i went with my girlfriend at the time to watch.
cant rememmber if it was a champs or what.
did i dream it happening??
craig cambell,mason smith etc..
-
There were loads of comps at the Sobell so you probably did see something!
-
That would be Andy Ruffell's Holeshot competition. Ran from 84 until about 87 I think.
-
was it not the 1st national champs or something??
-
Didn't they have any UKBFA comps there Trev?
-
It would have been Holeshot I imagine...

Not any UKBFA Nationals as such. Although Holeshot was sanctioned by UKBFA (and UKBMX before), it didn't give you any points towards any National rankings.
It was more of an end of year show piece hosted by Andy Ruffell. Some kinda looked at it as the National championships, but it wasn't really. Just in the same way King of the Skateparks, Kelloggs & BMX Beat didn't go towards your National ranking.
However, in 1985, the Holeshot competition was the first UKBFA event to host a Pro class which I believe Pepi & Craig shared the title.

think it was picketts lock where strong look his bike apart, casey from harrow got thrown out after he chucked his bike at him.
-
Picketts Lock! I remember that. They had a wheelie contest which Craig Strong won with something like over an hour on his 'specialised' bike - banana seat, fixed wheel etc which I always thought was cheating. Had to ride a burner :-[ with my GT parts on it as my GT frame had just cracked.
-
I rode that comp at Picketts Lock. Came nowhere.....
I also recall a bloke entering the wheelie comp on a Kuwi and doing really well. My memory of Kuwis is that they weren't the easiest bike to wheelie for some reason. Anyhoo, he impressed me far more than Strong on that clown bike ::)
