Just Wondered if there was a main reason? :daumenhoch:
-
i raced my mongoose cali at mk :daumenhoch:
-
most likely cos top tubes are only 18.5" or so
most seem to prefer the late 80's frames were TT's were increasing
-
If i could afford one I would race it ... would certainly be more fun than my Halfords appollo!!!!!!!!!
-
I only started racing a Month or so ago and noticed that there werent really any of them racing, where as back in the day there were quite a few, thought it might be the frame strength or something like that?? :-\
-
As Kev said it's mainly to do with the top tube length. They're just too short for racing in anger unless you're around the 5ft mark. The reason that a lot of the bikes are now late 80's and early 90's is that the top tube lengths are more manageable.
I have a work collegue that rekons he used to ride a 23" top tube DB when he was 10 and it was also made out of Carbon Fibre. :2funny:
-
So its a Tube SIZE issue then :2funny:
nothing changes ::)
-
I thought there were a few 'Gooses, or Geese :D being raced in the last few series'. I'm racing jimwise's old Supergoose with no problems - It probably helps that I'm 5'9" but even my newschool race bike only has a 20.5" toptube. Just whack a long stem on and a layback post :daumenhoch:
-
i will start racing next year and will be riding a 81 mongoose that ive just put together :daumenhoch:
-
Steve vinoah has raced a diamond back for over a year now and won the OSWS06 number 1 plate on it. BMX796 races a mongoose cali most of the time. Quadpaul races an 18" top tube GT with a fair amount of wins under his belt... I race a 21" top tube bike, but mines a 1981 bike, not a late one. :daumenhoch:
-
Dont think i've met some of the guys you've mentioned Tony yet,so that explains why i havent seen any of the bikes raced ::)
Looking foward to seeing them from behind then sometime soon :2funny:
-
you wont miss 796, he will be the one trying to put you over the nearest berm >:D :2funny:
-
What again??? :2funny: :2funny:

Now why can't we have quotes like that on the shout panel? :2funny:

And don't forget jimiwise he races a mongoose as well :daumenhoch: there's been some lovely bikes racing in the osss like pro-tecs GHP which is the very same machine he used 22 years ago right down to the grips etc....flaz's kuwi.....some robinsons......ratty and fiola's redline's.....hooga's lovely hutch....some P.K's.....a race inc......a torker......and of course my lovely B-U-R-N-E-R :4_17_5:
-
Yep i think its just a case of not everybody has raced recently..some lovely bikes being run :daumenhoch:
-
Although not anymore, but SE Mark also ran 2 different DB HL Turbo's last season. But now he's on some old piece of crap :LolLolLolLol:
-
I can't believe its mostly a tube thing... i was 6' when i finished racing in 1985 (real life job commitments) and my early Aero Pro Burners & GT still fit a beaut... i'm just 5 stone heavier thats all :2funny:
I snapped and bent a fair few frames 'n' forks' BITD with crazy jumping and awkward lands,so you can imagine,i'm crapping myself at the thought of racing one of the old bikes carrying an extra 5st!
If i had a classic goose or a Kuwa,i'd prob want to do it up - not risk racing it. I know i feel that way with my old GT i'm building right now... so the Burner may get an outing in 08 as i see that as the cheapest and easiest option (and doesnt matter if it gets hammered)
-
We all think that our old bikes we used to ride 20 years ago are ok until you ride/race/jump a new skool bike or cruiser then you realise how awkward your old bike is :P trouble is that bitd thats all we new and had so didn't know any better.
-
Tracks are also about 10 times more technical/bigger than the 80s, so the angles of old school bikes don't make them feel that stable on these new school tracks.
The OS bikes are great fun to race against people on other OS bikes, but if people wanna progress they need to ride new school bikes and learn new school skills (manualling/jumping doubles, getting through rythm sections, etc).
-
Tell me about it ::) :LolLolLolLol:

Buckmore Bat races on a supergoose as well in OS and does very well on it.
