Title: Strip Chrome From Alumium (Help Please)
Post by: kuwahero on December 08, 2007, 10:52 PM
Just got hold of a pair of Chrome Araya 7x which I thought were steel for some reason

However, they appear to be aluminium. Most of the chrome is bubbled and peeling off so what do I do. Is this a chrome anodising which I can do the old oven pride/caustic method on or is it chrome plating like steel and I need to get chemically stripped.

Previous build have all been NOS parts. Thought I go for full on restoring this time.

But haven't really got a clue :uglystupid2: with processes, etc. Any advice gratefully received.

Take them to a chrome plater and they should be able to reverse the process very quickly and easily removing the chrome.

Thanks Marty

Spoke to the platers nearest me the other week about doing a frame. He said as long as it's steel which suggests they don't do aluminium.

Do you think they would still be able to strip though. Can you suggest anyone I could send them too. I live in Livingston and the place I rang, appears to be the only on left in Scotland.

Cheers Marc
