Just got these beauties back from the chromers and they really are super shiny and nicely finished (apart from my finger prints). Got them done in RCJ in Hoddesdon, Herts (think Moose has used them before), worked out about a tenner per crank. Pictured are two Tioga Max Flo cranks (my fave) and also a Sugino crank for my Ultra Burner build.... got one more in there too another Tioga crank which will be ready next week. Look nice don't they? Here is RCJ's number if anyone wants to use them (01992) 467931. Speak to a guy called Alex and mention me. They are very good and fairly quick, waited about 2 weeks for these. Deffo worth the wait... :daumenhoch:

I recognize one of mine... Can I have it back ? :LolLolLolLol:
-
Nice :daumenhoch:
I've used them in the past, did a pretty good job on a hutch stem for me and I had some Vector FS bars done as well. Pretty good all thing's considered, but make sure they know what you want/need.
-
Arnaud, I thought you'd recognise that! :LolLolLolLol:
Phil, yeah you're right, make sure they they know exactly what you want and I think it doesn't hurt to pick up the phone now and again to ask how they are coming along... They do so much stuff that there so its worth staying on top of them. Prices are very cheap and the quality is good though :daumenhoch:

they look good. I just found a place near Glasgow the do chroming for cars/bikes. I have a few bits that need doing but havent used them yet. Spoke to them on the phone and the guy sounded pretty sound, so will take stuff along soon. they will only do steel though
do you know if they would rechrome some Araya 7x rims which are aluminium alloy? dont really want to just polish them once stripped
next time you speak to them can you ask mate. not many places will these days
cheers Marc

You wouldn't be thinking of parting with a set of those beautiful maxi-flo's by any chance... ;)
-
Very nice, what sort of price were they?
-
I bought the max-flo cranks off here (one from Arnaud ;) ) but to get them chromed was a tenner each, so not too bad altogether. And no, won't be parting with these beauties as they are all signed to my builds! :smitten: :daumenhoch:

Me and Bananaman went to my chromers the other day with some tatty old takagi's I had lying around thinking it'd be a tenner as he charges that for seatposts .Wanted £25 so I couldn't be arsed. Moral of the story is you did well for a tenner Matt. They look great, I bet loads of us have got rusty opc's ready for the bin. Really difficult to find any now....
-
they look great, how much for a 3 pc crank, :daumenhoch:
-
Yeah nice, worth it an tenna :4_17_5:
-
Ta lads. Mark, £25 per crank is far too much but a tenner each per re-chrome is definately worth it, the finish is just lovely and nice to see the old Tioga's back to their original condition. I know everyone seems into these redline 3-piece cranks but I do love a good 1-piece crank :smitten: ;)
-
Matt they look fantastic, were they originally chrome and did you or they prep them ?
rob :daumenhoch:
-
Hi Rob, originally chrome mate... I simply gave them the cranks and that was it. They stripped them, polished them and then rechromed them all for a tenner each, not bad at all! That was the place I was telling you about when you popped over last... they are good for smaller items but not sure how good they are on chroming whole frames etc.. just had another tioga max flo crank arrive from ebay, very poor condition but I'll be taking that down there very soon ;)
-
The Tioga cranks pictured are the Task-Force model, Max-Flo are a different shape and hollow. Hope this helps. :daumenhoch:
-
Oh yes, thanks mate... always get those two mixed up :idiot2: :daumenhoch:

wow they look really good. I have a set of 3 piece cranks and bars I need doing, I think I may give them a shout

Just called RCJ, I need to get two crank arms stripped, polished & rechromed. Explained what I wanted and they said that to strip & rechrome two crank arms would come under their 'minimum charge, which is £34 + VAT (http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/Smileys/smilies/huh.gif)
-
Ahh but you need to go and see them really. Ask for cash, probably be about £11 or £12 each maximum.

To be honest mate, I'm still tempted! It's a bit out of the way for me to pop in by person but I might well end up posting them my cranks to be done, especially coz yours look so good! The finish is more important than the cost and at 34 quid I think it is still going to be money well spent. Thanks for the info :)

I've got a few things that need doing. A set of AP Bars some box cranks and a Sugino 1 piece. I'll give them a ring on Monday and find out a price.

I'm in runcorn cheshire and have just sent my diamond back frame , forks, crank and handlebars to be rechromed locally and they have quoted me £80 for the lot. Will post pictures when i get them back.

Keep us informed of results on this, have you got any pics of bike before you sent it away? :daumenhoch:

Pictures of the restoration of my diamond back pro 1980 build are available here http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj121/Guttee/ (http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj121/Guttee/)
It's not in too bad a condition but it had the usual scratches from an 11 year old boy. For info i've had the bike since new, so i'm rebuilding it to the original pictures i have. Can't wait to finish it.
