Title: RADBMX RACE JERSEY'S???
Post by: dwain dibbly on January 26, 2008, 09:11 PM
i hope the mods don't mind me starting this thread
and hopefully it could end up raising cash for the site :daumenhoch:

after reading the thread in the race section about sponsorship
its become apparent that  radbmx race jerseys may be popular for members
i think it would be a great idea to have an oldschool jersey in rad livery with our
usernames on them :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:
would you buy one if they were produced?

i understand the mods apprehension about this sort of thing i appreciate they have been
left with stock before.
but if we vote here and we get enough interest you never know what could happen :D :D :D
i for one offer my services to any of the mods to get this off the ground and would be willing to
pay in full or a deposit for one. i would be willing to run the ordering and shipping
COME ON WE ALL NEED TO GET BEHIND THIS FORUM SO IT CAN CONTINUE TO IMPROVE ;) ;)
THEY NEED MORE MONEY TO MAKE  MK08 FANTASTIC  :D :D :D :D

I'd buy one if they were good quality and looked good.

Seeing as this is mainly an OS site, it would be cool if the jerseys looked like some of the classic OS jerseys, but with RAD logos (e.g. Patterson, Skyway, GHP, SE, Hutch, etc).

Although I don't race, I will be going to parks once i'm fit enough to do so. A RAD race jersey to go over the body armour would be great.  :daumenhoch:

I totally agree about the OS look to them. I'd like one with Skyway colours and layout.

don't forget the rad logo already is an oldschool design. it's the old action bike logo modified.

but would be cool to have it with skyway or redline lettering.

I have said a couple of times since I became a member that a rad race shirt was a cool idea, I think ORB the third owner of the site started a thread a couple of years ago about getting the shirts done. Not sure if it was because of lack of interest or financial reasons it never started. But either way RAD has evolved since then, it has a huge racer base now, what with the OSS08 and OS riders converting to new school, im sure they would sell...

i dont think you need to be a racer to be interested in one.
its an ideal way of figuring out who's who at shows :) :)

when i had the calenders made a few years ago i did a post asking who would buy one

i had pre orders for about 150 calenders
stidds kindly printed these for me free of charge, which took up alot of his time,  quimrider spent along time getting all the pics together,   i ended up only selling about 40 calenders

so that has put us of bothering to get things made to sell, as we end up out of pocket

with have had loads of ideas of things to make to sell, mousemats, cups, hoodies, baseball caps, etc etc, but we ''know'' from previous experience that they wont sell

wouldnt taking deposits help?
i for one would be willing to pay in full
prior to them being made :)

Post by: Romswife on January 26, 2008, 10:55 PM
yes it would help, but we have seen this so many times before, people dont like parting with their money

and unless you get things made in bulk it works out expensive then you cant put much profit on top of the cost price so whats the point in doing it in the first place

sorry if i sound totally negative but just speak to waxintaxin, macmark and a few others who have tried this before for us and they will tell you what a fruitless task it is

Dwain ,

Interesting poll  ;) , I'm hoping the results are good .

Historically as Shelly ( Romswife ) has mentioned the actual number of active members ( for arguments sake say 150 ? ) who have purchased merchandise in the past is very LOW . Most T shirt's struggle to sell 30 ( of 150 regulars ! ) , actions are speaking louder than words ! .

People love coming here because it's free , I was surprised recently though on a thread I went through where over 50% of the posters were'nt even site supporters ! .

Maybe it's contrary to popular belief but we ( Owners/Mods/Admin ) are constantly discussing ways to finance events like MK08 , and if possible make a profit for RAD .

Definitely. I like your design but lose the .co.uk in the logo on the front and it would be perfect in my eyes.

I think taking deposits of 50% first would be a great way of ensuring that people really want the shirts. Of course, it all boils down to how much they would retail for anyway. IF they are £100 each then I think i'll pass. you know what I mean.  :daumenhoch:

Selling shirts on here is a waste of time
I have tried 5 times and sold fook all, the last tshirt sold 5 ,and I had 2 of them
I spent more on pre production than anything ever brought in finacialy,so out of pocket and as a result learnt my lesson.

Rad runs at a loss and has done since it started ,so please bare that in mind as well

Rich

I dont mind parting with my money most of the time...lets get some designs up, get some feedback, sort out printers take deposits and make the damn things already  ;D

I agree with the OS flava because that's at the root and the heart of Radbmx  :daumenhoch:

We Got To Do It... And Dwain's Right It Could Make Alot Of Money For Rad!!... And I Think People Would Pay A Bit Of Money For A Special MK08 Edition....................................................

But Then Again Waxintaxin Also Right Because It May Not Sell.......

ok, at the moment the poll is running at 15 yes', 1 dont know, and 4 no's.

so lets work the percentages......youd be lucky to make £4 profit out of each shirt, by the time youve bought the shirt, had the screen printing done, and paid the postage, there isnt a lot of members on here who are going to pay 50 for a race shirt.
so....15 shirts x  £4...........you do the maths.

let this poll run its full course and we'll see.

Actually thinking, it could be nice in the rad grey's colours i.e. black, greys, whites, silvers etc.. like the rad padset that was created. Could look mean? Then have the odd colourful logo on it i.e. skyway etc.. what do you think?  ;)

I'm not a big fan of dating a race shirt as in a years time it would make it seem so last year.  It is fine I feel doing this to MK07 MK08 tee shirt and the like...But I feel that a Radbmx race shirt should be about style, belonging to Radbmx,  the 'sponsor' names we all love and our own name or membername.

As I said before designs first, feedback from interested members, any revisions...then approach printers/manufacturers with projected numbers to find out likely cost of batch(s) and then to interested members for deposits (If you are selling something I want, I'll pay up front personally).  Make sure the deposit you take covers what you are doing...the rest can be Radbmx profit/funds whatever.

You could consider having a small excess of shirts factored into the first batch (ie 2 medium 2 large 1 XL...none of us are small anymore  :-[)for new members who will join after this is done, but again factor this into the cost of the batch split between the buying members.

how about approaching some of the companies like
shiners, alans, vertego or even SE or DC SHOES
and get them to contribute in return each shirt could have there
name on it?? its a thought ??? and there would be less investment
needed from the site :) :)

Nice idea Dwain and I'd deffo be interested. Like others have mentioned though, I think you may only get limited requests (even though there's currently 3883 members) based on previous stuff like the Rad tees but I can see your enthuisam and hope it don't get dented.

It's a real shame that stuff like tees don't appear to sell in great numbers, can't understand why, it's promoting and helping the Rad site, the designs are cool and says where you're at. The last 2 MK ones were great and I got a couple of the older Rad designed tees as well, so I'd be up for the race jersey :daumenhoch:

I hope it works out.

Paul :)

Dwain it's a great idea.....but like Paul said before........there are nearly 4000 members on here but for the CIN ride last year we only sold about 35 T shirts which were £20 each and all profits going to Children in need.

I guess people would rather sell there first born for a NOS MX1000 rather than a race shirt from RAD  :-\

If you want to ensure the jerseys sell, take pre-orders, full payment up front.  If you get the jersey made by a quality company like Hot Shoppe or Verge Sport (who I use), they should work out at about £25 each once you've paid the duties/taxes and shipping.  I think £35-£40 is a fair price to charge people and still make a reasonable profit for your time/labour.

Hot Shoppe do a custom service for a small additional fee where the rider can have their name on the back.

Personally, I think the classic Skyway design with the radbmx.co.uk URL in the Skyway font instead of Skyway would look ace and I would be happy to pay for the jersey up front.  If you use Hot Shoppe, you don't even have to produce a blueprint/artwork of the jersey, just tell them what you want and they'll do the artwork.

Hopefully there's enough info here to enable whoever takes on this project to take it forward.

great info :daumenhoch:
as ive said before taking a deposit or full payment would be essential and a small corporate logo from an outside
company would ease the financial burden

The url for Hot Shoppe is www.hotshoppedesigns.com and the company is owned/run by Torker legend Dave Marietti, so you know you're supporting a business with roots.

I think the first step would be to just contact Hot Shoppe, tell them the concept and ask nicely if they will produce the artwork (they may not want to if there is no definite order to come, as I'm sure they get plenty of time wasters just like any other company in the bike biz - but I think they recently made the Skyway retro jerseys, so the template should be on their system already anyway).  Post the artwork up on here, get people to commit to purchase and take payment, place order, then wait impatiently for said items to arrive.

The only issue is getting the right sizes (I find that when I buy clothes in the UK, I buy Large, but when I buy clothes in America I buy Medium), but that can be easily sorted by comparing with other Hot Shoppe jerseys.  I think the Hayes Hawks jerseys are Hot Shoppe, so if, for example, Miles Kirby's Hawks jersey is a large, then I would probably need the next size up.

Anyway, I hope all of that info helps.  I'll step back from the project now as I've got more than enough on my plate!  I will commit to buying a Skyway themed Hot Shoppe Rad jersey though, as that blue Nike top I race in looks shit in photos  ;)
