Title: brakes
Post by: eloopnai on December 09, 2007, 12:08 PM
i have put my goose together and have a problem im not very good at expaining things so bear with me
the rear brake pads only just sit on the rim of the skyways
if i shorten the chain anymore the freewheel touches the tubes on the dropouts so the wheels are sitting in the middle of the dropouts
ive put on the skyway tuff pads the thinner type not the blocks
and they are sitting as far out as poss in the brakes
so my question is how do i get the brake pads to sit more on the rims ?

it looks closer to the tyre in this pic than it actually is theres probally a couple of mill from the block sitting on the wheel to the tyre

or am i just being fussy and this is ok ?

What brake are you using? Looks like a DC 901 and probably need something with 10cm of reach like an MX1000 or 1080 Shimano or DC brake.  Other thing to do might be to put some washers on your axle to spread the rear dropouts to give the freewheel some more clearance.

or use a smaller spacer between caliper and frame to move the brake up the wheel a tad.

Yep what they said a Dia-compe 1020 or Shimano Tourney would give you a little more reach and would be a little more era correct if you were being fussy.

What he said  :daumenhoch:
Take out the 2 concave spacers that you've got fitted and stick them on the other side of the brake bracket on the frame. Will bring the caliper back a bit - just had to do the exact same thing on my DP with a set of 901's  ;)
