Title: PK freshly anodised # NEW PICS ADDED Pg1 #
Post by: generallee on November 13, 2007, 02:02 PM
My holy grail has always been the early 90's anodised purple pk ripper... and ive now acheived it with a little help...
Here is a sneakpeak of my latest project... paul lawson at Custom Colour Anodising did this for me... he wasnt keen on doing frames, but I begged him and told him not to worry if it didnt come out perfect.. and good on him, he did an amazing job. Paul now says after doing this one he would do others too... just make sure you hand him your aluminium frame already HIGHLY poslihed.. as thats the way to get results... I took off the tatty decals and spent hours polishing with peek and autosol etc...
so - here it is before..
and heres a sneak peak of after....
I have everything to build this, apart from time... but im working on it!

now heres the full frame with the headtube sticker on...

and now all decalled up and ready to go! The frame looks brande new. The dropouts were mnt anyway, but this is without doubt the nicest frame ive ever resto'd!

£50 for the anodising job fellas... amazing value for money. Theres postage both ways on top of that and of course the polishing etc... but worth every penny - it arrives with me today - this photo is what paul took before he sent it!
Will post up more pics when Ive got it!

Steve, that is a good price for the job, I have a nice Race Inc that I was thinking of getting done in candy blue, but maybe an anno job would be a better idea. Did you need to visit to select the colour or did you do it over phone/email?

Cheers

paul

The purple colour is their stock prple anodiseing colour - its perfect and just like the early SE colour they did in the 90's. Check out www.customcolouranodising for a look at their colours, its a basic website but you get the idea of what the colours are like. They can do gold, blue, red, orange, green, clearcoat, purple, etc etc
It takes them a little while to do as they squeeze it in between their industrial mega jobs, but the wait is worth it. I also just got back a pair of alloy Ukai rims that the polished for me - they now look like chrome. Amazing.
Check the thread in the Tech and Restoration Stickies, im sure theres something about custom colour inthere.
cheers!

Very tasty work. Reckon he could fettle this up? I'm worried about the two tone effect! Like the Selector, and Madness though!

Its hard to re-anodise stems cos of the steel shaft: it will desolve in the anodising process. If the shaft comes away from the ally body (like a pro/tuff neck) then its do-able, but the fit might not be as good cos the process will change the hole size a little as it removes a tiny bit of material from the ally.

Apparently the brute wedge doesn't remove! See Redline Proline II thread! Cheers Alex :daumenhoch:

the steel bar can be masked off with this tape we have got,  its acid proof so as long as the ali is anodisable then its ok with the bar in :daumenhoch:

What about inside the stem steel shaft, or are the parts not submerged in acid??

Nice job there Steve...
Very good price too.

The quote I gave you a while back was for all the polishing & a 3 week turnaround door to door. Taking it there & back by hand no postage.... Just thought I needed to clear that up.

Re; the tape/redline stem question?

Yes it can be done.
Lead tape (for roofing) is the trick...Approx £100 a roll.
Plus you have to plug up the holes..
