Looking for a bit of info. Got 2 sets of Mrd bars pro size, one set braized , one set tig, both identical other than the tig set are slightly angled down at the ends. But this may have been done due to heavy riding. Has anybody got any idea when they swapped over on the welding front from tig which I assume are the early bars ( from what I have been told) to being braized like the frames. Also does anybody know who made the early bars? Was rumoured they were Star Bars rebadged but we have disproved that one.
-
Wasn't aware Tim had any welded bars, are you sure they're not Stars? Tim just took the Stars to Rickman and got them to copy the for his brazed MRD's. I'm seeing him tomorrow so i'll see what I can find out for you mate.
That's if he can remember of course!
-
animal, tim's here now, he defo never made anything welded, everything was brazed by the rickman guys, sounds like you have stars mate. Piccy?
-
A piccy of said bars. Any ideas?

mmm, i'd say NOT stars as stars had a wider bottom section (going further away from the stem before they went into the rise) and I reckon stars had a slightly lower rise than these. i'll get the big fella to take a look, i can't get him out of me shop at the mo, he must be bored.....
BTW Tim works just around the corner from my shop so he comes in for his tea's..........
-
Looking again, they might be GT pro's? Stars and GHP bars had quite a lot of sweep on them too, those bars look quite sweepy.
Like I said Tim said defo not MRD, he only ever made brazed stuff.
-
Didn't think the crossbar was fat enough for Gt pro's. :-\
-
se ???
-
Hutch :-X
-
What about Torker? ::)
-
What about Torker? ::)
Can't see pic for some reason but I have a set of torkers if you want me to get ya the measurements, proper skinny crossbar on em :)
-
Cross Bar is 16mm in diameter or 5/8 of an inch. Could they be any of the above?

Sound like torkers, just measured me crossbar looks bang on 16mm.
-
Right a bit more info to c if we can nail these bars down. ::)
Cross bar width is 295mm
Underside of crossbar to top of clamp tube is 145mm
Width is 28 inches uncut
could somebody measure up some SE's and Hutch to do a comparison? :daumenhoch:
-
I'd say too square at the bottom to be Hutch bars mate.....i still reckon GT's but lets see if someone can identify for sure
-
Early unstamped Kuwahara Laserbars made by Nitto?
bodamus :-\
-
crossbar on me torkers is wider n GT pros are about 300 mil with 160 mil underside to clamp the search continues
-
here's some unstamped kuwi bars, ignore the apparent knurling as this is only marks from a stem

Looks like we have a match, fantastic, it appears I now own a set of Kuwi bars ::) Are they rare? :-\ Never seen a set in the flesh till I got these. I take it everybody agrees they look the same? Did u check the measures Frosy? If not could somebody so I deffo know for sure? :daumenhoch:
Just for the record they are virtually identical to MRD bars :LolLolLolLol:
-
Well done me then :coolsmiley:
Yes there worth a fair bit got a few sets myself still.
bodamus ;)
-
i had a set on my kuwi but kinda forgot what they looked like
and havent seen many sets since as ian has most of them ;)
-
What they worth? ::) Take it they are quite rare?
These probably need a rechrome cos they got a couple of scratches in the normal place where somebody has crashed head first say no more. :LolLolLolLol:
Many thanks to all especially the dudes who got it right :daumenhoch:
-
mr turner was after a set of them i think.
-
they don't look the same to me, the kuwis sweep up n yours don't by them pics
-
tis tricky without seeing them all in the flesh. The angle of the photo will have course make a difference to how the sweep appears too.
-
I thought that as well
are they wings ?
you got a photo of the bend at the bottom of the bars , se wings bend is pretty distinct
Rich
-

Great pics above. Really helpful!
I got a set of bars on a mongoose Cali that i bought recently. The guy was told that they are GT Pro bars when he got them. They have no knurling or stamp on them. What is noticable is the top tube is considerably thinner that the other tubes. Any ideas without a piccy? Please help!
-
bottom bars in the first pic above are unstamped pro's
-
Is the top tube thinner than the rest though?
-
most the of the tubes are thinner, but if you look at the profile bars they do appear to have a larger section crossbar.
-
Frosty didn't you buy a set of MRD bars last year? ;)
-
Yes but they are brazed ones
-
i wouldnt say there kuwie bars .. gt bars /star bars more looking to me .. have u got some measurements ????
-
measures above in thread
-
Welding is very sweet on these bars, DazBmx says they maybe Wheels bars? Anybody else got any ideas?
Personally I think they may be Hutch. Anybody got any pics?
