Just back from Clydebank, the first round of the Scottish Winter OS Series. I think a lot were put off by the dull weather which, thankfully came to nothing. Ideal race conditions, dry, no wind and not too hot. Four riders for our first race, myself, Stevo, paulo & David Wright. I was on my 'Goose, Stevo was on his blinging Skyway T/A, paulo was on his Californian and David was on his Redline PL24. We're allowing cruisers in this series to help boost numbers. This rule might change if David keeps winning ;D
Some really close racing took place with races won or lost by only inches, and I'm not exaggerating! Pics will follow soon but in the meantime here is the Series Results per round, and current Points Table :

Hopefully numbers will pick up as they have this side of the border.
Are you running it best so many races count? If not, it looks like that frame has one of those 4 names on it already ;)

Well done for getting this rolling Kenny, its only 12 months ago we started our one in the South with 5 riders. Today, same track, same time of year we had 12 riders, so you can expect it to go from strength to strength :daumenhoch:
I have made this a sticky, as I hope you will be getting 20+ riders by the end of the series :daumenhoch:

Mike, the series will be decided by the top 5 finishes out of the 6 rounds. The 9th December round has double points which could make things interesting ;) More riders have promised to come along but, as always, it's trying to fit the racing into our sensible work/family lives which means some can only make it on certain dates.
I'm sure numbers will pick up though as the wheels are now, quite literally, in motion :daumenhoch:
I based the points on the system used in the South. I was toying with the idea of a pyramid system whereby the more riders who turn up, the more points you can win. The benefit of this system is that riders get a greater reward for winning a race which has more riders in it. The downside is that it doesn't reward those riders who support the series and turn up all the time when turnout is small. Good points and bad points with both systems but I'm happy to go with whatever system the riders want. Paulo, Stevo, David, your views please?

Minor clarification on the results. Last time I checked, David Weir was a wheelchair marathon racer - sorry. I'm David Wright, (some Old Skoolers might remember me from our shop which toured the Scottish BMX scene in the mid 1980s - Ben Pushers BMX, or for my Superclass attempts between about 1987 - 1992).
Hope to see more Old Skoolers at future races.

Guys, it was good to meet you all on Sunday. Props to everyone for organising the event and turning up on the day, especially the 2 Kennys.
Hopefully I will get up the table a bit as Dave (winner on the day) won't be able to make it next Sunday. ;)
I was surprised some of you remembered Blairgowrie's track (Dave Wright raced there). Hope our OS event will grow like my old club was BITD. I am not in this pic but my brother is.

Definately a fab day.
Stick with you're first instincts on the points Kenny. Best 5 makes sense. It's a shame no one took my advice to take it easy on their riders on Sunday. There was some right battles.

Yep, that sounds about right! 8) Kenny and I will be there from around 11am anyway. Weather doesn't look quite as good this weekend so maybe have to cut the chats down to two hours instead of three ;D

Kenny and I will be there from 11am, but registration/gate practice is from 12noon, with racing at 1pm - or whenever we decide to stop chatting and do some riding! ;)

Results now added for Round 2 and Points Table updated. Thanks to paulo, Stevo, Sean and Stella Dave for being able to make it along. A nice sunny day, if a little breezy and damn cold! Discussions are now underway regarding Round 3. Steve will miss Round 3 as he is attending some minor event in Birmingham that weekend ;D and Paul might have work commitments :( Hopefully we will see some new faces though. Kevin Rettie might get permission from his other half to come along :daumenhoch: Mad All was hopeful, and oldschool legend Ali Stewart was also hoping to be able to attend. Not forgetting David W will be making the trek south again, so racing should be as hard as ever.

Im glad to see your series is up and running fella's, your numbers will get bigger for sure but enjoy it while it's small too, it will get bigger and better but you'll always look back at the early days with real pride :4_17_5:
I would love to say I willo come up and have a race with you lot but I just can't promise, keep up the good work and you never know, what with your lot, the midlands lot and us down south, perhaps we could have some sort of OSS show down at MK next year, have a word with Ratty, im sure his arm wont take too much twisting :knuppel2:

I would definately be up for that. Maybe another tie-in with the Brits, although we could always start our own OS Brits at MK with show&shine and other OS attractions. If we could decide on a date and work towards that then I'm sure David, Paulo, Stevo & a few others would be keen to make the trip :daumenhoch:

Hi Mike,
Last weekend was a washout, really windy and heavy rain. We'll get the series back up and running properly this coming Sunday where there should be 5 of us racing - Myself, David W, Stevo, Paulo & Kevin Rettie. Others have shown an interest but are still getting their OS-legal race bikes together, or trying to fit the racing around their work/family lives. I think the recent poor weather and cold has put a few off as well ( bloody fair weather bikers eh!) but I'm sure it will get busier as the weather improves and builds get completed. I've invested in a decent camcorder so hopefully we'll have some race footage from now on as well as the usual pics. There are 3 more rounds to go (including this Sunday). The OS racing has had a knock-on effect of attacting younger riders to the track. They have seen us old schoolers racing around and decided to give it a go themselves. Their parents seem dead keen too which is great. So if there were ever any doubters out there, here's proof that OS Racing isn't just a bunch of self-indulgent old farts reliving their youth - In our case we are actually attracting the (hopefully) new wave of BMX racers. There seems to be a few of teh oldschoolers up here who are into the odd session at Unit 23 indoor skatepark so we might think about having an oldschool jam there at some point if there's enough interest.

Aye, very good. Should have expected that. My absence was actually down to (cue long and elaborate excuse...) borrowing a mate's Volvo S60 which, when attaching the bike rack, I found had a plastic boot lid and no tow hooks to attach the rack to. I was having to hook the rack onto his plastic bumpers. Rather than damage his car or (more importantly) risk damaging my bikes I decided to abort. The weather did make my decision easier though ;) Got myself a Nissan X-Trail now so no such problems in the future :daumenhoch:

i have been watching the postings here and must hand it to you guys for the time and effort you all put in. i actually used to ride to clydebank from dennistoun in about 84? when the original track was built
i live in the clydebank area. i have a supergoose 83 with assorted parts :P. been sitting idle for more than 20 years. :-[
some joint problems (old age?) but was thinking of joining. i will send the £10 to you Kenny if thats ok or am i too late? i guess you will need some funds to help you's along
Hopefully i will pop up and watch. dont know about racing :laugh: i've never raced a track before. just done the jumps really, i was more street,skatepark.livi etc
i however like the idea of what the other OS guys do on a regular basis ,doing their novice/advanced nights at an indoor park or local skatepark. i might go to kelvingrove sometime this year to roll around. what is unit 23 like? do they do novice nights?
ohh and i'm a fabricator/welder. and have access to plant/tools ;) :daumenhoch: within reason of course,i :coolsmiley:

I can't speak for Kenny, but I'm sure he'll welcome you. We were racing today at the track. I'm pretty crap at the racing but it's a really good laugh. We do more talking than racing. Loved to see the goose survivor.
Next OS meeting in 2 weeks, but Kenny is normaly there most Sundays.
The 2 Kenny's do put in a lot of time and do a great job organising the track. Top blokes. :daumenhoch:

Yes, next race is on 10th Feb. Only 2 more rounds to go. I think we'll have double points for the last round, just to make things interesting. Todays results:

We managed to get vids of all three races plus some warm-up gates and stuff. My pc is a bit sick just now having picked up a virus, going very slow, so it's going into the shop to get fixed tomorrow. Hopefully should have it back in a couple of days. I uploaded one of the vids but I had saved them at too high a resolution so it was a bit jumpy. I'll get that sorted and have the vids uploaded asap. Even the one of me wiping out ;D

Nice feeling coming first in 2 of the 3 races for a change. Can't wait until the next meet. Hopefully other riders will come along as well.
Had a good session at Unit 23, considering I hadn't been on ramps since last November. One of the younger riders there told me there is now a indoor park at Ocean Terminal (shopping centre, Leith) so there is no excuses now for not practising and getting some air. :D

You're getting too good Stevo and challenging Kenny for the title, some great racing was had.
Kenny make sure you include the wipe out in your vids, only for that fact that it meant I was in the lead for at least two and half meters. :LolLolLolLol:

I remember Kenny saying that Kuwahero lives in Livingston and might need a lift to the next meet. I would be happy to pick him up, 2 bikes can fit in the boot no problems.

That's the plan anyway. Hopefully as many of us as possible will be able to wangle the weekend off work and head down. Really looking forward to it. It would be good to come down before MK and maybe pop into one of the north regionals if they're running an oldschool gate. I just need to encourage David W off his cruiser and back onto his 20" ;)

2020mad, is one of the members I was parked next to at MK07 and he let me stay at his place for the Xmas party in December – top bloke. Looking forward to see your new builds you have been talking about.
It would be good to have a group of us to go down for MK08. We can discuss it at the last winter series race on the 24. Interesting to see how David Wright would do since he was Superclass in the 90's.

Only Paulo and myself managed to get to the track today, so we didn't race. We did have some quality practice time on a dry, fast track though! The plan is to run a double-header on 24th instead of double points. Registration will be from 1pm with the first 3 races soon after. We'll have a break then run the next 3 races. If you mess up in the first round it gives you a chance to make amends in the second round. Obviously you don't have to race both rounds if you don't want to. At least this way it will make the final points a bit more interesting.
Trophies/plate etc will be presented after racing :daumenhoch:

It was good fun yesterday. Really fast track as Kenny said. Scared the living daylights out of me. Made the most of the time to practice, so watch out Stevo!!

I wouldn't have minded if you raced for points. My loss for not turning up.
Its good its going to be sudden death on the 24th, rather than a one horse race (Kenny). Makes it a bit more exciting.

Cheers Paul, you obviously didn't see me flip out manualling the third straight doubles then! ;D Thankfully I stayed in one piece. It was a great day today, despite the weather trying to spoil things. Great to see an almost full gate as well. It would have been full if Dave wasn't injured so it's all looking good for the Summer Series. I've just been watching the videos. There's some cracking battles in every race. I'm in the process of uploading them so hopefully I'll have the links posted later this evening. In the meantime, here is a breakdown of all of today's races plus the final series standings. Thanks to all of you who came through on day. Props to the 2 Kennys for organising the event in the first place.
Let's hope we get 7-8 riders on the gate every week for the Summer series.

Thanks for coming along Davie and keeping the score in the cold and wet conditions.
Loved your Supergoose, great survivor bike. Good on you for keeping it for all these years.
Dave's Haro RS1 is a great survivor bike too. Kenny rode it well.
Marc's Kuwahara laser lite is a top bike too. Wear knee pads next time you race, if you want my advice ;)

Yes, I noticed the vidz seem to be a bit jittery on the first viewing but they seem to be okay when you watch them a second tome. Must be down to the video being in your pc's temporary file or something. I'll need to get Stuart a tripod so he can shiver in the cold & wet without it affecting out viewing pleasure :D Good pics Stevo :daumenhoch: I personally like the CW's on your bike, very in keeping with builds of that time.

Thanks for the Vids - they are great to watch, as a reminder, and to try to see what went wrong, (if only we'd had video analysis back in the day, my starts would have been excellent). Anyone watching who wasn't there, the reason we look slow is because of the damp track conditions - not cause we're old and unfit !
Great to see everyone yesterday - it was a really good atmosphere. Hope to see you all later in the year. I favour once every 6 weeks races through the summer, ideally at a number of different tracks, (if we can find them) - say Bathgate, maybe Cumbernauld, and Nairn ?
Thanks to the two Kennys, Stuart, Dave, and everyone else for making it such a good laugh.

Trophies finally landed an hour ago. I've stuck the engraving plates on them so I just need to get some suitable boxes/jiffy bags to post them out. Apologies for the poor focusing. Maybe my wife will agree that I DO NEED that Canon EOS 40D now. Ok, maybe not :( I spoke to Grant from BSD, and Mark from Groove Racing last week. Last I heard Grant was raking out some t-shirts which I was hoping to send out with the trophies. Mark was also going to send some bits & pieces up. And, not forgetting the big prize which should be with me soon, courtesy of Mike at Dialled Bikes! :4_17_5:
