... Mark Noble says so in the new Ride, so it must be true :coolsmiley:
Nice to see Ian Morris' old bike in there, complete with 1" clamp on stem
-
Come on then, where is the scan .... or are you on the RIDE payroll now? :LolLolLolLol:
-
i must seeeeee it , but i cant justify what is it now £4 just for 2 pages ? if that ?
does ride acknowledge racing yet ?
-
Nah, I looked at it in the newsagent's - not buying a mag for one single page of coolness!
-
should have liberated the page >:D
someone mustave bought it so we can see :-\
-
Thankfully Chris Moeller didnt sell out or forget his roots like Mark Noble >:D
-
maybe we should hound him for an ol skool specific issue
ive got issue 19 sat next to me now ( nov/oct 95 ) and i still read it more than much newer issues
-
I bought the new issue to raed the Brian Foster interview :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the scan Beard :daumenhoch:
I'm gonna have the editor/publisher of rideBMXmag after me... thats 2 months in a row I have scanned the most interesting articles and posted up here... :D :D
I have only just started buying ride and its a half decent mag... I like the format and some of the photography is outstanding.
-
Nice little article. I'm a fan of those Chocolate Dirt Bikes, as some of you know.
-
wooooo thanks beard :4_17_5:
-
You rule Dave, thanks for the scan :daumenhoch:

Yeah, that's me. Wow! That must've been early 90s as that's the only time I ever had a letter published in Ride. Crikey, how time flies.
The latest issue of Ride is one of the best of recent times. Good Foster interview/article and S&M Dirt Bike as the icon (personally, I liked the Holmes more, but I guess it was just a longer Dirt Bike).
-
yeah it seems to have got better, a goodun this month with Brian Foster :daumenhoch: / s&m etc, also jon dye seems to have got more interesting stuff into it, maybe they read our comments slating it!
-
Thanks for the scan! Nice little article.
My favortie frame for sure!

I'm sort of bummed because I had a chance to submit my Dirtbike for that article. Moeller hit me up about getting some quality photos but I've been out of town and didn't want to send in my crappy pictures of the frame hanging on the wall.
Oh well, it looks like I have to go track down that issue.

I bet your one looks much more "classic" that that one.
Its all great that its being used and all, but its got a right strange mix of parts on it.
-
"but its got a right strange mix of parts on it"
i was thinking that , i dont get the impression that most of them used parts like that back in the day
but i guess that was the ethos of the dirtbike , ie use whaever parts were available

I dont know how many mid 90s dirtbikes ever had a lightning bolt seat and new Graf tuffs? I dont usually care a hoot about the "right" parts on a build but if you are doing an article on a classic bike .... ?

I think that's just because it's Marks bike? He likes a Tuff I believe.....
Pretty much every one I ever saw had 48s on it though. And looked a lot like CheekyMonkeys one there :daumenhoch:
-
That dirtbike is nice and ..... dirty, for sure. The thing is, if RIDE had used pics of that one, we'd all be sat here complaining that its an Oversized (later) one. :-\
Some people are never happy ;D
-
Good point, well made ;D
-
Funnily enough i was asked to look into getting rid of one of these, how would they tell if its the original one , he thinks it is,it has peregrine 48s but what tells the early one, and if it is what would he be looking at for an early clean dirt bike?
being a mid school numpty i figured this was the place to ask
Rich

" grits teeth " no more than a £20

An early one will have a 1" headtube of course, plus the most significant difference will be in the diameter of the rear stays. Early stuff had 5/8" stays, later was 3/4" and more likely wore 990 mounts (though a lack of mounts doesn't mean it's early as they were still a $10 option 'til '94
You can see the rear stay difference here:
Earlier frames also had a plate brace behind the BB shell:

As for frame numbers, best ask Alex, he's got a fair few noted down.

Apologies for bumping this thread but after giving it a thought, I'm thinking it's time to sell my old Dirt Bike. I understand it's probably not worth much but sure someone else could make better use of it.
If possible can anyone give me a little background info on the frame? I was told it was one of the first 1 1/8 Dirt Bikes to have an a headset. After reading Alex' post though, I guess it's from a 2nd generation?
Anyway, I'm wondering what the whole bike is going to be worth? Open to offers and may stick it in the for sale section or on ebay. (mods - please do move or delete if this doesn't comply with your rules - apologies if this is the case)
Condition wise, the forks are slightly bent back, frame has small chips and a little rust in places, Chainring is bent so could do with replacing, Seat has a small tear.
What's on it?
- Peregrine Super Pro 48s on G-Sport hubs
- Redneck Stem
- Profile Cranks
- Profile Chainring
- Primo Seat
- Primo Stem
- S&M DX Style Pedals
- Slam Bars (I'm pretty sure) - have been cut down a little
- Dia-comp AD990 Rear
- Odyssey Bermuda Rear Tyre
- Primo V Monster Front Tyre
Pics below. I can take more pics if required, no problem.
Oh yeah, I know the front tyre is the wrong way round ;)

it'd stay as it is tbh, maybe some s&m pedals and seat, i've got the right stickers for it here etc, the rest would be elbow grease,
it deserves it :LolLolLolLol:
i'm just finishing one so i need something to fettle!
i nearly bought a light blue holmes the other day but it turned out to be an oversized dirtbike when the dude measured the tt,lol ;)
-
your finishing one and you havnt shown us pics ???

im sure its more white than blue , but im sure itl end up black ;)

i just want a brown dirtbike with a red redneck in my stable :LolLolLolLol:

thrasher style is my least favoured lol
i was toying with chololate brown but i cant afford luxuries like paint lol my t1 was a rover brown for a while though

when i eventually find a decent oversized holmes frame it will be the same army green that griffins bike is in that pic, best colour for an s&m imo :daumenhoch:

-

I dont think the NGs had a standard style headtube gusset. I think that was the "Classic Dirtbike". A face lifted dirtbike that was avalable at the same time as the NGs but wasnt as heavy.
-
i still have a holmes hanging up ,i think its a ng but can you id it when i get a pic.
-
cheers , the holmes i had had that gusset
ive only got one pic of it , i wish i still had the t1 pegs :(
-
I've put that Dirt Bike up :D http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230238843235

It was a great bike, for sure, but I cant see it getting £500. I hope Im wrong :daumenhoch:
-
I just put £500 as a ball park figure - I'm open to all reasonable best offers. No idea what it's worth tbh so will see what happens.

£500 is massively hopeful :LolLolLolLol:
best thing to do is re-list it as an auction for 99p and let the bidders decide :daumenhoch:
its without a doubt the way to get the best price for it :daumenhoch:
-

-
big moooler ,if it makes that money im selling my lot
-

With the wheels (although maybe not so much with those hubs), the cranks, and the frame/forks/stem/bar combo that is a bit of a better price. You might get more interest if you split it up tho.
-
£199 start price.
