Hi There
I believe cream 80's alloy hubbed skyways can be cleaned to look like new. How is this done?
Also, the freewheel was knackered so I have removed and was going to replace before selling but what do I fit? The freewheel that was removed was a 18 tooth shimano. shou;d I fit a more usable 16T shimano or leave the freewheel altogethr for the new owner to fit what suits them?
Cheers
David

bleach will bring them back to white.
44/16 gearing is common and rideable for most adults.

go to stickies and read about bleaching tuffs remember to grease the alloy hubs well before you do it

I bleached a pair, one stayed in for a month the other just over a fortnight. It cleaned them fine but unevenly dissolved a top layer and left a skin of mushy powder and all needed sanding and still isn't right. A bit like peeling off masking tape and bits off paint come up, that kinda surface was left. Try it for a week and see how you get on. And greasing those hubs before is really essential, bleach will pit them like buggery....
