Okay, like probably a lot of you I've been watching this one with interest, especially as I knew Alex was looking for one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280157971754&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018
With 12 hours left to run what do you reckon it's going to make at the end of the auction (note that it hasn't even cleared reserve yet!) ??

£285 is my guess ;)

i'm all out a $1k :daumenhoch:

Fanatic! :LolLolLolLol:
-
I think I said $500 on the other thread about it. I will stick with that.
(although that still might not make the reserve?)
-
Seems a lot of cash when even the yanks can't tell if it's the genuine article ???

i'm not bidding like! :LolLolLolLol:
i heard somewhere that moeller was having a bid on it!
-
I put a couple of bids in (max $450) just to see if the reserve was met and it wasn't, so I reckon $500. No idea what it will get to though. Maybe Moeller himself is watching it ready to swoop, just like Mat Hoffman bought his bike back in the Stephen Murray auction.
Good luck you guys who are bidding on it :daumenhoch:
-
Joe, are you reading my mind today?!
-
All these S&M band wagon jumpers! I bet they had never even heard of the K9 D-zine frame till this year ::)
Im not sure this frame had and any true S&M links made to it. Just that it WAS made by CBR ... and so were the very very first S&Ms.
-
If you're not sure about it then I reckon the rest of us better not risk it (way too dear for me anyway!)
Could be the ultimate mid-schooler though it if was real though :daumenhoch:

Surely this is old school isn't it?
That's what's cool about S&M - it transcends OS, MS and present day.
-
I had a bid of 440 on it, but wasnt really that interested in purchasing it lol
I did the same as dialled and put in such an offer just to see if i could meet reservation price.
S&M does seem to be the new hutch for midschool.
-
I think if it does sell it will be for just under 800 dollars ... but no one is really sure if this is a real s&m
-
Looks good to me...

When Chris and Greg started S&M, did they take frame drawings to Cook Brothers and say "make these" or were those early frames basically Cook Brothers frames which were customised to meet Chris and Greg's requirements?
If the latter, I can understand the confusion as to whether the one on Ebay is an S&M Mad Dog or a Cook Brothers frame.
But it certainly looks like a Mad Dog when compared to the few pics of Mad Dogs I have seen.
-
I can't bid that much $$ without being 100% sure. I heard this ebay one had a TT of 18.5". Then a guy that has one says his TT is 19.25"?
-
I think the first "S&M frames" were modifications of Cooks bros frames.
*That frame on Ebay DOESNT have a chain stay brace at the BB. Every other pic of a Mad Dog Ive seen has got one.
*That frame on Ebay has got single dropouts, and I thought that all the early ones had doubled up dropouts (I could be wrong)
Non of that stops it being an early S&M proto type, an early Mad Dog or a K9 D-zine. The forks sure look like Mad dog forks (even tho they are single drop outs)
-
So what's really needed is an expert in later Cook Bros framesets? If they could say 'Nope, it's not a CBR' then we'd be almost certain??
-
Someone on another forum (whos user name was "CookBros. Fool") said it is DEF a Cook bros 20" (Jack W. special).
Then someone else posted these pics; totally the same frame. They said this black frame was a Mad Dog, but who knows if it wasnt just another Cook bros 20" (Jack W. special).

well I did have another go ... and I have no idea why .... lol
I entered a number of $520 and I still didnt meet the reserve price.
So I have no idea what this is meant to sell for ..
-
Its still saying $455 from here?
Maybe its cos you are in another county YGT??? :LolLolLolLol:
-
I reckon it's going to make around $650, as even if it's not a M.D you can guarantee it'll be worth that sum to a CBR collector (a lot of dough for the boys stateside considering how weak the dollar is)

Yikes, you really want to bring that frame 'n fork over to Europe heh? :4_17_5:
-
whats all the ....... stuff against names
are they ebay names or edited
-
Yikes, you really want to bring that frame 'n fork over to Europe heh? :4_17_5:
ebay hides names now when it gets over a certain ammount ........
I didnt really want the frame but figured the dollar is so low at the moment its basically no cash at all.
I also wanted to see if the reserve was at 500 us dollars (which it wasnt) ..... so if anyone on here wants to bid on it, please do.
I basically bid on it to amuse my curiosity as the dollar is so low.
-
i would bid on it but
-
i would bid on it but
but what?
-
Oh, YGT. Im with you now. Are you saying you are winning the bididng???
:4_17_5: Nice one if you are. You never know, he might contact you after its over and work out a deal off ebay.
Are you sure its a Mad Dog, or not worried either way?

technically I am winning, but since the reserve has not been met then no one is winning.
basically I put down a price of 520 us dollars (£250) , but since no one (including myself) has met the reserve, then the person whos bidding behind me has there bid shown plus maybe 5 dollars more with me in the lead (untill the reserve is met).
No I am not sure it a mag dog / but even so its an interesting frame to have (in regards to maybe history / not looks ... the rear brake bridge looks like shit).
I basically bid because I was bored and it was like gambling for me ... maybe I would win it and then have to pay the cash out for it (no problem) or maybe I wouldnt .....
I am not in love with this frame so this is why i havent bid more for it.
I basically bid to see if i could make the reserve (and i didnt)
We will see if the seller contacts me later ......
But let me make this clear to everyone, if anyone wants this please feel free to bid on it.
I wont try to outbid any of you, i simply bid because i could :)
Mark
-
Good on ya Mark, nice one for trying. I hope you get to work out a deal after.
I think if the guy has got that high a reserve on it, then he is either hoping a little high, or he dont wanna sell it and it just testing the water.
£250 is way more than I can pay for any frame, esp in that condition. If it was good paintwork and a good set of decals I might be more tempted but there is still work and money to go on it. Still, it does have the forks with it ......
A set of mad dog decals did come up the other week but they went for £40.
-
sorry mark i just got back in
the but was its a little early for me as in an area i no nothing about my gap years
1989/1992 so it would be better going to someone who had a clue or who can relate
to it more i wouldnt do it justice.
i only got the dirt bros to save its skin even thats on my edge of memories.
-
I know of 3 serious S&M collectors in the US. Wouldn't be suprised to see one of them in there at the end too. Haven't seen too many things on ebay make such a stir. I like when stuff like this appears.
-
i like the frame and forks, but i dont know much early sm history.
i hope it is genuine and it lands in good hands
-
anyone else watching this finish? how exciting on a friday night
is the brake plate different on tat one ron? the auction one has the cook bros double brake plate,
you having a bid jacob? :LolLolLolLol:
-
I dont think it will move ... or if it does, it wont go above the reserve.
-
Unsold. I wonder what the reserve was.
-
I dont think the seller wanted to sell. He was just seeing what it would bid up to.
