Lightweight!! I do that most nights on my exercise bike without even breaking into a sweat!! You'll just have to try harder. May I suggest a nice 24-mile amble on Sunday http://www.cottagehospice.org.uk/cycle07.html Go on, you know you want to. Humps
PS: Just done my 20 minutes with 7.55k so must have been taking it easy tonight. What's your instrument of torture?? Mine's a Body Sculpture BC1510 with Odyssey Thermal 41 bars, Crank Bros Mallet C pedals and 140mm cranks ;)

Its not new Dan, I had a stint of about 6 weeks using it when I first got back on a bike, about 3 years ago, but because I was riding more regular back then I didn`t feel I needed the exercise bike as well, but now I`m back to only riding a couple of hours on a Sunday I thought I`d better start using it to get ready for the 40+ cruiser class I`m going to be riding, start on the press ups tomorrow too :daumenhoch:

Sounds better specced than your race bike Al :LolLolLolLol:
-
What's all this talk of training?
I'd better up my game over winter if people are training for 40+ next season!
;)
-
Good on ya :daumenhoch:
I've decided to get an exercise bike for the winter. Was going to get a turbo trainer, but the missus said she won't use it. So exercise bike it is then ::)
-
Just done my press-ups, two sets of 10 then one set of 12, and fook me its even hard to type :crazy2:

They soon get easier, I do 40 in a go in the morning and evening, and try and do about 5 miles on my bike at least twice a week. All I need to do is quit the cigs now and I will be kicking arse in the winter series

Yeah I know they get easier, I was doing 2 sets of 15 then a set of 20 about a year ago, but once you miss a couple of sessions it gets hard again, mind you I do use those push up bars because my wrists hurt otherwise, so you already start about 8 inches off the floor, then extend right down so that your nose touches the floor :crazy2:
-
24 mph average bill thats fast i mean pro rider fast  i do spinning twice a week and circuit training once a week and get out for 30 milers when i can , and would struggle to keep that speed up for 20 mins on anything but a totally flat surface , you need more resistance mate , go to a couple of spinning classes youll get the idea of how to train indoors :daumenhoch:

Yeah I must admit that was only on no. 4 of 10, I used to be able to do more on no.5 but have let it slide for quite a while :(
-
Best training for me is just riding my bike as much as possible.
I'm gonna try to ride 2 classes at every race I attend over winter as I did that at Bournemouth and it hurt at the time, but I felt good/stronger afterwards.
-
I'm back in Winter training too, cycling as much as possible on weekends, then Tues and Thursday eves run to the gym, do weights and run back home 2 miles each way. Sunday down at MK then a nice long run in the evening with my sis as pacemaker.
Hooga ,drop the fags and you'll really notice a difference. I did about 3 weeks ago now. I haven't wanted one since but I had to lock myself in the house for the first week in case I attacked someone.
PS Spliffs don't count ;D

I managed to quit for six months, but it was smoking weed that got me hooked again :LolLolLolLol:
-
Did my second session tonight at 8.45, did 20 mins but I have no idea how far or fast it was because the computer bit on it is fooked :knuppel2:
-
bill you should go to some spinning classes and learn about the heart zones and how to build and develop your training sessions at home or on the road , they have benefited my health no end before i went i was pretty sure i was at a decent level of fitness doing regular long rides and circuit training but i was suprised how much the classes helped my riding , its hard to get motivated on you own to work , really you should aim to be training for around 45 mins , it takes 10- 12 mins for your body to reach threshold where you can really train where it counts , TBH i get more out of the classes now than i do on the road
visit www.indoorgroupcycling.com for more info on cycling training and the heart zones :daumenhoch:
-
I`ll have to see if there are any closer to me, I`ll have a look at my local gym :daumenhoch:
-
Get yourself a good ol set of rollers or a Turbo Bill. Get yourself fit first, before you start putting your heartrate through the roof. Stick to 65% of your max heartrate to fat burn and for conditioning (not saying your fat!) get your heartrate up when you start interval training nearer the start of the season and you have a good base fitness.
And dont forget loads of Guinesss ;)
-
Gary, Bill's training today consisted of a 24-mile amble on his new cruiser and when I left him I think he said something about a lap of honour!! ;) Humps
-
I`m having a bit of trouble staying awake now ::)
-
I'm havin trouble sittin down now, a Kashimax for 24 miles is sooooooooooo not the way forward :LolLolLolLol:
-
Well I`ve managed to stay awake whilst making myself a roast dinner, so hopefully it will give me a bit more energy :LolLolLolLol:
-
have a nap .it will help aid your recovery and get them muscles growing.
-
What cruiser did you get bill?

Fook me whens it start to get a bit easier :crazy2:
I`m working my bollocks off every other day on the exercise bike, but I still couldn`t make it all the way around the Herne Bay track last week :(
-
Billy
BMX is a sprint based discipline and you are doing cv work, it will make you fitter but not help with sprinting 400m or so that makes up a bmx race
you need to do sprints (outside on the bike you race) a couple of times a week, this will build your explosive power and help your recovery rate
Remember, sprinters dont run marathons in training :daumenhoch:
:) DINGO :)
-
following on from dingo,it's also about upper body strengh, your shoulders and arms are pulling & pushing too.
priv
-
I used to do 20 sprints on a long steep hill from a standing start each night, i'd also alternate daily with a gym session working on upper body strength and a 8 mile ride the other nights. I'd usually practise at a track saturdays then race 20" and cruiser on a sunday at every meet, sometimes with only a 3 moto break in between classes :crazy2:
Went unbeaten for nearly 3 years so must have worked tho :daumenhoch:
The trick to it is the sprinting and explosive power but the upper body strength needs work as it assists in the control of the bike :daumenhoch:

Yeah but you were never 42 years old Nik :(
I`m doing sprints in with my training, it`s the sprints that get my heart rate up to 173 bpm
-
I suppose I better start thinking about doing some training before next season :-\
-
Have another stella and consider all this good advice would be my advice :daumenhoch:

I'm going to France for a week in Feb to ride tracks and trails. That should be good training.
I'd rather jump stuff and come near the back than come near the front but not jump owt.
-
Don`t be getting too fit Mike :LolLolLolLol:
That sounds like fun in France though :daumenhoch:
-
Find a nice hill and sprint DOWN it. It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that spin!!!!!!!!
Now that's a Pro-tec top tip for free.

All in good time my 'ol mukka. I got a plan see...........
-
I got a plan see...........
..... which starts with getting rid of two and a half tons of American muscle?? See it's gone from the avator so has it gone in reality too?? Now just explain to us what possessed you to buy it Tim?? :uglystupid2: And your training starts when!!?? Humps ;)
-
Can't get a thing past you can I Sherlock Humps. Yes, the beast had to go. Got tired of fixing it after every run!!!! Got my money back though so all's well. The guy who bought it is planning a full custom with bouncy hydraulics and flame thrower exhausts!!!!! He's moving back to his native New York in Spring and he's taking it with him. Nutter's just paid 10,000 bills for a $3000 car. Cheers.
Training resumes minus the twice weekly two tonne car push regime. Didn't much care for that part of my training schedule anyway.
-
Fook me that was hard work, first bit of training for a month due to the flu ect. and thats nearly killed me, no cramp though so the stretching must be working at least :daumenhoch:
