I found some new pics of my first 2 dirtbikes. Both riding shots but they show the bikes quite well
This is my mk1 Dirtbike that I got on Feb 14th 1991. I still have the frame and Im planning to build it back up, not far from how it is here (I changed it all the time when I rode it)
270 over the hip and Southsea KOC, Summer 1991:

This was my second dirtbike. I cant remember if I got it in 1992 or 1993. It was purple with the Mexican "S Y M" Decals.
Pump air at my old local 8ft vert ramp. Probably 1993 or 94

Thats them Rob, or close enough. I had a metal one on the back and a plastic one on the front. Both held on with the spoke clips that hold wheel reflectors on. Strange, cos I read somewhere that G-sport didnt invent spoke guards till 1994 ....?
I had problems with the grind disc cos the chainring would never sit in the middle, and you had to put spacers on the spindle to stop the teeth hitting the frame. I got round both these problems by putting a redline flight ring on behind/as well as the grind disc. Remember when adding weight wasnt a problem! haha.

You couldnt "Get" left hand drive ... that was the first one! :daumenhoch:
You can almost make out its a Araya aero rim with fat spokes cos it was a modified MTB Cassette hub, that only came in 36 hole. Ive still got that exact wheel and I will be using it when I get the mk1 Dirtbike back together.

Awsome flicks!
I love the modified hub...

Check out that the pitchforks had peg mounts on the second dirtbike and they both had canti mounts. I got all those put on at a local machine shop. They also put the 990 mounts on both frames cos they didnt come with them, and I got them to thicken up the right side drop outs.
It was so nice to put my newest bike together and not have to modifiy a single thing on it! Progress, eh?

Why cantis on the front back then Alex?

Why cantis on the front back then Alex?
Not sure really. It was before anyone was using 990s on the front (I think). I worked out a way of getting a canti to work when still using a pots mod. (It turned out to be the same as Vee brakes worked ... a few years later when they were invented). I thought that the canti looked way simpler and cleaner than a 990, and it always worked super good. I would still use cantis on the front now but I went on a quest to build a totally off the shelf bike, and I was lucky enough to get some pitchfork XLTs with 990 mounts on them. Also, the Suelo U brake is very low profile so it looks quite clean.

loving them pics alex ,cracking

Amazing pics alex - god those grind discs were HUGE werent they?! I remember loving the idea of cantis on the front and in 93/94 bought some Bully Powerforks from Green Machine - they had the stupid cut out in the crown where the cable swingarm was - brakes were amazing but I bent the forks on a month... only front brake I had that was amzing until my Fly Suelo a few months back!
-
I had the same haircut.
Those pics are very cool. I have no pics of me riding BITD. Sucks.
-
Did the spoke guards on the rear but stickered the hell out of them.I didnt really use them as guards I wasnt into peg grinds. As always Alex more cool pics!!!!

Cool pics Alex. Is that frame pad the same one you use on your LAF nowadays?

Did that end up being a feature in Ride at some point? Rings a bell with me...
I'm loving this by the way;
'a few years later when they were invented'
'G-Sport invented hubguards'

haha, "Superglue 4". Yep, but not in those pics. They were propper dreads. A few years before that I used to put in little plats and glue the ends up. But the end of 91 the glue was gone.
This pic was in 1990. Glue in full effect. I even cut one of the plats off by mistake when cutting the sides so I glued it back on. Its the one that kept sticking up in the air.

Easy there big fella. Ive still got some magazine shots of you on a Bully. Still, at least you are doing a cracking lookback on a vert ramp, not a stinky flyout jump to flat :2funny:

man, that bowl was the best to boost out of! it felt so rad pumping into the bowl then just blasting! unfortunately the landing probably took a few of my frames/forks/bars out and took 10 years off my knees. :(
