Anyone know when they're going to be available?
-
someone said end of the month
-
The sooner the better for me as I'm fooked if I'm paying the current price they are at nowadays.
Yes I know I'm a tight northern b@stard but come on, it's a plastic seat FFS!
Daz. ;)
-
I've seen a picture of them but don't know anything about where or how much. :(
-
I Wanna See A Pic!! :(:(

How Much Zippy?
-
I've no idea on price or availablity I'm afraid
-
Nice but are they going to do White and Black ones? ???
-
That would be sweet if they did.
I'd be after a couple of white ones if they did.
Then I could sell my original red and blue ones. ;)
-
I've just looked on a Japanese website selling them for 4250 yen - £20. They just had the colours in Zippy's pics, no black or white though....
-
ive got a gorgeous near nos white one but its got sun scorch marks from where its been in a shop window underneath :(
is there anyway of getting rid of that marking? has anyone else had the same problem?
-
there doing white and black as well, about £25 each
-
time to get them on the bay me thinks before these are re issued ;D
-
LOL
yep , just wait till araya , and se and someone decides to re issue MX1000s start re issuing exact copies of older stuff lol
its a shame IMHO as it only devalues the whole hobby as whats the point in collecting old BMX ,when it isnt ?
And anyone who says it will drop prices is not looking past there nose , as this allows more people into the scene ,which will make prices of original stuff rise
Bad
-
Who will be selling them in the UK?

I'm not so sure Rich, they are different as they don't have aero written on them and the mongoose reissue didn't effect the prices neither have all the plod Skyway TA's
-
I just dont like it
you may as well reweld up a copy gen 1 or a ripper and proudly ride around on it pretending that its an original , i just dont see the point of getting exited over re issue stuff when to be honest the real deal is still out there and still affordable ( ok so a new seat reissue is say 30 quid? well a new old stock can be had for 70 ) so save up a bit more
Bloody instant gratification is what it is
rubbish

I would rather have an 'Aero' seat than a re-issue Kashimax Aero. At least it is from BITD. Besides how could we spend hundreds on a build and then skimp on a fake seat for the sake of £30 extra. :uglystupid2
-
I can totally see the point. If I'm going to be racing the bike I'd much prefer to stick on a £30 saddle that basically looks right, than get pi55ed off every time I stack and scratch up a £100 original seat. Keep the stupidly overpriced original seat for when you're 'showing' the bike.
I guess that's only an issue if you use the bikes for what they were intended.
-
I guess its down to personal preference and also what readies are available to that person... me personally I'd have one as I don't have any on my builds and the originals are becoming too expensive to buy at the moment.

dont agree.
if someone getting into it again is of limited funds then they can have something that is near on identical to what they used to have for 25-30 quid ???
same with redline twinpinch cranks....i have used them on several bikes and they look mint...
i appreciate your point, but i for one think its a good move and widens the appeal of old school bmx...shouldnt effect prices of the real stuff too much, just means more people can have access without seeing heavy prices and then turn there noses up..some of the stuff out there is scary money at the minute...
you simply cant build a middle of the range old school bike for reasonable money anymore.
-
But if thats the case then if you want a ferrari , just buy a kit for an escort lol
Thew problem i see with reissue stuff is that by the very nature it makes it accesable , and as such makes it easy to have ,making collecting rare things easy is always a very bad idea for the collector
so 2 years down the line ,when everything is either reproed and reissued ,the hobby will die as the easy availibility of parts makes the hobby pointless ,as its not about collecting its about having
jeez the point of collecting rare things ,is just that there rare
no one collects items that are easy to get ,hence the rerason i dont like reissue stuff at all
-
repop away i say, they been doing it with mg's for 20 yrs and hasnt had any effect.
-
Repop Tuffs for example, these have gone down well as many old school ones are either faded or chipped and these new ones are good, ok no alloy hubbed but that then makes the alloy hubbed ones more collectable. Will the new skyway ta frames affect the current prices for skyway ta's on sale, I don't think they will to be honest. As for smaller parts like seats, I'm happy to see them repopped as it will enable people to have the seat they desire without the large price tag. I understand Tioga/Tange maybe bringing out some old school ranges soon also? ??? ;)
-
How long before someone puts CBRGIL's repo Aero decals on a re-issue ? , even worse does that then "accidently" leaves it out of the descripton on ebay when deciding to pass it on ::)
-
I wish someone would repop Shotgun seats. I never liked Kashimax bitd and never had them on my bikes anyway.

Same here , did'nt use Kashi Aero either :LolLolLolLol:
Can see your point about using a cheaper seat on a race bike btw ;)
-
Are the only people that re-pop/re-issued stuff annoys or offends those who see BMX as a hobby rather than a sport/lifestyle?
-
LOL
Mike i collect old bikes
and ride new ones
so where does that leave me in your eqaution
It annoys and offends me , for a very simple reason what is the point of collecting OLD BMX when it isnt old bmx , its a reissue
fine ride and smash up the new stuff ,and if you want to have a brand new seat ,thats cool but ffs why make it look like an old one
just sad and wrong
-
Bmx is a hobby to me. I dont ride and wasnt particularly good as a kid either. But i still love them and collecting is what i do. If i did a bike as a rider i dont think i would spend £30 on a seat!
-
I was talking to Bananaman the other week about this - maybe it's for another thread but kinda relevant now - you'll always get mixed and strong opinions about re-popping components but never about decals, it's always considered a good thing if someone is making them and that part of collecting is made easy. Wonder why? I'd gladly stick re-popped decals on a os bike but very probably wouldn't a component. As an example original Hutch decals can go from what we've seen lately £40 -£284 but it'd be crackers to use them. So why are re-popped decals never an issue? Is it just because they can no longer be re-sold and rendered worthless?

The re-issued stuff doesn't stop you collecting the old stuff. And as long as you know your stuff, it's unlikely you'll buy new stuff thinking it's old/original stuff.
I put an NOS Elina Lightning Bolt saddle on my race bike. I bought it cos I liked the look of it (and also it's what I had on my old bikes when I was a kid), not because it was old school. If there'd been a cheaper re-issued version available I would probably have bought that. I think this highlights that there's a place/valid demand for re-issue stuff.
I imagine there'll be decent demand for those Kashimax seats, not just amongst collectors, but for people to put on their riders too.
-
I dont disagree
But to a collector , why would you use a new seat ? even if it looked like an old one ?
if you were a stamp collector would you be all proud of a photocopied penny black
or a record collector showing off his repressed beatles album
I do understand the market for reissue stuff , just not the mentality of collectors using it as an alternative to the real thing
yes use a reissue seat to ride , but to add to an old bike just seems to smack of desperation
-
Surely it depends on what the person is trying to achieve from the build.
The objective/end result is probably less important for someone who just wants to build a replica of the bike they had or lusted after as a kid, than it is for someone who is obssessive about everything being from the correct era.
I think the danger with the re-issued/retro stuff is that people who are just getting back into BMX will get misled into thinking it's original 80s/90s stuff. Other than that, I don't have a problem with it.
-
So why are re-popped decals never an issue? Is it just because they can no longer be re-sold and rendered worthless?
I agree on this, Mark, about decals.
and I guess no one wants to see what they had hard times to find becoming widely available.
As this hobby is turning into investments sometimes, some Kashimax collectors might be afraid of the depreciation of their stuff..
In the meantime, a nice old Kashi will always be better than a neon repopped one IMHO ;)

That's the best attitude to take really. If having an original is important to you, and you know what you have is an original, that's cool :daumenhoch:
With so many serious collectors hoarding original parts, re-issued stuff may end up being the only opportunity some less serious collectors get to complete their childhood rebuild, so why begrudge people that?
-
Wonder how they are stamped underneath, looks like the manufacturing year still appear with one digit ? could they pass for 80's seats ?
Here's a new one (stamped 2005 ?)

Surely it depends on what the person is trying to achieve from the build.
I think that's the thing here. Obviously someone like Munners gets his enjoyment for hunting down perfect, era-correct parts and building some very pretty bikes, so for him repop stuff is not of interest. For me, I started out wanting to build the GT I rode back in the day and ride it again. However, being completely impatient and seeing how much an exact replica would cost, I've decided I'm happy with an 'approximation'. Somethings are the same (7X rims, A'me grips etc), somethings are bits that I would have liked to have had on it but couldn't afford at the time(flight cranks) and somethings are completely wrong (Primo pedals). In fact it's the wrong frame (1992 Interceptor), but until I track down an 82-83 Pro for less than silly money it's the closest looking one I know of.
Now, to a collector, that's probably an abomination :) but to me, it's great - I get the same buzz from riding it and I don't have to stress about damaging rare parts if I crash.
The only thing I would like to see with repro parts is that they should be distinguishable from the originals either by a serial number or one of those 'molding date stamp' things, so that collectors don't get ripped off.
-
I want the new ones to put on my race bike so that I don't bugger up a £75 seat.
I think the repro Team Pro had a small detrimental effect on the originals though as the price dipped after the new ones were released.
