I've scored this Hutch stem which is 100% original and in superb condition
Unlike my other stem, this one has knurling on the quill ... does this indicate a year of manufacture or even the country of origin perhaps

I know very little about the history of Hutch ... any info would be much appreciated :daumenhoch:

think mine has the knurling too??, so i'd be interested too ?
Are both of yours the freestyle versions ? They did a race one too...., without the mod potts holes...
-
Both my stems are the freestyle type with potts ... they're identical apart from the knurling ???

None of mine have that knurling, I have one of each, so I would be intersted too :-\

I remember PKradman telling me that there are moody ones about!
Dont wanna worry you all!

This is defo a genuine Hutch stem ... I got it from the original owner who purchased it when new BITD :daumenhoch:

the knurled ones were late 80`s hutch stems just before they went bust
-
Cheers Paul ... do you know if they were USA made or overseas :)
Steve
-
most probably overseas as hutch moved everything over there in the end
-
The later ones were pretty awful from what I recall: in the early nineties you could get 'em new for around 15 quid and the top often came loose on the shaft after a while. Had a couple then gave up on 'em.
Nice score though, everyone wants Hutch stems nowadays :daumenhoch:

The snide ones were the deep H ones not the western ones :daumenhoch:

Well, this one i actually bought back in 1983 with my own hard earned paper round money.... just rescued from me moms house when she moved last month. Been in a bin liner in the garage for years...

No knurling and its got deep H rather than your lined one.. also a recessed ring around shaft in the aluminium under stem.
I'd say yours was a the Freestyle model "HutchINS" era one, which makes it late 80's from what i'm lead to believe.
