how do you just forget, ow yes ive got a skyway ta in the loft and its nos in box.
all ive got in my loft is dust, not the white kind :2funny:

I think its bull shite that she just 'found it' in her loft.  :uglystupid2:

If you ask me i have a very good idea that it is one of the f+f that they rewelded together about 4 years or so ago. They did only a few in chrome but the vast majority in white. The box looks identical to the NOS white one i had which was one of those rewelded f+f's. The NOS chrome one i have had a different box. More older looking style and obviously the box was battered not brand new like that one! My white newer rewelded frame didnt have a pad however!

Who knows. I would like to think it is a NOS one from bitd. Would love to also know the serial number! That would tell.

It does sound more attractive to a buyer when you see a story behind it like she has. I think it sells the item easier!

Thing is if that sells for a grand does that set bench mark prices for TA's from then on. It would be lovely to get it but even 4-500 quid is enough.

i can check my dirt bros xl ta frame for its serial.
as it would have been one of the last batch that skyway
had and sold on.

I reckon it will get £600 plus. Someone like Biagio will just sit on it for years and probably sell it for 1g+ when a bloke comes along with a few quid who wants the perfect TA. That is the perfect TA for a build- lets face it. I built mine up which i regret when i now look at that.  :'( Im gonna put piccys up this weekend as it will be finished then.

They did a handful in chrome aparently. I spoke to a guy in the US about 6months ago and he had 2 of them and about 10 of the white ones. Them white ones are lush. At least they have been painted in the correct Skyway white that they used BITD rather than any old repowdered white colour that you see now. The decals were cheap and nasty though and were put on horrifically!
The powder jobs were not brilliant either. I have never seen one of the chrome ones either to judge the chrome job on them.

Not one for conjecture, asked a question...and got an answer....

Thanks for your questions - I will change the info to include more details as you suggest. This is an original 80's frame. The serial number is 0003544 - it also says Skyway USA 7-83. I have the original certificate still attached. My husband ordered one over 25 yrs ago as a boy but 2 got delivered, hence one still being in the box. We found it in his parents loft. I can assure it is totally authentic. Good luck with your bidding. Rgds Justine

Auction Winner = DJNOSH ??

I'm guessing £800+
Title: Re: Get your cheque books out boys!
Post by: gossa on December 05, 2007, 10:22 PM
I know I'm new to this collectors scene but £800 doesn't seem too stupid, it looks like £400-£500 is the going price for a frameset on ebay right now and a bit of perspective, I can't really remember but these things were what, nearly £250-300 new BITD? £800 BNIB seems like a steal but I reckon it will go for a grand.

You know what's funny, i'm building Darren Woods old TA and Tom Lynch's Patterson and JESUS THESE THINGS WEIGH A TON!!! I can't beleive we rode bikes that heavy back then!

the rewelded ones also had 2 left handed, or right handed - can't remember which, fork dropouts (so the skyway stamp is on the inside of the dropout)

They were not as nicely welded either.

I bought a box off ebay a couple of years ago for my mint chrome one...sound investment.

i hope it does fly up in price, and may help me sell the tubes  :knuppel2:

just checked the serial and its 11-85  0025298

i agree with Munners thou, that box does look kinda factory fresh with modern design,

if it makes more than £650, mine will go back to cali to get sorted,  and does have either 2 left or 2 right front fork drop outs (cant remember).

I'd say it was 99% sure to be a re-weld one, even in a loft it would not look that good after 20 plus years.

Its deffo the real mccoy! I was told they did a few rewelded ones in chrome. Not sure how many. Saying that though, who is to say that someone got a few of those rewelded ones and just went out and got them chromed? The chrome job would be pretty good as the tubing would be good with no rust etc on it. There's just so many people out there selling snidey stuff! Like that chrome 'prototype' Streat beat with TA decals on it that was found to be just a chromed normal one! Cheaters!
Title: Re: Get your cheque books out boys!
Post by: retrogeezer on December 15, 2007, 05:11 PM
Well, if it is an original one from 1983 lets hope it gets back to the US in one piece!

I know that most of the rewelded ones had 86 serial numbers but lets not forget they were built up with bits of tubing left over. There would have been a box full of already stamped bottom brackets and it is possible an 83 one was still kicking about.

Having said that, I think the one just sold also has a curved brake bridge which only early ones had.

I shall be wrapping my mint one up in cotton wool!
Title: Re: Get your cheque books out boys!
Post by: munners on December 15, 2007, 05:21 PM
True.

All the rewelded ones were 86. I honestly believe that this is the real deal. The box is the only stumbling block. It looks too new!

My NOS ones box was hammered!  The box was also opened up and the pad wasnt in it either, although the box said it does come with a pad.  I reckon someone took it out and used it up. Still had the warranty card attached aswell. The rewelded ones didnt have a pad in as far as i know or came with a warranty card.

A mystery still but i reckon it is worth every penny and a really nice story.

Hey, if any of you guys want to know anything for sure, that NOS TA is shipping to me as the seller wouldn't ship outside of the UK so I can take a peak to clarify anything.  I have Skyway rider Darren Woods original 83 bike in my shop at the moment too so I can compare if needed.
