This isn't an excuse for everyone to start showing us yer Choppers :D
-
i had all of them.
boxers were good for folding the front rubber mudguard flap, under itself so it rubbed on the tyre and made a motorbike noise.
i also had a tomohawk, that me dad bought me, my first bike, already unfashionable by the time i got one, but me mate had one and i thought it was cool as fook. my dad also fixed the centre console from a mark 3 cortina to the crossbar so i could get chips fromm the chippy on it.
i ran that set up for about a year...when i took it off, it was like pedalling on air.......you didnt realise how far you had to open your legs to get round a mk3 cortina console.
now thats a line i never thought id type.....
-
that tomahawk is a late one. the early ones had the high back seat.
i was gutted that mine had the low back
it meant it didnt have the white strap over it thyat said this bike is not designed for passengers, which was always handy for not givin backy's as it was "illegal"
-
The Mk3 console
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Did it have a Fag lighter an ashtray ???
and did you have one o' them stick on ball type compass'
and a Feu Orange :smitten:

that was the discerning mans air freshener.

-
someone was selling the commando at car boot couple of months ago but he wanted £60 for it so i didnt bother.
was in ok condition, how much would it be worth?

Learned to jump on my sisters Striker because it was way cooler than my purple Commando. Then got a silver Grifter, what a machine ;D oh and then an Ultra Burner Mk1 which was pretty natty at the time.
Always hated Choppers because they were good for nowt in my eyes hard to jump and shit for wheelies >:D
Bombers are another hateful thing while I'm on the subject.
-
Raliegh Bummers
I seem to think the bars were a bit more like Cowhorn type than this , unless I'm wrong
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/u24/hunterdubber/0.jpg)
Oh and I REALLY REALLY wanted one o' these,
but they were too big for me :'(
Come to think of it they're still too big for me >:(

More of a closet fanatic
I don't own a single Raleigh, do I :crazy2:
-
My first bike was a Budgie, purple it was. Then I got a Tomahawk, early one with the high back seat. About the same time I got a Yamaha TY80 and the push bikes didn't hold the same sort of appeal anymore. I was only 5 though.
-
What were the differences between a mk1 and mk2 Grifter? I've never heard of that before......
-
got a budgie here that was mine as a kid that i hardly used ,which i `m going to let my kid have a go and yep got a tommahawk here that i found 5 years ago which i still haven`t done anything with .
and as a kid i did a air on a strika on a quarter which fun and easy to jump of ,used to love the noise they made
-
i still keep looking for a raleigh record and raleigh bomber to add to my collection
-
I still have my Budgie from way back  :smitten: :-[

Are Raleigh Commando's worth anything ?
I saw one with the camo paintwork in our local tip during the summer, it looked okay, but I was with the wife and I knew I'd get the 3rd degree if I took it, so I left it where it was...... :(
-
anyone wants a Strika I got a Red one.
needs tyres and tubes and there's an issue with the free wheel...it's f***ed.
£10 if you can collect from cov/banbury/Watford
(the seat is in great complete condition, same as a mkii Grifter seat, so worth £10 on it's own)

Not to sure how much really ive seen them go for varying prices on ebay...would have been worth saving tho , they've got to be pretty rare.

I had a boxer then a striker.................................... :smitten:
-
i had a chipper, grifter and a bomber, the bomber forks lasted about 3 days before i bent them gettin all gnarly over a tree stump, got some straight ones made after that

As for the Cortinas my Dad has had 2 Mk1's a 1600E and a Lotus Mk2 ( in one year :idiot2: ) Probably the same year he bought and sold 29 cars (3 in a week)
just his hobby mind  , he wasn't a car trader , just got bored quick
He was like the MADDOGG of the classic car world ;D
-
Red MKI Grifter for me Chris, before that it was just a case of make your own sort of thing, raid the shed, nick some of our kids stuff and build a bike. Top laugh as well, some of the contraptions we used to make!

Metallic paint and F&F all same colour, rear mudguard, seat was made from a different plastic that you couldn't pull chunks from, probably a few more I'm sure.
Daz. :daumenhoch:
-
Oh yeah. Those seats used to split in half. I went through loads of em on mine from sitting right on the back doing wheelies :)
-
i had a boxer, with a water bottle, home made steel plate number plate and mirrors. the seat was mashed as mentioned above and the stem bent 90degrees after jumping 12 barrels aged 8. :LolLolLolLol:

I do love the old choppers, my 2 are at the front of of the pic in this line up on the launch day of the MK3 chopper
