton - a true inspiration to many and just perfect bike skills, an amazing rider :daumenhoch:

I thought Kelly was a rug muncher ???
I have mashed my body to a pulp with BMX/MTB and motorbike crashes, so much so that most of my skin now is scar tissue (I think? concussion is a b1tch :LolLolLolLol: ) :LolLolLolLol:
:) DINGO :)

When was that, in 69 :knuppel2:

:LolLolLolLol: Rumbled again Mark :2funny:
I have broken my collarbone once, bunny hopping a 3 ft pile of builders crap, two nights before a national at Hayes, still raced and holeshot every gate but couldn't get round the first berm without nearly dying from the pain (bit of an exaggeration though :-\), made it through to the quarters though. Also crashed doing a Wilkerson kick turn on a ramp and face planted off the side after catching my wheel as I turned and lowered it back onto the ramp, knocked myself out, chipped a tooth and had a major concussion with double vision for two days :LolLolLolLol:.
-
hello boys, :daumenhoch: .............................................waits for the message sorry you have been banned "YOU KNOW WHY!"

-

-
TBH Mark I should ban you for what you said on OSBMX, but I`ll let that go because it won`t be long before you give me a reason to ban you on here again, now prove me wrong and we will both be happy :knuppel2:

Just as a reminder, you and the gaybiker from the US (but living in the northeast of England) were slagging members here for so-called "shill biidding" after some members expressed an interest in certain items for sale on ebay :daumenhoch:
-
well bitd biggest crash was at folkestone flyers practis meet made it out the gate pushed wide on to tyers n face planted floor wasnt knocked out but didnt have a clue where i was

Think this thread is made for me.....
torn ACL (2 years off work...6 weeks off my bike!!)
3 broken ribs (while recovering from Op for ACL repair..the physio said mild exercise not 360 wall jump to front wheel hook)
dislocated shoulder
lascerated liver with split chin & eyebrow (this was the most painful. I hooked back wheel from a 3 foot air to bars in my guts & pitch onto my head onto concrete from about 13 foot in the air....2 weeks in hospital with morphine for company)
too many scars....
throw in at least 5 black eyes
And I have dented my pride so many times I'm not sure it will ever be the same.....
favourite BMX moment 91 southsea comp...
seeing Glynn Lewis ride/carve the snake run all day saturday(on a firebird which was old skool then!!)
which team does Glynn bat for?? never was sure heard a few rumours tho....
seeing Mr(s) Bestwick/Tabron fight it out on the vert ramp while riding to a techno mix tape I made!!! (Prodigy-Charley & Joey beltram era)
and coming 3rd in C group vert after pulling my 5th 540 air and splitting my shin on a failed 360 look back in the bowls comp the previous day...no stitches just pacifying the St Johns brigade with a promise to go to A&E but riding the whole weekend non stop :2funny:

OK, think I can kill a few birds with one thread here! When I was 12, I went up the inside of a bus on my Team Murray 340 which proceeded to turn left and run over my rear lester mag and my foot breaking both.
Now I can roll your curiosity of car 'sex on wheels' alford into best memories. this pic was an epic roadtrip to The World Champs in Holland in 92/93. Pictured is L-R Steve Bell (apparently now the team mechanic for the Athertons for all you MTB'ers), Carl himself looking moody, Steve Barden (legendary BMX photographer), Rob Stobart (6th at Worlds Slough), Keith 'Jim Dirt' Duly, me, Johnny Beckett (Descent World main man) and Ross Hill (he was 16 here and this picture was taken in Amsterdam, he'd already had beers and spliffs in a sexclub!). Tom Lynch was cameraman and this roadtrip was just everything, street riding in Paris, different tracks and jump spots, sex clubs, what else could you need?
More about Carl, he lived with mad Dog in Huntingdon Beach early nineties and was factory JMC mid eighties. CARL IS THE ONE WITH THE GARAGE FULL OF JMC'S!!!!
As for gay BMX'ers, I just heard that the guy in third in this shot (John Vile leading, me in second) lives with a fella.............
-
started out way back when on a puch murray that my old man bought for me for christmas,
i can still remember that moment now,
i stuck at it so he got me this goose that i loved for years,
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/g171/jarvicseven/actualcopies012.jpg)
(one of a very few riding pics i have of myself, i'm always the one taking the pics! :-[ )
best moment?
tough as theres loads!
riding through sheff at the "battle royal jam"with like 300 other riders, stopping traffic all day! amazing experience!
at one point i stopped and looked back and the road behind me was packed full of bmxers, incredible atmosphere,
last one was getting my custom s&m frame in the post, sounds daft but i was so excited nearly shit a brick,
injuries, fook.......
broke both wrists
broke both ankles, compound fracture in right,
broke three fingers in my left hand,
fractured skull,
many concussions as i'm a tit and dont wear a helmet,
broken nose,
6 stitches in my chin from landing on it
3 broken ribs all at once from devs alloy rail
three broken bones in my right foot
4 stitches in my right knee
many many smaller injuries and cuts over the years,
worst was my left knee, tore the whole patella off and damaged acl, 11 hours of surgery and nearly a year of my bike, it really put the zap on my confidence on my bike after that,
reading hoffmans book put it into perspective for me,
best, we used to make "quarter pipes" on the back garden, there was always bits of wood laying around with nails and shit sticking out of them ,i fell on one and kind of head butted it full on, the nail and the wood it was attached to was fixed firmly to my forehead, one of my mates had to pull the fooker off!
the biggest thing for me though is that these little bikes have saved my sanity over the years,
anyone who's been through the mill in this life will tell you, sometimes its like torture when you cant switch your brain off, when you cant stop thinking and the abyss seems to drag you into madness,
its in these times i've ridden most and my bike has been a saviour of distraction,
sounds even more stupid but even the bikes themselves, sometimes on lifes emotional rollercoaster just knowing and having the security of one piece of metal fits with another piece is a calm solace,
lastly i've gained some of the best friends i've ever had through bmx, kindred spirits even,
away from the pressures of work/age/peers etc too!
this forum too, and all its members,
laugh all you want , i'll laugh with you because,
i cannot actually expain why,
but i love these little bikes.
-
I recon you could write something for Ride Joe :daumenhoch:
-
so mr kick303, are you anyone we know?
wouldn't have thought so Trev...I'm a stevenage boy so was educated at Bowes Lyon park and the mighty Knebworth.
Used to ride with some world champs in and around herts and london mainly with a few excursions here and there...Nick Lacey (MCS rider) , Ollie Mathews, original old skooler Mason Smith, Richard toyota jeep Brown (did hear a rumour Rich has passed on but hope its just that..a rumour), Dave (Chilli) from Kettering (rampchild these days) when he came down to play...and countless others. Seeing Phil Dolan ride in the flesh gave me goosebumps and he had a guy in tow who always had the best looking bike...cant remember your name but last time i saw you (94/95) you were riding a tricked out trickstar..
Best moment at bowes was a casual ramp jam in 91 just after the KOV at Shepton mallet where Gerry Galley was just letting off..I remember him hitting a tree at one point OUCH...we asked if he was ok and he just said it would hurt tomorrow and preceded to hurt himself some more....dedication? madness? compulsion? whatever it is i give respect in return to anyone who is prepared to sacrifice a little pain for a lot of pleasure..
Cheers for the site guys & darkersomeday ...I totally agree.....i love these little bikes.

ill explain joe, for me , these bikes take me back to a fun time, with no stress, just fun every day :4_17_5: these little bikes, are the best, every time i ride one , i feel 12 again, :daumenhoch:
-
, webdawg was trying to make me come for a bit, the focus was on gay bmxers,
get a room :2funny: :2funny:
not really had many bmx crashes{touch wood} a couple on mtbs the one that allways sticks in my mind was dale goodwin jumping a car on a local tv news show and landing gob first into his bars, then the interveiwer asked him what hapened and he mumbled something through a god full of blood :2funny: it still makes me laugh now as i'm typing.
the best memories are just riding around wakey town centre seeing someone on a bmx going over chatting, swapping stories ,admiring the bikes. getting home from school straight out on the bike upto the local pit stacks building jumps out of anything you could rustle up,there was a massive drop at the local pit which was christened big berther{nosnod will remember this} riding up and down that jumping out of the top doing tables, awesome times.

I wasn't much of a rider BITD, somethings never change, so not many big crash stories to relate, but some good stories I think none the less:
Small table top jump with tyres piled up to jump over Wayne Brooks lands flat on his MKII Super Tuff snapped
the chain stays away from the bottom bracket, think he hurt is nuts too.
Same jump, there seems to be some confusion who it was, I think it was James Greetan, my mate Wayne says
it wasn't, it was someone else, the memory is cloudy, but the clear bit:
Compund fracture of leg, bone sticking out of trousers. Seemed to take ages (remember when we didn't have cell phones) for someone to ride to his house (on a bmx, not fast) and get his folks, then they drove down to see him, then one of them drove off to phone an ambulance, which took ages to arrive, have to come about 8 miles. poor chap, squealed like a pig.
BMX gang, me and three mates, up to Walton woods to find the roman baths, they are underneat a much later round building. Anyway, dumped bikes in a pile,. wandered off looking. after about an hour found the baths just up from where we left the bikes. Got bored returned to bikes to find them gone. But not far, followed the tyre
tracks in hthe mud, they'd been moved a hundred yards up the track. Recover bikes, see dogs, here chap shout
oy this is private property, pedal like mad, here the shotgun, he wasn't shooting at his he fired in the air, but it
made one of my mates lose control and crash, I turned to see him fall over just after the shot, and you can imagine
what I thought. anyway he got up, we got away clean...well, we needed clean pants.
my best ever jump, 4 barrels lay on their side on a mki burner. five barrells saw me eat dirt big time.
