skyways defo shouldnt be on a dirt bike!!!! :2gunsfiring_v1:

Well perhaps one on the front for that good ol' Dirt Bros look?
-
Good old Eddie Roman rode 2 tuffs on his dirtbike (see the clip I posted in the Video section).
Gossa used a pair of Graf Tuffs on his Mad Dog (See pics somewhere in the Mid section).
But not the new, lookey-likey Graffs! Not on a "Classic bike" from the early 90s.

the other way around it was for me , skyways was big in the whole freestyle world on the 80's not wany pro's raced on them , unless sponsword by skyway like paterson, they wasnt that strong, i broke 3 backs and 2 fronts bitd, and my mate broke loads, z rims lasted me abit longer, ;)

Normals are crap for everything other than looking good. They flex, they are weak, and they aint light.
Graphites are better than normals, they weigh less than normals ..... but they still flex (slightly less) and they still brake. They just cost more!

I think that's true, but for some reason certain bike just look wrong without them. I hate seeing TAs with alloys (or worse still Z-Rims) even though I know that the alloys would definitely be better for racing, similarly some bikes just look wrong with Tuffs (JMC DY with tuffs?). Can't comment on their suitability for DirtBikes as I kind of missed the midschool era, but if it works for you then I'd say go with it.
For what it's worth, my New School racer has Graffs (the much maligned new ones) on it - just looks right that way.

Tuffs were good enough for Mad Dog.

It's like i've said before, in those early days when Chris had S&M's made all over the place (GT, Revcore, B&E), the stuff got tweaked every production run, even Chris can't remember half of the stuff he did! That dirtbike is about a 1989/1990 model I think.

They're S&M
Clive, Ive never seen a set of S&M forks with a semi leading axle & rounded drop outs that wrap under the legs. Im not at all saying they aint S&M forks, just that I have never seen a set like that. (btw, I know that much later 1 1/8th pitchforks had rounded, wrap under drop outs)
I thought the first ones ("mad dog" ones) had the very triangle drop outs with the holes above the wheel slot, Then the "S&M Forks" that had a same shape drop out to pitchforks.
Like you say, there were so many changes made in the early days it would be close to imposible to keep up with all of them.
-
Alex, I can't think of why I would've changed the forks, plus they are double dropout jobs which hardly anyone was doing then, maybe it's a CW/Revcore built one, the dropouts do look very similar to Revcore ones.......like we've said, we'll never know.....however these are very different to the style you mentioned off of my Mad Dog with the longer leg and triangular dropout shape.
Who knows eh?
