Hi guys, i was reading today that Skyway are releasing a 25th anniversary model TA exact copy of thr original etc etc frame set only in 2008 150 models worldwide does anyone know any more about this at all, i would be dead interested if they do.
-
i ordered one of these but cancelled . contact coloured tuffs on here his name is edd and is a sound guy
-
cheers do you know what the price was supposed to be or did they not release that.
-
My name is down for one of these but I haven't heard a thing for months now. :'(
I hope the project is still on the cards.
-
I reckon they will all be gone by the time i get round to it ?
-
i forget what they were now i think $300 or so but i could be wrong
-
Iv got my name down for one, for some reason $500 shipped comes to mind :-\
But it was a long time ago ::)
I think they were meant to be here in June :(
-
$500 sounds familiar.
I don't mind waiting as long as I still get it.

Well..... here's is the very first one that was welded up!
Yes, this project has taken some time, but I'd rather wait and get it done the right way, with the people that I really want to help me on this!
So.... things are now coming together nicely! Here is ABA Hall Of Famer, Greg Esser, our welding master with the first "original" T/A to come out of his shop. As some of you may know, Greg Esser was the very first NBL National #1 Pro here in the States. His family also founded the NBL, and MCS Bicycles. Greg has been welding frames forever, and I wanted him to do the job, as he was also a Skyway factory racer back in the late 70's-early 80's.
Greg suffered a heart attack a few months ago, but he's back to feeling great, and delivered this frame to me a few weeks ago.
The frame and fork set is now going through QC over at Skyway. Once it's appoved, we'll begin building the remaining frames. Once we have the first 50 sets made, I'll begin to go through the email list to contact people that are on it.
Happy New year everybodY!

Oh yeah...
Our target price is $500 US dollars for this set. We'll finalize everything once we know the total cost for everthing (Tubing sets, shipping, welding cost, powder coating, boxes, packing material, etc!)
-
Cool. Will you be doing any chrome frames or just white ones?
Matt :daumenhoch:
-
We are doing white for certain. We are looking into the possibillity of chroming some, but we know that will be expensive. Good chrome is hard to find here in Florida, so we would have to ship them out. Greg knows someone that will be giving us a quote if they can do it.
Another factor is finding tube sets that are polished already. Tubing that is not polished previously will look like crap most of the time if you try to chrome it. If you notice in the photo above, the rear of the frame uses pre-polished tubing, where the front triangle is raw. We need to go through the tubing to see if we can match complete sets of polished tubing.
-
I'm glad to know the project is moving on, Ed. I look forwards to the finished article. :daumenhoch:

ed
do you know if they are all allocated?
is there any chance i could be added to the list?
also how will you be able to tell the difference between these and the originals?
are they being numbered? i thought the tube sets were already stamped from BITD?
cheers :) :) :)
-
This will be the last bmx frame and forks that I ever buy so I don't mind waiting a bit longer for them. :daumenhoch:
Am I right in assuming that the emails you sent out previously saying we were one of the lucky few are still valid?
-
I cant wait to get my email, these will be a very special frameset :smitten:
-
Looks like a proper job at last... 8) 8)
-
I cant wait to get my email, these will be a very special frameset :smitten:
Definitely. I feel very privileged to be one of the lucky few on the waiting list.
I'm not sure I will even build it up. I might just hang it on the wall!
-
so how will you be able to tell the difference?
because surely they are genuine tubesets from bitd.
why didnt skyway weld them up, powder and decal them,
and then flog them as NOS framesets?
they would have sold for a fortune
there is a fine line on these as i can see between re issuing an
old frame like SE are doing and actually having the real deal left
in stock and welding them up.
didnt these tubesets already have serial numbers from about 85 stamped in??
I THERE ANY POINT IN BEING ADDED TO THE LIST?? ?? ?? ??
-
I have no idea about whether they have serial numbers already stamped in. I think they are going to stamp them with 25th Anniversary though, to make them different.
They may also have a limited edition number on them (1 of 250 for instance), but I can't remember what Ed said.

its a shame
i think skyway have under sold them if thats the case :-[
if they are indeed genuine tubesets from bitd then would they not be
NOS FRAMES?
much like the tubeset thats on ebay at the moment?
if that was welded together would that still be classed as
a real TA from BITD?

You have a point there. Technically I suppose they are NOS tubesets so they should be NOS when built.
I wonder if the act of welding at today's standard and powder coating them with today's paint invalidates the NOSness of them?
-
My understanding is they will be marked as 25th Anniversary.
I'm looking forward to mine :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

Yeah... the whole "NOS" thing is a touchy subject, and varies from person to person on what is considered "NOS".
We are using all "old stock" material for this frame and fork set. The bottom brackets are already stamped with a serial number and date.
When Skyway stopped making the T/A race frameset when freestyle was all the rage, production switched from the T/A, to the Street Beat. This was around 1986. In essence, these framesets that we are welding up would have been the 1986 or 1987 model Skyway T/A's. Is it still considered an NOS product if we're using all original material? Yeah, sorta. BUT, we're welding them now, so the welding will be 2008 welding, and the powder coating will be new. If you strip down an NOS frame to re-paint it... is it still considered NOS?
So, it's up to you on what you want to call them. I look at them as the "lost production model year T/A" The model year that should have seen the welding torch 20 something years ago, but hasn't. Until now.
Props to Skyway for keeping the material in storage in pristine condition for all of these years. It's almost like they were waiting for the "Vintage BMX" era to begin....!
We are planning on stamping the frame with a "2008" stamp so there is no confusing these with the others. Not sure if we're going to stamp the dropout, or the BB shell, but Greg does have equipment to stamp a frame. Heck, maybe we can personalize some!
We'll see.......

Oh god... A personalised frame... I think I just wet myself!
It's interesting that the frames will have the original serial and date stamp on them. I quite like that idea. It's as you say, the "lost frames" are finally seeing the light.

SO HAVE THESE ALL BEEN ALLOCATED?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?
No idea mate. Go to Coloredtuffs.com and send Ed an email asking to be put on the list. You may get lucky.
-
SO HAVE THESE ALL BEEN ALLOCATED?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?
Not sure yet. Yes, we have enough people on the list to sell these out fast enough, but I know that some people will drop off the list when it comes time to pay for them.
Just email me at sales@coloredtuffs.com" and put "Skyway T/A frameset" in the subject line and I'll put you on the list.

done !!!!!:daumenhoch: :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
-
So off all of us that are on the list what are your plans for them. Will you build it or just keep it as a frame set.
Mine will be staying sealed in the box for a very long time I imagine. :daumenhoch:
-
I cant decide what to do with it yet. If Ed wants to sponsor me, I might even race it in the OSSS08 :daumenhoch:
-
I rode Spillers brothers TA and have to say I really liked it. That was the first time I'd ridden a TA round a race track and it felt really good. Biy surprised really as it's got a really short top tube length.

SNAP. ;)

Yep, I think I may keep mine in the box too.
I think i'll get it out and have a butcher's at it first though.
-

I'm not really getting this , you're gonna keep an 07 repro/re intro F+F in it's box ? . I'd rather build a really nice 83/84 TA to look at if I was'nt gonna use it ??? .
Are these 07 F+F the old tubes left over then ? .
-
My names down but i did'nt make the cut, still very interested if people drop out, thanks :daumenhoch:

Yes, apparently they are from 1986/87 and will be identified as such on the frames. Sound like a bargain to me at $500.
