:daumenhoch: i was thinking of getting a f&f done but its expensive.
-
how much and where harris? I've had some stuff done by south coast chrome who used to do the MRD stuff and thier standard chrome is awesome on bars and cranks but they did a frame and it wasn't as hot in the nooks and crannies.
I think a lot of it comes down to the polishing mate.
-
yep its 90% or more the polishers and how they do the prep work
they are a company in thetford norfolk ,they only do show stuff .i will find the details .
-
I'd be interested to hear too Dan, as my Star f+f was re-done last year and I'm not happy enough with the finish so want to get it re-done.
-
this company is 6 miles from me and said they can do almost anything
in metal work and coating finishes

It's all in the preparation, the better the polish through each stage the better the finish but you have to start with a good and well polished base. Restoration frames tend to be difficult to get into the nooks and crannies compared to when they were new as they were pre-polished before welding/brazing. It can be done but requires a hell of a lot of effort to make sure the hard to get to bits are really done well before chroming starts.
Cheekythirtysix uses a firm in the north and does a mid prep, after the chromer has done his prep he checked it over and did the fiddly bits and then passed it back to the chromer for plating. A lot of effort and expensive but if you see the pics of his Redline and PowerLite it's well worth it.

Thats just what i have thought it was but 9 times out of 10 i'm wrong. So i'm guessing i may be wrong this time too :LolLolLolLol:

I spoke with London chrome a few years ago, they are very expensive wanted £300 for f+f then plus the lead time was like 12 weeks :idiot2:
Stidds that is as good a recommendation as any, I love that bike. I may well send the Star to them to have a crack at, anyone got contact details etc?

Click the www (globe) icon underneath my avatar and it should take you to Doug Taylors website.
Otherwise click this link http://sitebuilder.yell.com/sb/show.do?id=SB0002037145000010
They usually have a 4 week turn around and will do all the prep work.
If you want I you can send me the any work that needs plating and I will drop it down and collect it for you. Just drop me a pm to arrange it.

Is show chrome of a higher finish than normal chrome? I'm not sure what the difference is.

Yes, I've been told that it's generally deeper and brighter than regular chrome as usually normal chrome is only copper then chrome.
