:LolLolLolLol:
-
get on with it man ;D
bumps and bruises is what its all about.
-
Feeling for you Madd dogg, two weeks ago today i shoulder barged a set of whoops busting my collarbone, cracking a rib and dislocating my sternoclavicular joint in my chest. Severe bruising of the shoulder has made everything virtually impossible to do. I wasn't even going that fast, i just landed in the wrong place. i'm off sick from work with probably another couple of weeks to go yet. More x-rays Thursday coming.
I virtually gave up the minute i got back here but quite a few people have persuaded me to carry on. Hell, i'm 38, still young.
I'm taking my son to Bournemouth tomorrow for gate practise, sadly i wont be riding.
-
keep going, just takes awhile to heal, cracked my ribs twice in a year and thought about giving up, but just cant :idiot2:
-
SOZZ TO HEAR OF YA PRANG MATE
IM 41 THIS YEAR SO SERIOUSLY THINKIN OF CALLIN IT A DAY
BUT WHEN YOU GET SUPPORT OFF THE GUYS ON HEAR ,,MAKES YOU THINK???
NOT SURE WATB TO DO ME WIFE WOULD BE HAPPY AND I WOULD BE LETTIN SOMEONE DOWN,,BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY GOTTA THINK OF ME SELF
BIT OF A DILEMMA
R :-\
-
Don't give in cos your hurt Russ.
It happens, just take the time to heal and get back on your bike. A break from racing actually does you the world of good. I tend to take time out each winter and it makes me come back stronger every year. :daumenhoch:
-
dont give up ya big puff.
we all take a crash every now and then :daumenhoch:
-
It's all part and parcel of the game. Slamming and recovering from slamming is what seperates us from the 'normal people'........ ;D
Plus, the more you slam, the easier it gets in my opinion. If you're only having one every few months or this is your first hard hit then it does ring the old alarm bells a bit. You'll feel differently about it in a few days ;)
-
if ya not crashing then you sure aint learning .....simple when ya pull it it all makes sense and ya never think them retarded things like giving up, if ya can walk away with bruises thats cool, if ya cant walk away deal with it .......
-
oh yea change ya name cos maddog you aint. No offence just my way

i put my back out 4 or 5 years ago coming up short on the first jump of our set of downhill trails ( a gap of not much more than a bike length :-[ ) basicaly hung the rear wheel up at the top of the landing and somehow the bike fell infront of me , i landed in a sitting down position on the downslope
lying in a heap at the bottom unable to breath wasnt fun , nor was the week i couldnt sit down ( i think i mightave broken my coxix too )
i tentativly kept at it about a year after but the fun had gone so i sold the blackbike and gave away stuff i look back on and wish i still had
if im stood too long it aches , if im sat too long it aches . when i sleep i have to tuck my knees up otherwise the next day is painfull , its a feeling that never goes away :(, its hard to remember before the constant ache
sure the odd massage eases it in the short term and yoga helps a bit too but itl be there for life now
2 years ago i got another bike and it was fun again , im still weary of doing more damage but i doubt i could give up completely on something that has given such joy , soo many good times with friends are due to that little bike
im only nearly 24 and its hard coming to terms with an injury that will be with me for life but you just have to think of mat hoffman
i wouldnt change it for the world :daumenhoch:

Go swimming mate, it really helps. I did mine in July06, I can feel it in my back/leg/foot, the Dr. couldn't do anything other than offer pills, but he did say 'go swimming, it's what we do'
Russ, jack it all in mate. It will save you a small fortune in sellers fees on ebay :2funny:
-
oh yea change ya name cos maddog you aint. No offence just my way
I dont reckon Johnny Adair will mind Russ using his nickname
-
I thought about giving up in 92 when I left 4 teeth in the bombhole at Alvaston.
I thought about giving up in 97 when I bust my collarbone and scalped myself at Chesterfield.
I now know how hard it is to give up.
Stick with it Russ. You're tougher than most.

so exactly on what authority can you make that comment. coz you gotta see this lad ride, he has racked up the injuries through riding hard and pulled some suprising results and big airs on the track in the sessions ive been present and puts blokes half his age to shame, my riding would progress astonishingly if i had his balls (preferable not his balls when he split them open tho :daumenhoch:)

and yeah russ, pack it all in flog me dem wheels :daumenhoch:

On his own authority. Which, if you knew Pat (Arma) would be enough ;)
-
who is he then?
-
He's a very good friend of Superbikedans (maybe his best mate), he rode freestyle and raced in the early 80s. Been back riding about 4-5 years now.
Completely fearless in everything he does. Completely committed. Not afraid to call someone out on something like a username like madd dog who then goes on to talk about quitting after a slam.
Like he said, no offence - it's just his way.
-
MY USER NAME ,,,MADD DOGG
CAME ABOUT AFTER I STARTED BACK ON ME BMXES
A YOUNG LAD SAW ME RIDING UP HARTLEPOOL TRACK ,I WAS JUMPING EVERYTHING WITH NO FEAR AND COMMITED TO EVERY JUMP
HE CALLED ME AS MAD AS A DOG

Russ, your boy obviouly needs a clip round the ear and sent to bed with no tea. His Dad is superman and he needs to start realising that sooner rather than later. :LolLolLolLol: Even the best riders have their off days, perhaps we'll put this thread down as one of yours shall we mate. :daumenhoch:

madd dogg, don't take it to heart mate it's just pats way, he doesn't understand why anyone would want
to give up riding, his way is if you can roll around your riding. see, it's not what you can do but the fact your doing it,
he does my head in all the time to get me back riding but for me it's not going to happen :(
trust me you wont find a guy and an old skooler who loves this sport as much as pat, a true gent, great mate and a
true master in the art of praising you and making you do better :) i will honestly say this, i think a lot of my billys progression
is down to pat, he just has this way of making you feel the best then he get you to do more :daumenhoch:
-
when i saw my dad in hospital with a frame round hes whole leg with metal rods going from hes leg to the frame thing
i said how long till u getting back on your bike.
crashing is like the biggest part of riding and hurting ya self
it makes ya wanna get back and land the trick and then get it dialled
dont stop riding
as soon as your better
the first thing you have to do is go back to that jump and do it
-
well guys must admit i wont stop ridin as it a big part of me life
iitjust crosses ya mind at the time ,,but once the cobbwebs have gone you know ya gonna keep goin its in the blood

I'll give props to Pat too, a top bloke that's just ribbing so try not to take offence. If you knew him you'd understand ;)
Keep yer chin up Russ, it'll all look different in a few months :daumenhoch:

i've been in this predicament a few times over the years.
when i fractured my spine (hit off my mtb by a van not stopping at dual carriageway junction 10 years ago) i thought that was it for me. but bmx is such a big part of my life i fully recovered and got back to where i was before the accident.
my knee slam (360 whip gone wrong 7 years ago now) really messed up things physically & mentally but eventually got back but decided to leave ramps alone now as my knee didn't fully regain all its movement (cannot kneeslide) so stuck with flat as i've always ridden a bit of everything to stop riding getting boring.
i found i've taken a bit more of a backseat now i enjoy shooting photo's and filming, editing videos but it still keeps my foot in the door , i still enjoy a ride that much more now that i'm not doing it everyday. we all say we may quit at times but even just going for a roll around the local sk8park ,shooting pics etc still leaves the door open to have some fun and escape the pressure of real life for a few hours.
as long as you've got a bike left the door is always open to have a blast from time to time and have some fun. and thats what its all about.
-
Its hard russ, my doc diagnosed me with having arthritis in my ankle and now my lower back im in agony all day, and take so many strong painkillers and now ive got morphine that im only aloud so much a week ;) yeah like the whole lot :LolLolLolLol: but ive pondered this one many times, but i always keep trying, all my problems were caused by bad injuries in bmx, but i would never change it, keep going its the best way, oh and ill be there at mk racing at the back in pain ;)
