Waxin and Cupid Stunt have established that DX's cannot be stripped by caustic soda. Thus the finish is not annodising, similar too a SR crank and ring I tried to strip once. When they r NOS the pins are the same coulour as the pedals . So my friends as it looks like anno and is as thin as anno. So whats the finish? A different type of electro plating? Sprayed? Seen them finished in glass paint which is similar, wonder if its glass paint baked on? ::)

It looks like a sprayed on clear coat , i think some kind of coloured laquer ,cellulose or something

prob an acrylic laquer...it strips with paint stripper, so its not anno.
dont caustic dx's, the pins will end up falling out....believe me

the one on the left was painted with the glass paint whilst the other is still raw out of the caustic bath. interesting to see the amount of flaws in the casting compared to some brute stems which were real easy to polish compared to the Dx cranks.
