Title: Haro GEN 1
Post by: munners on January 22, 2008, 11:06 AM
I have just seen in the museum a bike called a 'PANDA' which is the latest bike to be put up in there.

They have an advertisement in 1978 showing a bike with a twin top tube just like the Haro Gen 1.

I thought that the Gen 1 was the 1st bike to introduce this just for the purpose of freestyle.  ???

Am i totally wrong or have we just uncovered a bike that got there before Haro?

nick  ;)

ps Sorry mods for posting in the museum....AGAIN! :-[

i am sure Torker did twin top tubed bikes in the late 70's but something sticks in my mind that Haro was the 1st purposely made freestyle bike because of the top tubes. ???

The twin top tubed Torker was a race frame/forks, it was just good for freestyle because of it`s design not because it was made for freestyle, and it was the f/f that Bob Haro based the gen 1 on, and it was even made by Torker too  :daumenhoch:

top man. I knew the Gen 1 was a Torker made bike but i suppose it was clever how they marketed it as a freestyle bike when the design (Torker) was for race originally! I cant see the logic of a twin tubed frame being designed for racing? There again quads are great to race and if you look at them they look a freestyle bike all day long!

I think the Gen 1 was the first f/f designed specialy for freestyle, the others just got used as freestyle f/f`s, the T/A for instance  :daumenhoch:

The first BMX I've seen to have a twin top tube was a '76 R&R.

Rick & Rick also made twin top tube frames for Centurion, Puch and Weinert  :daumenhoch:

Twin top tube is a classic design for bikes since the 40's-50's I'd say.
Now when it comes to BMX, the freestyle twin top tube is just marketing.
As said above, Torkers were race bike on first intention.
Bob Haro invented Freestyle on this bike, then it was sold to us candid kids as "designed for freestyle"
