Title: T/A frameset: How much
Post by: ducati ste on January 12, 2008, 09:58 PM
Interested in doing a t/a build.

What sort of price would a frameset cost, Worst case would be strip and powdercoat to a mint n.o.s  type one.

At the minute mate start at expensive for a fooked one and then go up to fooking stupidly expensive for a NOS one, and I'm not joking!

Chips and pissed on comes to mind on that plan then  :'(

Don't mind getting a shitter and taking my time with it, £300 sounds ok but not much more.

Your all right it's gone crackers, I've restored about 8 - 10 last few years,  6 months ago I would have sold a restored one with tange forks for £220 posted - £275 with TA forks. The last few on ebay have been creeping up and up. They're not that hard to find either or they weren't, must of sold a fair few in this country bitd. A good set of forks is always the pain in the arse to find.

i think you might have just hit a bit of bad timing to get one.
alot of us have had them got bored then moved to a different build,so they got sold
but now i think we or some have realised they are a MUST for a collection
so got them back and prices have krept up alot.

you never no ,keep your eyes peeled they do pop up .

Yeah I thought he was having a laugh too...that needs a fair bit of work and money to make it right...mine was £370 and I feel money well spent,  although I spent some money on getting it right for me, it had at least been loved...it seems that one has been missing love for some time.

Can't say as I desire one to be fair, nice F&F don't get me wrong but they're certainly not at the top of my shopping list. I'm glad really with the way they've gone. I'm sure if I dropped on a survivor from someone and got it cheap enough I'd still restore it but they have never really done owt for me, each to their own as always.

Mate, TA's f*ckin rule, and a must  for a true collector without doubt. Anyone who disagrees has got to be bloody bonkers.
I found the frame forks and bars to this little slag in a mountain bike web page garage clearout sale. Paid a £100 for the lot although it was 4 years ago and it was in a bit of a state although no dents cracks rewelds etc etc it needed a full bare metal strip which i done myself then i gave it 6 coats of etch primer and 6 coats of 2 pack snow white. I followed this up with 6 coats of laquer then flatted it to 2000 grit and polished it to death!!!!. I had my own spray booth!!!. You have never seen a finish like this one belive me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its not always the obvious places like this that you hit gold my friend. Ive found PK's a trickstar and loads of burners on mountain bike webpages for the right money. Belive me stock is becoming thin and prices are now gettin fu*kin ridiculous. This comunity and folloeing as good as it is is slowly eating itself up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
All the best dude and most of all enjoy. Si :daumenhoch:

Ive got to say if it wasnt for seeing a TA, my collection would probably have ended with the Chopper...I saw a TA and that was it...I couldnt afford the TA's that were around, so I bought an 84 master, but it wasnt a TA and so I felt something was missing.
I had to wait a while, but my TA eventually found me...

Its one of those bikes that you never want to sell, and if you do, you'll ALWAYS regret it.

i think that if you love a TA...... then you really LOVE A TA!  :smitten:

In my eyes they have an aura about them. I have often wondered why. Is it that the Skyway logo and its colours stand out so clearly in my mind from when i was younger? I just dont know.

The more i have got into this hobby the more i believe that Skyway are the most iconic bmx bike company and the TA the most iconic bmx bike.

I sold a reasonable condition survivor TA frame and fork a couple of years ago for about £100  :uglystupid2:

It had just been sitting in my garage for years (it was a mate's old frame and fork he rode when we were kids) waiting to be restored/built up and I lost interest in it.  Maybe it belongs to someone on here now?  The bloke I sold it to said him and his mates at work had a whip round to buy the Skyway for a bloke who was leaving.  Nice leaving present!

I do regret selling mine now. I rode it in the OS races at bournemouth and MK, it was a really nice bike. Think I'd go for an XL if i were to ever try for another though.

I couldn't agree more, Nick.

I like a good TA too, always a great bike to do a build with. They just seem to have more scope than most bikes for a variety of what you can do and what works. As iconic as it gets.....

I've got some pics of a couple of mine, TA XL first then a regular white one

I also cant put my finger on why, but Skyway has always had an aura surrounding it.  Especially the TA, which must be the most beautiful f&f ever produced.  So simple, so clean and a true classic.

I did once own one, around the early to mid nineties, it was a survivor frame with genuine forks that I picked up off a lad I worked with.  I did a rough build up on it and sold it on for around £40 I think.  Regrets, i've had a few...

I'd love to own another, but doubt I ever will.  Its just something about the name, the logo, and the colours that looks so right.

IMO you cant beat a white TA, as a result ive gone for the next best thing (that I can afford) and bought this for my next build... (got some white Tuffs coming to help recreate the classic look).
