Title: Do you have TOO many builds to do??
Post by: generallee on January 14, 2008, 09:18 PM
I have too many builds waiting to be done!
Ive sort of got myself into a viscious circle... its been very easy to slowly build up a collection of frames, forks, parts etc over the past few years, and I now have exactly the right amount of all parts and frame and forks to build up into bikes with no excess surplus parts left over .. apart from some tyrea dna bunch of pedals and seatposts etc that im gonna sell. But the problem is, our house is tiny and all the bits are in storage boxes on our kitchen roof - so I have 19 bikes to build up, but if I build more than two, I then have to take them apart again and store them away cos we simply have no room, not even a loft as we had a loft conversion before the baby was born!
What do you all do with your collections./ where do you store them? I want to build mine but cangt bear the thought of building one, then stripping it again, then building another etc etc
any help appreciated!
and no.. I wont send them all round to your house etc. ....

sounds like you need to build a conservatory  for the wife and kids to live in - should leave you with enough space to put the bikes anywhere you want - bonus is you get the buttons to the TV all night long and watch what the fook you want  :LolLolLolLol:

Yes, have two builds in boxes in my loft (haro and Hoffman - you know which one), one at a mates and despite telling myself I was done and only thinking about getting a f&f I managed to pick up my first true survivor bargain so have got four to do  ;D.

I'm doing one mid school build to live in my hall as an ornament and to bring to Rad S&S events.

I have no desire* to build a load of bikes.

*No money and no space.

I have got a Over Sized Challenger Im building for a mate.
I want to get my 1997 24" Challenger all running good.
Ive got a mk2 Holmes that is freshly Powder coated (thanks SBD) but its not even out of the bubble wrap yet.
My first dirtbike has got all the parts ready to build, even got decals on the way but the frame needs work and a repaint.
A few others need finishing off but that will be just about done then.
Oh, and Ive got to fit new bars to my NS Rider and sort out the stiff front brake. And Ive started thinking about painting it too.

So with all that on the go, how come I just spent 2 hours in the shed and all I did was fix my wifes 2 bikes? I guess she does use them more than I use mine!

Steve i have seen your collection first hand and it is a homage to SE, but then i have seen the space you got to work in as well. There is no sure fire answer, have you thought about renting a garage or somthing ??

I have only 3 current builds needing attention and that is a proper problem to me so cant imagine yours or Dans

I have 8 built up bikes, 2 downstairs, 2 upstairs in the spare bedroom and 4 in the loft,  i have plans for another 4 to do this year.
Luckily I'll be taking 2 to my parents loft and 2 to my sister's house soon... When these 4 are done that is it! no more unless i sell one of the others. (but I said that when I had only 2) ;D

1. Super burner mkii, old and stripped, but a good rider
2. MirraCo Black Pearl one new school rider
3. raleigh strika, needs work, or binning.
4. akisu frame in my study
5. streetbeat frame and forks raw behind my office door (was going to raffel these for charity, but it didn't really cause much excitement, not sure it's desirable enough, now it'll get built eventully)
6. Aero Reflex, the one I entered in bike of the year (the only bike with zero votes i think) I had sold it, and I've just bought it back, though it is used. Wanted it back but now have other plans, probably end up splitting it if anyone needs green bits.
7. Fly 3 amigos frame, needs building, gonna be slow, want to do it justice, hence I'll probably sell the parts off the reflex, really wish I'd bought a white set of those colony forks from steve B when he had them dirt cheap.

Yep I have quite a few to build also and these are all over the house, Haro Gen 1, GT Pro Performer and Ultra Burner on my kitchen table, and in the office Haro Master, GT Pro Performer and Kuwahara Lazerlite and in the garage Ammaco Freestyler and in the loft Skyway Street Beat, another Gen 1 and Ammaco Team Sprint!

Aim this year is to just finish 5 of them (the ones which are almost there), the chrome GT Pro Performer for MK, the Lazerlite, Ammaco Freestyler and this Ultra Burner. Once all done they will come upstairs into my office and they will be on show there...  ;)

I have 8 built and I think 9 to build.

I have been collecting parts etc but a few months back noticed that I hadn't acquired enough headsets and stems so had to focus for a while on getting more. I have quite a few wheels that either need building up, stripping re anno and then rebuilding, but it just finding the time. My lad has just started rugby training and I have got roped into becoming a trainer as there are so many kids attending they needed more dads, so that is Sunday mornings written off, footy practice for the lad Sat morning plus then add the missus chores etc doesn't leave much garage time :(
