Title: Old school Parts prices here and in the States - your thoughts?
Post by: Swivel on January 09, 2008, 01:47 PM
Guys, but do you reckon that old school parts are really drying up? I know prices over here keep rising on certain items and have done a lot over the last year but is that due to lack of parts available here in the UK or is that because there is such a demand for old school parts? i.e. more popular they are the price rises etc..

In the states prices for some items haven't really changed all that much, you can still pick up decent bits and pieces including NOS at sometimes less than half the price compared to over here in the UK. It seems with us UK lot, we horde stuff but in the states things just keep coming on the bay, even stuff you think is obsolete just keeps popping up for sale and selling at reasonably low prices...

What are your thoughts?

The real cheap stuff is usually the stuff that doesn't ship to the UK!

True , BMX was enormous there in the 80's . A clue really is to see how many loopy rippers etc constantly flow onto ebay.com .

I wonder what his actual bid was?
even though he got it for $621.99 wonder if he put down a bid of $1000

I think that seat post thing was a one-off though (great story by the way), but if you look at parts in general they really are much cheaper in the states than here...

But the yanks like different things to us

so an 84 part ,which is right in the middle of old school UK , is a later part to the yanks

Certain things are much priceier in the US that here and vica versa

Also money is an issue , a can of coke in the states is 50c , which equates to 25p , a can of coke is 60p here

so the value of stuff is relative to the currency being used !

The SST command post isn't really a one off. The US freestyle guys love 'em and they always sell for good money (at least the one or two that I've seen sell over the last 4 years).

Don't forget that in order for that post to get up to that price, there's the losing bidder who bid nearly as high  :idiot2:
