this has always been a bit of a grey are for me:
Is it possible to run a normal square taper crank from a mtb/road bike in a bmx frame with U.S sized BB shell?
Basically would the standard mtb spindle, work with a standard loose ball bmx bottom bracket set ?
I always thought the spindles were different, but this guy in a bike shop told me they were exactly the same.
I havent had a chance to try it out, but can anyone clear this up?
-
try it!
you'd think they were the same, once the US shit is screwed onto them
-
i'll look into that. i'll have a play at work with some old stuff thats lying around.
personally i'll be really surprised if it does work, surely if it did work people would have been doing it for years

im running a sealed bottom bracket in me boys turbolite of a mountain bike so yes works if its euro bb

obviously that would work!
Im trying to find out if a spindle from a euro bb setup is compatible with a us bb setup...
I cant see how it would work personally, but this old guy normally knows his stuff.

so long as the us bearing fit the axle then yes it will work
-
it depends
the key to this is the axle size and the bearing size
not all axles are the same size , and neither are the bearings
so if you got non standard or rather didnt come with the cranks bearings, you should be able , if they make that size bearing ,get any spindle in any BB cup Euro or USA
it makes sense to me anyway

DMR wondercups enable you to use a euro BB in a US BB frame :) thus enabling you to use MTB cranks. :daumenhoch:
