Title: Aero zytecs help and info PLEASE
Post by: d14vd_h on November 21, 2005, 03:44 PM
Hi guys, im new on the forum and relatively new to bmx scene,
ive been active on the burner forum for a few months.
ive acquired a set of aero zytec wheels form allans that were slightly yellowed.
im in the process of bleaching them, i was wondering if anyone could tell me whether i can expect these to come up bright white or if they were originally a more ivory/bone colour. i heard on the grapevine they might never have been as bright as skyways in the first place and i dont want to get my expectations up!
been in bleach for almost a week already.
thanks in advance!!!!

if you have used cheap bleach forget it.

if you have used 25 quid worth of domestos you might be in with half a chance.

thanks for ure reply,
i keep getting contrasting views on this one,
some say supermarket own brand thick bleach is stronger than domestos
but on here domestos seems to be the thing.
can u tell me what the difference is and why domestos is more effective?

dont know. the ruler ( member on here) has just dyed a set of white zytecs used cheap bleach and they did not change much. as you can pick them up for 30 quid or so, he decided that is wasnt worth the expense of posh bleach, but then again he is a gypsy. plugwit has used domestos on a set of yellows that have been in a greenhouse for the last 15 years, and he is jumping around telling me how good they look every 5 minutes.

cool cool,
well i'll give j sainsburys own brand another few days then swap over to domestos,
not bothered about the expense cos although the zytecs were a bargain before the bleach costs the fun is in the resto for me!!
if anyone knows about the bleach or zytecs let me know!!!

I've got a couple of pairs, and neither of them are brilliant white. I think you're on the money with the ivory colour  ;)

thanks gmac.
im unsure where i came accross that info, but it seems likely. although strange that they would produce them in that colour.
i think i may try and sell them to someone looking to dye them and put the cash towards some brilliant white skyways unless i hear different from someone else.
thanks mate.

LOL
i used cheap bleach, and they did look slightly less yellowed, but still only "bone" colour

they are never bright white to begin with though. so they look ok

i only paid 20 quid for mine (new) so it wasnt worth the 25 quid on bleach. i bought tescos own cheap weak stuff.

try it and see how you get on.

Just to let everyone know, I bleched a front White alloy hub Tuff II, used Domestos & it pitted the alloy hub, I think the Bleach attacked the alloy. :(
Thing is tho you can always use the Bleach again after ;)

hair bleach is cheap dude, about £4 for 200ml of peroxide and 200g of powder, enough to do wheels 4 times at least

recently done two brown white tuffs, used bleach n scubbed like a mutha' got them half clean, in the end i bought some 60% peroxide and some white bleach powder from a hairdressing suppliers (not the blue powder cos it doesnt lift as well) hung the tuffs on the clothes line mixed the bleach and brushed it on,keep stirring and applying the left over mixture as they hang as this will keep it active longer. leave for at least 45 mins and rinse, you may need to repeat this a few times but it works a treat. approx 70g of powder and 70mls of peroxide to do two wheels once,  200ml of 60% peroxide (not the cream type) and 200g of bleach powder for about £4. they are gonna ban 60% peroxide soon, so get it while ye can.
